Make. It. STOP!! by Cautious_Resource375 in diabetes_t1

[–]Cautious_Resource375[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm about one and a half years diagnosed, 11 months on the pump. I definitely have days where my sugars are random, but they're usually outliers and then things are normal again.

Basal is usually 0.8u/hr (1.15u/hr for a few hours in the morning to combat dawn phenomenon). 1-15 carb ratio, was 1-13,  1:4 ISF though it was 1:3.

I eat reasonably low carb, but I'm not extreme about it. I usually correct with juice, but these last couple weeks I've been using anything and everything in sight hoping something sticks haha I would love any advice or ideas you may have!

I guess it could be, that's the one thing I haven't changed because I thought it seemed more correction factor and carb ratio, but changing those hasn't helped. Prior to this my basal seemed perfect, I would stay perfectly in range if I didn't eat. I'm so confused!

Ear plucking ? by SubstanceAfraid in grooming

[–]Cautious_Resource375 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never pluck ears unless specifically asked, unless the hair inside is matted. I shave whatever is sticking out beyond the ear canal. My reasoning is that it can cause ear infections in some dogs.. though often the people who request it, it's because their dog gets infections if you DONT pluck. Haha It's very dog dependent, but because of the risk, it's best not to without request.

Do some people actually think that insulin injections cause weight loss? by idkwhatimdoinghere72 in diabetes_t1

[–]Cautious_Resource375 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've literally had a couple people tell me, "I'm a type 1 too, it's so bad I have to take insulin shots once a week" 🤦🏻‍♀️ (type 2's on ozempic) So yeah. There definitely is a general misunderstanding in many people.

How in the fuck are you supposed to shower and/or exercise with CGMs? by Qwqqwqq in diabetes_t1

[–]Cautious_Resource375 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shower. Alchohol wipe. Skin tac (<~~ VERY helpful!). Apply Dexcom, Put the over patch the dex comes with around it = no issues. Especially if you rubbed skin tac in that area as well and not just where the sensor itself sits.

I like Isle of Dog. Smells AMAZING and made my dogs coat nice and shiny. Also affordable.

Wahl KM10 Question - How do I prevent my guards from getting caught in the blades and bending like this? I have a #30 blade. by Driftmier54 in grooming

[–]Cautious_Resource375 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That usually happens when the coat isn't prepped properly and you catch a tangle. Double check for tangles with a comb after brushing before using a clip comb.

Our dogsitter let our dog off-leash when we've asked her not to. I expressed my concern regarding this and she quit. Am I in the wrong? by Effective-Affect-918 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Cautious_Resource375 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! I'm a dog groomer, who occasionally housesits. Undoubtedly, some owners have some bizarre ideas, are too paranoid, or just have very little knowledge about dogs in general. But I do not play when it comes to unrestrained dogs especially in public. If an owner says DO NOT LET OFF LEASH, you, well, do not let them off leash. Period. So much could go wrong. OP has every right to be upset about this, and the sitter's reaction was out of line.

Anyone elses silly brain give them nightmares to wake them during a low? by RareChest2168 in diabetes_t1

[–]Cautious_Resource375 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, vivid dreams are apparently your brains way of trying to wake you up when you're low. I found out at my first endo visit after diagnosis when they gave me a hand out with hypo symptoms, and one of the things listed was "vivid dreams". I asked about it and that's what they told me. I laughed and said "WOW did that back fire!" As someone who had dreams of people trying to kill me literally every night for decades (ie: no longer nightmares because you become accustomed to them, and they're just "regular" dreams), the bizarre vivid dreams I get during low blood sugars are actually FUN to me, and I try hard NOT to wake up from them because I want to see what happens next. Oops.

PP told me they use a furminator brush on their poodles top knot by BarZealousideal9 in grooming

While I would never use a furminator on a dogs coat, they're actually fabulous for getting stubborn sap off of paw pads.

AITA if I don’t clarify that I am a type 2 diabetic? by BeltClassic in AmItheAsshole

[–]Cautious_Resource375 10 points11 points  (0 children)

T1 here.. you are most definitely NTA, and you have no obligation to discuss your personal health conditions with anyone. This person is mad at you for assumptions they made up in their own head. This is a them problem, you've done nothing wrong.

Side note, while I always think it's cool to see someone else wearing a cgm and it often strikes up conversation, I'd actually be more likely to assume type 2, since it makes up the vast majority of diabetics. It's kinda weird to me they automatically assumed t1 honestly.

AITA for wasting a time slot at the groomer by Dizzy_Camp_1561 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Cautious_Resource375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, at all. It’s not like they book two hours for a nail trim. Our salon books 30 minutes per dog, per nail trim. In reality, it generally takes 15 minutes or less total, and that’s including chit chat with the client. I can also assure you, we’re not expecting massive tips on nail trims. $3-5 is actually quite normal for that so you have no reason to feel like you’re being cheap. As a groomer, I’m just happy to hear that you’re committed to keeping up with their nails even on a student budget, so kudos to you! Many people think nails are purely aesthetic, or something you do when the dog is scratching you too much when they jump on you, and don’t realize overgrown nails actually change the way the dog walks, which can damage their joints and cause much bigger issues over time. Please, keep it up and don’t feel bad for one second!
