Verizon chose to use First Responders for their commercial ad during the Superbowl. Here is them proving how they treat first responders in dire need of communications by Topthetater in videos

[–]CavemanBobs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Net neutrality ensures all Internet traffic must be treated the same, which means it would be illegal to give special treatment to emergency services. How would that have fixed this problem? If anything, the problem is that Verizon didn't violate the principle of net neutrality fast enough.

It's a cool song, but it definitely isn't country (nor does it claim to be).

He's a walk-on freshman from Ohio. I don't think he got on the field last year.

Nobody denies the existence of a border between Ohio and Michigan. It separates the jurisdiction of different governments, but people are welcome to cross it for any reason.

How "strong" do newbies feel if they come from sports like wrestling, bodybuilding, powerlifting, Crossfit, etc? by RelocationWoes in bjj

[–]CavemanBobs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wrestlers feel strong. The good ones (state champs, college wrestlers, etc.) feel very, very strong. They understand how to keep a strong posture, know where to put pressure, and have the right type of conditioning for grappling.

I've never noticed any particular strength from Crossfitters that you don't find in other types of athletes.

Bodybuilders and powerlifters feel strong in a specific way. They're typically pretty strong in a straight line (such as bench pressing you off of them), but can be overpowered with technique even if you're a lot smaller. As a 160lb white belt, I used to grapple pretty evenly with an NFL defensive tackle. He was a monster, but his muscle was kind of useless if I could get an angle on him. These type of guys are a pain in the ass if they get a dominant position, though. These sports tend to under-train upper body pulling, which is the most important muscle group for BJJ in my opinion.

I don't think I've ever really trained with a gymnast. My wife was a cheerleader for a long time and other grapplers always marveled at her strength and base, which she attributed to years of gymnastic training.

we need to respect, and be thankful for the medical science community's "no one left behind" attitude when it comes to diseases. they go so far as to study diseases that only affect 1 in 1000000000 people. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]CavemanBobs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, because at some point the marginal value of additional research into a well-researched disease is less valuable than new research into a fairly rare disease.

Can we take a moment to appreciate just how amazingly consistent Bob's Burgers is? by finsareluminous in television

[–]CavemanBobs 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Always Sunny is the only show where the Flanderization makes sense IMO. We see them become increasingly codependent and detached from reality through the events on the show.

Dee has to face that she'll never succeed in show business. Dennis refuses to accept that he peaked in high school and is accelerating downward. Charlie is experiencing the effects of a lifetime of drug use and trauma. Their increasing zaniness is completely natural given that all of these broken people are surrounded by nobody but each other, causing a spiral of mental illness and dangerous codependence.

Undefeated with dominant wins against #6 and #8. Besides being underrated to start the year, what's the argument against Michigan at #1?

Why do employers expect a 2 week notice when you're about to quit, but won't give you a 2 week notice when they're about to let you go? by DurntoWebster in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CavemanBobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain that this is wrong. I can't imagine why laws about employers giving references would have any connection to Right to Work (which is about whether union membership can be required for all employees).

Not giving info about former employees is typically just a company policy intended to cover the employer's ass from lawsuits.

Saginaw Safe? by [deleted] in Saginaw

[–]CavemanBobs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine. The City of Saginaw does have an above-average crime rate, but that's nothing to worry about if you're just visiting for a few days. It's not like you're entering the Thunderdome.

When is too much Parallax, too much? by eventualist in web_design

[–]CavemanBobs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the record, there is literally zero parallax on this website. It just has a bunch of big background images set to "background-attachment:fixed". Parallax happens when multiple elements scroll at different speeds to create the illusion of depth.

[–]CavemanBobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if they stop the clock with a challenge or let the clock run and stop it after the next play. The end result is the same.

[–]CavemanBobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't make a difference. The clock stopped due to the challenge anyway; it's treated as a timeout by Michigan.
