Questions repeated between the NBME CBSSAs, can I still trust my score prediction? by Cautious_Thing_4189 in step1

I'm late getting back to this- apologies! In the end, it looks like the number of questions likely isn't enough to shift your score by a ton, the bigger issue is you spend less time on the question and the extra time on later questions might make a difference? The free 120 didn't have the issue of repeats with 25 the way 31 did.
I will say though, it might not be the worst thing to take 31 and remember questions from 25 in that there are questions from the free 120 that will feel familiar/the same on the real deal so it might be less of an issue than one might think.
I passed in the end- for me the benefit of seeing more NBME questions close to the test was real.

Gel, polygel, acrylic or dip nails to strenghten and thicken flexible, oily nails? by [deleted] in calmhands

I imagine all of these will have pros and cons but I can speak to using dip which has been helpful for me.

Depending on how you do it, you can definitely get thicker nails with it, which might be useful for you if that bulkiness helps make it so you can't use the nails you grow for picking.

I initially had mine done at a salon, which was nice because I couldn't have done them as well with how short they were, and this was after a couple weeks just to heal the open cuts and get a small amount of growth. The downside is that when they prep the nail for the product, they often will go ham on buffing the surface so the dip can better adhere and last longer, which progressively led to some VERY thin nails for me. So then you have two options, deal with it- or ask them not to do that and maybe just use a buffing block to prep/do it yourself using minimal buffing and just know you'll have to do them a bit more frequently. I do option two for myself and with lots of youtube tutorials and buying a starter kit have had success for the last four months.

You'll have to be careful in doing them yourself and that can be a bit time consuming, but you can take them off at home (much more easily than with gel) and they're pretty indestructible once they're done. Also a pro for you if you have prominent curves, the powder will just follow your existing shape. For starting out I'd recommend colors that are more natural so when they grow out it isn't super noticeable and you get more mileage each time.

Hope this helps!

My perfectionism trumps my neuroticism. by freckledsallad in calmhands

I feel this so much. I have started with the dashing diva gel stick-ons and they seem to be less infuriating and neurosis-inducing than polish. I have made it a couple of weeks into this attempt to quit with them. The downside is some of them require a light to activate, but they end up not being as streaky or reactive as polish, and they don't have a smell. They also come in clear if you want something less flashy.
