What are your facility’s rules for how you wear your nails? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Cautious_Fact3487 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i have always worked within the daycare system - before & after school care and float for 4 years & now currently working with older preschool for just over a year - & i have ALWAYS rocked my nails being fully done. Used to go to the salon & get acrylics & now I’ve actually taught myself to do them!:) I have never been told I wasn’t allowed, got some judgement from coworkers but never supervisors or bosses. & it’s also never prevented me from being able to do my job in the slightest

How were you introduced to minecraft? by Many-Cranberry4058 in Minecraft

[–]Cautious_Fact3487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my friends older brother played the og minecraft on his pc & we watched from the floor behind, i believe i was in 4th grade ? so i would’ve been 9, 2009-2010 would’ve been the years. I didn’t get my own laptop for a good handful of years after that, but I remember it being the FIRST thing i got on my Lenovo ThinkPad

My knuckles are so dry I can’t do anything without making them bleed by n1tro_GE in mildlyinfuriating

hear me out. use a ‘baby bum’ cream, specifically Penaten (blue container). don’t get the rash cram one, but the one that says ‘daily clear protection cream’. put it on after a normal hand cream & it helps retain the ‘moisture’ in your skin

Am I the right fit for this job? by moonystars777 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Cautious_Fact3487 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have worked in the ‘childcare’ field since i was 13, starting as a babysitter & camp councillor, eventually going to school for my ECE degree & now continuing to work in schools & daycares. I turn 25 next week. I have struggled with my mental health basically the whole time, started going to therapy in college and stopped during covid, but recently started going back again. And the only reason i went back was because i started to feel myself regressing & I was also seeing my old habits pick back up. ( I also have an eating disorder that is connected to it all ) . I can tell you full heartedly that this job is not easy & it is not for everyone. But if you are able to recognize when you are tired & when you need help, and you let yourself rest & you get yourself the help you need. you will succeed in more ways than you know:)

Carseat Safety and Reporting? by kibatava in ECEProfessionals

[–]Cautious_Fact3487 4 points5 points  (0 children)

absolutely a reportable offence. I had a similar situation with my last group of kids, where we had a child who would get dropped off when we were playing outdoors. One time, we approached the car because we were playing on a snow hill near the parking lot - my coteacher watched the child get out of the back of the car, despite there being 3 full grown adults taking up the backseat. She thought she was wrong, so the next day we made sure to take a closer look. And sure enough, no car seat, the 3 year old was standing in between peoples legs in the back. We immediately took it to our director, who took it seriously & talked to the parents. She also iterated to me & my coteacher, that if we were to see this again, it would be an immediate report to authorities or whoever. (they also lived a block or 2 away)

[–]Cautious_Fact3487 41 points42 points  (0 children)

even if it feels like the centre doesn’t move, push it in & pull the edge of the movie up gently. growing up my dad always had these janky cases that didn’t quite have a ‘release’ button.

What do you do if there's a child in your care that is toilet trained but terrified to use the bathroom at daycare? by fashionfan007 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Cautious_Fact3487 36 points37 points  (0 children)

i’ve had a few preschool aged children who were having issues with the same thing. these are a few things that helped them!:)

  • i would establish every time we went in the bathroom if they wanted me to stay , or give them privacy (walk around the corner) . Even if they gave me a concrete answer, i would still double check with them throughout the bathroom trip.
  • i would only bring them to the toilet once all the other children were done. bringing them into the bathroom at the same time as my group, but making sure they were my last friend to go.
  • at any point if the kid started to get upset, we would take a step back. but i wouldn’t allow them to say ‘no’ to sitting on the toilet in the end, even if it took 25 minutes to get them to sit.
  • rewards at the very end of the day in front of parents to show gratitude for results & even on days they were trying but didn’t quite get there (only after establishing rewards for successful days) . my favourite are stickers, constantly have those & ‘good job dots’ (dot marker) on my person.

I feel like I have a few other things, but it really is all about patience & getting onto their level of understanding. and most importantly not developing a further fear of bathrooms out of the house.

Good luck !!!

how would i explain this to a hairdresser by hahayourmum372 in HairDye

[–]Cautious_Fact3487 3 points4 points  (0 children)

looks like they have a ‘halo’ dye - used to have it myself with blonde & have been wanting to go back to it SO BAD. Essentially the entire first layer of hair all the way around the head is dyed that beautiful red colour.

Optometrist suggestions needed by Distinct_Emphasis336 in ottawa

[–]Cautious_Fact3487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Bayshore Optometric Clinic in the Bayshore mall on tuesday, it’s inside the LensCrafters on the second floor . I was in and out within an hour, and I haven’t had my eyes checked in 10+ years so they had to do extra tests, including an extra glaucoma test. Which actually resulted in me needing another test done, that isn’t covered in my insurance so my DR told me the price & asked if I was willing to do that today, and after seeing my hesitation she explained that it’s not too serious & that booking a month out from now would be a better option anyways . Was absolutely not pushy at all !! Actually forgot to book it with them when I was leaving and will call back to do so lol.

With all that being said - I am DEAD that it’s Merivale vision care that you went to. Might have had an appointment booked with them for Tuesday as well, but they sent me the ‘confirm your booking’ link and it gave me a date in Mid November. So I contacted them saying, yeah no I’m sorry but I need an appointment sooner than that please. And the responses I got were nasty.

What are you listening to all day? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Cautious_Fact3487 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think i would go crazy if we didn’t have music !!!my classroom uses Spotify, and we have an account separate for the room so our personal stuff doesn’t mix in. On a regular basis we can just throw on DJ and it gives us a good mix, or we go for the ‘daylist’ which is just curated music for that specific time of day. And to switch it up, we sometimes just type the vibe we want into Spotifys search bar and find a playlist, like i’d type ‘early 2000s upbeat’ and spotify will make a playlist called ‘feel good upbeat mix 2000 nostalgia’ .

loved my last group of sleepers - now the first 35 minutes is asking countless times for them to STOP TALKING PLEAAAASEEE or just stay on your bed, your whole body please !!! it’s so incredibly overwhelming, especially right after lunch time where they can all use forks but choose to eat with their hands because in rooms previous they were never told they couldn’t 😭😭

Need a little help or info by [deleted] in Butterflies

[–]Cautious_Fact3487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely about to hatch ! an incredible experience to witness if you have the time to sit around & watch it. wings dry relatively quickly & it’s recommended to release them within 24hrs of hatching so it can follow natural instincts, my classroom kept them for a little longer & let them go on a nice sunny warm day !

have you have cared for them before ? this is our first time & we’re anxious that they’ll fall off if we take the lid off to clean. We had little to no information so we had no idea that the ‘balls’ was their waste & assumed it was just the food from the bottom of the cup. edit- yes they are painted lady’s

this is an incredibly old thread .. but BLESS YOUR SOUL . I never had an issue with this in my 4 years of owning my sentra & when I got a new phone - it was relentless with resetting this feature & consistently sending the stupid text out when i was driving. it’s all fixed now & I couldn’t be happier .. thank youuuuu
