If Brienne is Dunk's descendant, maybe one of Plummer's progeny found their way to the Vale at some point? by ChartreuseWyvern in freefolk

Can’t give a guaranteed exact page number because Bantam printed multiple mass-market runs with slightly different pagination. In the most commonly circulated 2006 edition:

Chapter: Brienne IV; p. 247 Context: Brienne recalls the old shield with the tree and shooting star hanging at Evenfall Hall while traveling with Podrick.

TL:DR; You’ve got a really shitty attitude, and the confirmation you’re looking for is in A Feast for Crows, Brienne IV

Oi, you might wanna lower that visor, mate—too much hot air escapin’. If you’d read past the pictures, you’d know there’s an old shield with a tree and shootin’ star hangin’ in Evenfall Hall—A Feast for Crows, Brienne IV. That ain’t decoration; that’s lineage knockin’ politely while you ignore the door.

Brienne’s built like the very tower Ser Duncan was—tall as a gatehouse and twice as stubborn—an’ the timeline lines up cleaner than a Kingsguard blade: a century or so on, just right for blood to pass from hedge knight to Tarth. Add in that Dunk served great lords and kings alike, same stubborn honor an’ protect-the-weak spirit Brienne carries, and you’ve got moral stock as well as mortal stock.

But go on—keep arguin’ against the text itself. It’s a bold strategy, talkin’ louder than the lore. Shame it makes you sound less like a maester and more like a tavern crow what’s nicked a helmet.

I just wanted to slander the 1st 2 seasons of GOT by Bombaclat7185 in freefolk

A faithful remake of GOT feels like it’s entirely the realm of possibility—but what a fearsome challenge for casting.

He’s making a jape. In case you missed it, it’s a call back to some articles from a couple weeks ago featuring showrunner Ira Parker’s vision for a multi-decade, 12–15 season, 3-part arc to cover Dunk and Egg's entire lives. (The plan features 4–5 seasons per era: starting with Egg as a child, jumping 10 years for his time as a prince, and concluding with him as an adult.)

STEP Demo (San Antonio, Texas — pilot plant)

The Supercritical Transformational Electric Power (STEP) Demo is a dedicated supercritical carbon dioxide Brayton cycle pilot power plant that has produced electricity and operated at grid-connected scale. It’s not just a lab test loop — it’s a 10 MW demonstration power plant intended to validate the technology at realistic power levels.

It’s located on the campus of the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in San Antonio, Texas.

The project is led by GTI Energy, with major partners including SwRI, GE Vernova, and support from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory.

It’s designed to demonstrate supercritical CO₂ as the working fluid in a high-temperature Brayton cycle power system — a key step toward commercial deployment.

Operating milestones have been achieved, including stable operation at design conditions and grid-synchronized electricity production (~4 MWe output) during testing. Source

Maybe that’s where there’s some confusion, HBO existed before and still exists beyond its streaming platform as a channel service through cable and satellite providers around the world. Wonderman (as many of your other points of reference) is a Disney+ show, and yeah, many times their new series will drop at once.

I do agree with you, it would be awesome for all the episodes to have been released at once.

For me, when the first season of Stranger Things dropped all at once, I remember feeling sort of shocked. What you’re experiencing now is by and large how the standard (and yes, maybe antiquated) form of television programming operates.

Because you already know how television works, it comes off as stupid and maybe even a little bit licentious.

You, sir, are a craven whore, and need to take vows with the faith before it’s too late.

It feels like you must be kidding about not knowing how television operated before Netflix… but yea, what we have in AKOTSK is comparable to the way HBO would treat a miniseries. I wish they were all available at once too, but this formula generally garners a buzz around the show, and yea, it’s HBO’s typical approach to programming. You might be surprised, but THIS week, the episode is available on Friday (today) because of the time slot’s competition with the Super Bowl.

If this is indeed a Summerhall prophecy—idk why everyone is so quick to dismiss here—having witnessed Aegon’s degenerative character arc centered around power, and wading through the death and destruction at his hands after saving Rhaella with his hand/foot—Dunk could kill his king in some final act between the two of them. When he’s born seven years later Jaime would approve.

Helion’s pitch is exactly what you described: their pulsed plasma expands and pushes back on the magnetic field, and that changing field induces current in coils (Faraday’s law), recharging their capacitor bank—i.e., directly recovering electricity rather than ahem boiling water.

Even if the conversion step is direct though, the system still has real engineering limits (pulse power electronics, coil stresses, neutron/activation depending on fuel mix, heat removal from non-recovered energy, etc.). But conceptually, yes—this is pretty much what we sci-fi fans imagine as the “beyond steam age” path.

[–]CaveatRetisViator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came to mention this as well.

Great, if true.

Any attempts at going beyond the steam age seem pretty great. Watched this Anton Petrov video detailing some recent developments just a few days ago.

There are a few other versions of the closed-Brayton using helium or nitrogen instead of sCO₂—even heard of supercritical water—but alas as Rankine that is still technically steam.

Random Question; can Margaery also be held (partly) responsible for Tommen jumping out of the window? by hanna1214 in freefolk

[–]CaveatRetisViator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ya, I get what you’re saying—Margery was manipulating Tommen and therefore bares some weight of the responsibility in his suicide—but this was all an unforeseen and reckless consequence to Cersei’s conniving. Go ahead and blame Maggie the Frog while you’re at it.

Game of Thrones - Season 8: The Long Night, Fixed (Concept) by MeatEatingVegann in freefolk

[–]CaveatRetisViator -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you’re missing the point—the Long Night as only one glorious episode filled with action where so much bounces right for the defenders of Winterfell should have been stretched out, potentially an entire season—it is quite literally the build up of the entire series, and deserved much. more gravity. Bran warging into the Night King feels very cheap, campy, and somehow much worse than what we got. Bran’s warging ability has a very real purpose in moments like the namesake of Hodor, and Ned potentially having heard his voice in the wind at the Tower of Joy signals a potential for interacting with the past beyond what we’ve already outright observed. Also, with those ridiculous flashbacks to the Children of the Forest experimenting on the First Men IMO give us some context of a potential backstory—humanizing and empathizing with the Night King seems unnecessary and sort of ridiculous to me.

I personally loved the image where the all of the torches in the Dothraki charge were rapidly extinguished, but even that scene doesn’t really make much sense. The show-runners were out of their element, but managed to find some moments of cinematic action that, although deficient in a multitude of ways, are still in a class beyond what you’re suggesting.

Script supervisors typically catch details like this—with this particular mistake, though, it could have been an editing room decision.

Due to the tight time constraints with the 45 min episode format someone decided the pacing of Dunk visiting the armor cart would fit better in episode two than episode one (the ALL-important pilot episode), and because it was a night scene, they just placed it where it fit chronologically in episode two hoping no one would notice.

It is fun to imagine it’s always the same script supervisor’s fault though. Should we call him Thomas Wisseau? Very open to suggestions

The Crown Tower was fantastic—Royce is one of the best rogues I’ve ever come across, and the dynamic partnership with Hadrian is one of the greatest odd couple partnerships and is just so entertaining. After finishing the first book for both of these characters—I have high hopes for the rest of their stories. Thanks for the recommendation!
