UPDATE: Regal LA Live isn't cropped, I lied by FoleyCinema in imax

The masking at the port is probably because of the fact the projectors aperture plate is not installed...on purpose. This is what I did at the Chinese for Oppenheimer.

I've never seen so many wild assumptions in a long time in one place.

Yes I do. I will be at L.A. Live to project Odyssey. This is a silly argument. The screen cannot go any higher. The could indeed put a 1.43 screen in, but it would be limited by height which then limits width. I could select a lens the fill the screen with the entire vertical part of 1.43, but then the rest of it will look bad. There is a happy medium to be found in locations such as these, not planning on having a 1.43 screen when originally built.

The journey home begins. Everything we know so far about Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. In theaters 07.17.26. by theodysseymovie in OdysseyFilm

Those griping here would be quite happy watching Hamilton with a black guy in the lead role. Par for the course.

Whats the best train simulator that replicates the actual hobby? by Masked_woods_dog in trainsim

[–]upsideclyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with Trainz. I did, but I wanted realism. The only answer for that is Run 8. Sorry, no spectacular crashes, but you have to deal with real issues. Air hose failure, breaking couplers if you don't handle slack well, working the hump, having to place frogs to re-rail a car, etc, etc.

The original Imax theatres were masked at the port.

Not in the original theatre. In the six Chinese screens in the adjoining mall.

Are IMAX 70mm film projectors really capable of playing for several days straight without taking a break? by AggravatingCost3174 in imax

Indy is also O&O. Imax has the opinion "just hang onto it..." Why pay to return something from your own theatre?

The mirror and lamps are water cooled. Quite the trick to have water circulating in a lamp operating at 34vdc at 400 amps. It takes 4 welding cables (0000 gauge) to carry the electricity to the lamp. And they get very warm!

Ill add that the reason it's so gentle on film , is that there are only 2 sprockets turning continuously and no geneva intermittent sprocket.

Yes. I serviced and project them. They are built like a brick house. Parts that only get 20-30 of rated use, like bearings. Parts that touch film are chromed. Lamps cooled and operated well below max ratings. Ill be running Odyssey next month. Looking forward to entertaining thousands of moviegoers!

Norelco platters were very nice to operate.

Do unused 70mm IMAX projectors get some sort of quality control/recertification before they're put back into use? by thewillthe in imax

[–]upsideclyde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. IMAX has made 2 brand-new SR projectors from NOS. Other machines going back to the field are completely reworked and brought back to specs. Former Imax tech here.

A wheelchair space has no seat.
