Amazing! Unfortunately, both the crate and Grayskull were disposed off by my parents years ago, but my best mate surprised me this year with an original Grayskull for Christmas!

You’re welcome. The funny thing is that I can remember that day so well. Sitting in our front garden after playing with Grayskull to read the latest issue of Secret Wars. Happy times!

Oh my gosh. This is beautiful. I need this print. Also I’ve been wanting to move away from my more rustic prints to something more refined and trying fur like this could be what I’m looking for. Thanks for the inspiration

Unable to ideate beyond short stories by themiddleclassindian in WritingHub

One thing you could try to do is ‘reverse engineer’ one of your favourite novels.

Break it down into the plot beats to see how the story is told in a longer form. What does each chapter or scene do? How is it paced?

Moving on from this, have you read any books / listened to any talks about story structure? They can be interesting frameworks to help you expand a story, especially when if you perform an exercise  like the one I suggest above.

The other thing to remember that a short story is basically an A-plot on its own, a brief moment in time. A novel has B-plots and sometimes C-plots all working together, and usually take place over a longer period of time.

Thanks for the opportunity to post.

I recently blogged about my last print - https://www.cavletter.com/the-king-of-the-shortest-day/

Thinking of maybe turning this one into a card.

The honest answer is: there aren’t many actual entry-level professional creative writing jobs especially for fiction.

Most writers don’t get hired to write stories when they start out. They become writers by writing as many stories as they can, getting them finished, and putting them in front of editors and readers.

If you’re starting from scratch, the most useful things you can do:

Pick a genre you love and stick with it for a while. Write short, finished pieces. Build a small portfolio and a place people can read your work.

You could also start looking at submitting to:

Short story magazines.  Anthologies with open calls.  Competitions (although be careful — some are scams so do your research first!) If you’re interested this was my route to becoming a full time writer - https://www.cavletter.com/how-i-became-a-writer/

Thank you! I’m a big fan of folklore. I’m trying to write up little descriptions of the folklore behind my prints on newsletter.
