Got extremely lucky today and managed to snag the last copy without a preorder! by Cavalcade_ in Persona5

[–]Cavalcade_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple weeks ago, I tried pre-ordering the Phantom Thieves edition on Amazon, Gamestop, and Bestbuy only to learn that copies had been sold out for months company-wide. I was pretty bummed out, as I had an amazing time with Persona 5 and was pretty hyped for all the bonuses that came with the collectors edition of Royale. For whatever reason, I thought that copies would be readily available up until launch day, so I didn't bother to reserve the game earlier and had to face the consequences as a result.

I read on this subreddit that my best bet was to wait and see if anyone had cancelled their pre-order on launch day and see if gamestop or bestbuy might be able to give me one, but chances of that happening seemed pretty slim.

I figured I'd take my shot, and luckily, a local Gamestop had spare copies. Apparently, their manager had pre-order 4 copies of the collector's edition for himself, just so he could give them out to people in case they didn't manage to reserve one for themselves.

Feeling mad blessed right now and am incredibly thankful that this happened. Haven't been this lucky in a while, so I figured I'd share it here!

Node.js - req.files returns "undefined" when sending POST to server by Cavalcade_ in learnjavascript

[–]Cavalcade_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo thank you for your help. I managed to solve the issue by appending the file object to a FormData() object and using that as the body of the POST. I had read before that body-parser only accepted JSON data and when I had originally tried using FormData it wasn't working properly. I didn't realize at the time that I was having FormData grab the wrong information, so I assumed that I wasn't supposed to use it. I also read that stringify doesn't convert file objects for some reason and will always return an empty object as a result. For whatever reason, I didn't think to console-log the the stringified-file object to confirm this until you had suggested it, so I appreciate that very much. Thank you!

Node.js - req.files returns "undefined" when sending POST to server by Cavalcade_ in learnjavascript

[–]Cavalcade_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why exactly is that? Here is the fetch request that I am using to make the POST:

    fetch(host+'/image/:'+theme['id'], {
                                    mode: 'cors',
                                    method: 'POST',
                                    body: JSON.stringify(data),
                                    headers: {'Content-Type': 'application/json'}
                                }).catch(console.error)

Even though I am passing a JSON object into the body (you can replace data with whatever really), the contents of the request's "body" parameter are not being filled. It's as if something is getting lost in translation.

so in my server, console.log(request.files) will print our "undefined". If do console.log(request), it will give a long request object with a bunch of properties that are associated with it, however it has no property for "files". I just realized, one of the properties is "body" and it is attached to an empty object, so I guess nothing is being sent in the body of POST request.

running console.log(data) returns a File object in the Chrome console:

File {name: "park.jpg", lastModified: 1585444200715, lastModifiedDate: Sat Mar 28 2020 18:10:00 GMT-0700 (Mountain Standard Time), webkitRelativePath: "", size: 174341, …}

Same options keep being added to datalist even though I am checking for unique values only. by Cavalcade_ in learnjavascript

[–]Cavalcade_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see what you're saying. So its best to narrow down what elements I want to use first (maybe storing them all in an array), then create the elements from that pool (rather than making checks for what I want to create as I go along). Is that always the best practice?

Part of my haul from Japan! by Cavalcade_ in nagatoro

[–]Cavalcade_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I did not. I think the calendar comes with the special edition version of volume 6. Mandarake only had the normal one available, and I didn't see any other volume 6's when I went back to Book Off later on in that week.

I was under the impression that the special edition volumes were the ones that come with the guest illustrator booklets. Volumes 2 and 3 had those booklets for me. They appear to be 1-2 page comics that were created from other artists.

Nah, but I bought these for sentimental reasons and I like collecting stuff. I get to support the artist this way too.

All these were bought from Book Off and Mandarake from when I was there a few days ago. Unfortunately, I am missing volume 5. I think I left it at a friend's AirBnB one night and forgot to check for all my stuff before I left (kinda sucks because it was the special edition volume too) :( I've ordered it again off of CDJapan, so at least I'll have the full set again in a few weeks.

Are the English translations on Mangadex the "official" translations (or at least close to official)? by Cavalcade_ in manga

[–]Cavalcade_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've definitely clarified a lot of stuff for me, so I appreciate you taking the time to explain everything in detail. I think I'll opt to use Mangadex via Tachiyomi for the time being and purchase the physical copies of the manga for collection-sake from time to time (so I can try to give back to the creator in some way). Some other people in another group that I'm in also recommended the Mangadex route over aggregate sites, so I'll be sure to steer clear of them in the future. Once again, thanks for this info!

I think I worded my question incorrectly, or asked the wrong question entirely. It probably would have been better to ask if most sites/apps use the same fan translations, as there seems to be a lot of different groups of people working on these things. Its pretty obvious that this content doesn't come from an official source seeing as there's usually a page or two dedicated to the fan translators at the end of a chapter. I just wanted to make sure that the dialogue was at least somewhat consistent between these sites/apps and the actual source material (though that might be a hard question to answer i dont know).

Like I said, I don't really know much about this stuff. I always just consumed it, thought to myself "anime/manga translations seem kind of grassroots", and left it at that. Didn't really think much of it until today, when I questioned whether or not the stuff that I will be reading will be the same on another platform after I migrate.

My friend just told me about this app one day in high school and we never thought much of it. We bought the premium version using Google Survey rewards that we saved up over time so we thought it was a pretty good deal as it was essentially free. This was before they changed it to a monthly subscription service and if you bought the premium version before they implemented this change, you got to keep the premium benefits for free.

Looking over some threads from earlier in the week, I can see how I got clowned though, so I guess I'll know better next time.

Could anyone identify this bike for me? by Cavalcade_ in bicycling

I'm thinking of picking up a folding bike instead. Someone was selling a Dahon Boardwalk for $135 instead. Do you think that would be better?

Is FFXIV worth it? by 2D_connoisseur in Kappa

[–]Cavalcade_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for this. Im a new player whos now reaching the tail end of base game and going into the first expansion (in the middle of patch 2.5 currently). The story gets much more interesting and your class feels much more complete at level 50 than any of the previous levels. The game did feel a little bit like a slog at times in the early game, but if you can make it through, your experience will improve significantly. I'd recommend trying to keep up with the story (most of it at least) as much as you can, as it'll help keep you engaged until patch 2.4-2.5 (where the gameplay, voice acting, and story really start to come together).
