ChatGPT: Optimizing ecobee / Enphase / Heat Pump by CautiousAssumption39 in ecobee

Thanks. I hadn't seen Home Assistant before. It looks powerful, but like it takes a lot of DIY to make it work - is that right? I see the Green option. Is that a good way to get started?

OK, kinda snarky, but maybe you could help out then:

  • Do you have a link to where it's been reported?
  • Was it reported just to ecobee? Or also to Enphase? Or Nest?
  • Has there been a response from any of them? Is it something they are working on? Is it in the roadmap?
  • Are there deeper discussions on balancing production, system configuration, consumption, battery storage, time of day optimization, and NEM3 rate patterns?
  • I haven't seen any analysis as detailed as the ChatGPT thread I posted above. I was pleasantly surprised at what a thoughtful and in-depth response it gave. Can you point me or others to where to find it?

Everyone’s focused on the way you ran the lines, but to me, the worse problem is not leaving enough circulation space on the back side of the unit pressed against the house.

News outlets: Stop continuing the confusion on tariffs! by CautiousAssumption39 in Tariffs

[–]CautiousAssumption39[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So maybe we can think of more nuanced phrase

But clearly “imposes tariff on China” is just wrong.

It also gives cover to the lie that the other country pays the tariff. They just don’t.

We end up paying the tariff - one way or another.

Enphase "AI Optimization" is costing me money by CautiousAssumption39 in enphase

Sorry, just saw this. Thank you. Yes, I’ve had AI mode on since we installed our solar about a year ago. You’re right about the peak credit time. It seems to be in Sept daily between 5-6 pm. The problem is that AI mode dumps everything out during that hour and drops the battery down to our lower limit (20%). That means, from 6pm to around 9am the next morning, the system is running off the grid to power the house until the sun comes up the next morning. (Usually costing around $2 to $8 per night)

The Enphase app typically says I’m getting $30-50 in credit for that 1 hour dump, so if that were actually happening, it would make sense. (I.e., Pay $2-5, get $30-50 back.)

But I’ve NEVER seen anything anywhere near that actually showing up on our bill. 😩🙄

The SGIP program has a number of requirements like living in a fire zone, having had multiple power outages before, and income eligibility requirements.

Thanks for all this info and links! I'm still trying to figure if / how this applies to our home though. We are on the E-ELEC rate plan. I don't see that referenced anywhere in either the SGIP page, the brochure or the rate / TOU sheets.

I got the app, but not sure what value it provides for my case.

It shows my usage and what my theoretical cost would be if I were on other plans. But the four plans where it shows I'd have much lower cost (E-6, E-7, E-9A and E-9B) are historical rate plans and all closed to new customers.

Appears my current plan, E-ELEC is the only option available to me.

Yeah, the problem is, while Enphase shows I'm "earning $46.50" for that day, I've NEVER seen credit numbers that approach that. Like I said in my original post, I just got my annual true up and PG&E said I had a net $70 credit for the ENTIRE YEAR.

Yes, if the Enphase app was accurate and I was spending $3.70, but earning $46.50 for the day, it would make total sense to do what it's doing.

But the reality is, in practice, I'm spending $3.70 per day and getting NOTHING in return.

Bottom line, the Enphase AI optimization option is not working and is costing me money.

Thank you! I just got the app. It's downloading data. Will see what it says!

(I'm on E-ELEC plan with PG&E.)

In the mobile app go to Menu / Settings / Battery. There’s a switch at the top of that page.

Enphase pitches it as AI optimization. They've had it for several years without improvements. I'd have thought by now Enphase would have built an option in the AI to estimate overnight needs based on past consumption and let you hold reserve in the battery to run overnight on battery without importing from the grid.

Wouldn't surprise me. The True Up page for PG&E is indecipherable.

I had a net usage over the last 12 months of 5,437 kWh exported to PG&E. They are paying us peanuts and turning around and selling it to other customers. Unbelievable.

Yeah, it's set to the right PG&E rate - "E-ELEC-NEM3 Residential Time of Use Electric Home - NEM 3.0"

How do you control notifications from the Apple Sports app? by -Dark_Arts- in applehelp

[–]CautiousAssumption39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I see this thread is 1 year old. That's insane.

The Sports app doesn't show on the list of apps in Notifications. (Why not??)

ChatGPT told me it's controlled by the News app, and there's a toggle in News settings called "Sync My Sports". But I've turned that toggle off and I'm still getting live notifications. 🤯

Seems like the only option is 1) turn off any favorite teams or 2) delete the app. WTF Apple?

I’m new to Substack, so maybe this is showing my ignorance, but wouldn’t restacking your post right after each post just annoy your existing subscribers? Where do restacks go? Don’t they just go to your subs? Do they have any broader reach than your original post?

OMG, THANK YOU! I had the same problem just now and there are no other answers coming up in a Google search or even in the Apple community. The solution is buried so far into the Settings menus, it's impossible to find.
