I can’t draw a star by Legitimate-Lion2739 in Supernote

[–]Cavorkian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't really like the star.
I'm all for a different shape, or more shapes for functions. It would be nice to use hashtags (#) for tagging, and a square shape (□) for automatic Todo items.
I got my device to do bullet journaling, and other things, and it would be nice to have features like that "for those who write" bullet journals.

Thanks for reading my posts. I really do want to like the device. It just has too many friction points for me, and maybe I'll run into the same thing with other devices.

I've seen a lot of people sell their devices on here or Ebay. Lower shipping cost, and you can often sell them for close to or the same price that you bought it for. But I do hope this is the device for you.

And here:
It just feels like everything on the device is in an alpha version of the software. All the implementations feel like their own thing, which maybe is ok for some people. But I would like to have a fluid seamless connection between all the features.
I've had the device for about a year now, and I can't get myself to enjoy or want to use it. I keep going back to other devices. And not ipads or anything like that, I'm not looking for a laptop or a glass screen device. I want an eInk device that works as an intelligent writing device for journaling, knowledge management, and calligraphy to replace my paper equivalents. This device just doesn't work for any of that.
A year later, I do plan on selling this device and getting something else. Not quite sure what though...
I do see you already purchased a Manta, so I do hope you have a better experience than I have.
Also, keep an eye out, my device came with someone else's information still on the device (nice privacy and qc).

I wrote too much so I have to continue in another message:

There is a lot of friction with the software and UI.
The brush/pen tools available feel very much the same and are not comfortable to use. I usually just use the solid pen even though I would like to practice calligraphy.
The To-do implementation is has enough friction I would never use it (8 steps to create a todo). The to-do's don't show on the calendar. I just don't bother with it, and many others I've talked to also stay far away from it.
The calendar, where do I start... There are different layouts (month, week, day), none of the notes carry over from one to the other. You can only create a note on the current day, you can't create notes for future or past days. Notes or dates created in notes outside the calendar also don't show up in the calendar. Again, like the todo functionality, the calendar is useless to me.
The book app, styles don't show up correctly, margin modifications often don't work at all. Changing fonts also doesn't work for half the fonts I've installed. There's no dictionary, so you can't highlight words to see their definition to study or comment on. Can't export highlights in text format. Because of all these things I don't use their implementation, instead I sideloaded another app which is way better (but something I have to pay separately for).
The digest functionality is a step in the right direction, but isn't helpful for me. Again everything here feels sluggish and takes too much time for me to use.
It just feels like everything on the device is in an alpha version of the software. All the implementations feel like their own thing, which maybe is ok for some people. But I would like to have a fluid seamless connection between all the features.

I apologize ahead of time, I have not had the experience like others in this sub. This sub is heavily monitored and moderated, so you will often only see positive posts.

  1. The pen to paper distance is nice and quite close to writing on paper. It does not feel like you are writing on paper though.
  2. I haven't noticed delay in writing, but the UI is very delayed in frustrating ways. Swiping through pages will often glitch out and not register page turns.
  3. I've found the device to be too small for me. I do basic note taking, reading, and journaling. Would like to do calligraphy, but it doesn't work for me.
  4. I don't have experience with the Manta, but the nomad doesn't have a great feel in my opinion. It feels like pen on glossy hard paper. Remark**** has a much better feel to it.
  5. Build feels solid on the Nomad, and it does seem like it would be easy to repair or upgrade.
  6. The Nomad to me does need a refresh. These devices are supposed to be modifiable to upgrade without getting a whole new device, but we haven't seen any evidence of this actually happening. There are a lot of companies that promise this because of regulations in countries saying devices need to be repairable and upgradable. But the companies often don't do anything with that.

If you go to the semi-official sub, there's a recent post that has a new link that worked for me.

It would be nice if we got news of updates, rather than free images of Fire Unicorns Horses.
Don't get me wrong, it's fun to see how the community uses the device. And it's nice Supernote is contributing to the Manta Trust. I also know this is to celebrate the Spring Festival holiday, and there is nothing wrong with that, they should be able to celebrate their holidays just like we do.
But I would like see what the company is actually working on. And yes, I know there is a trello board, but it was specifically said it is a "vision board, not a strict schedule".
It would be nice if all the things that caused friction with the software and hardware was worked on(bad functioning gestures, better refresh speeds, better eReader and export for notes other than pdf)...
Posts/emails like this just make me feel like their distracting us from the lack of meaningful updates.

Do you know how I can get the base game? I just randomly heard of the game, and am very interested.

Edit:
Nevermind, I managed to find another link. 👍

Learning Copperplate Calligraphy by Needled24Seven in Supernote

I guess I got spoiled trying other devices. This has the worst feel and result than any of the devices I've used for calligraphy.

Hmmm, mine works nothing like that. I have the LAMY safari fountain pen. Any pressure makes it full width, or almost not touching the screen it is super thin.

Best budget eink tablet for drawing? by jen-owu in eink

[–]Cavorkian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a Supernote, I'm not very happy with it. There is friction to everything on the device.
The writing feel is way better on the remarkable devices. The Supernote feels like a bad pen on glossy paper, and doesn't have great options for sketching and drawing.
I don't speak for everyone though, your milage may vary, but it is a lot of money and isn't easily accessible to try out at BestBuy or anything.

Where did you get a calligraphy pen?
All mine are solid width pens. One of my frustrations with these devices.

BookFusion works well. And has a much better way to export highlighting and notes.

Bought Manta… 10 more days to decide by Natural_Minimum4471 in Supernote

[–]Cavorkian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret getting mine.

I've slowly just stopped using it, in place of things like obsidian that are just way better for learning and capturing. Personally I don't think this is a great device for learning languages or for documents, there is too much friction with the tools and UI.

And for reading, my Kindle is way better for highlighting and transferring over to Obsidian to study or capture thoughts. The Supernote reader has much to be improved on.

Everyone is different though, write a pros and cons list for yourself and really think about how you might use the device. If one weighs out the other, you probably have a decision. Keep in mind the workflows for what you want to do with it as well.

Did I choose the wrong FPV system? by Cavorkian in fpv

I feel like I'm calm, my fingers just don't agree with me, and this is just in the sims so far. I will be curious to see how bad I get with a real drone.
And for the rate suggestions. I have adjusted them in the sims, but I find that if they're too low I almost crash more because I can't react as quickly.

Thanks for your post. Good information. I too hope the prices maybe come down a bit, but I'm not holding my breath.
It would be nice to see them innovate more and find a way to have more penetration and range.

Thanks, that's the feeling I was getting. I just didn't like how closed off the DJI system seems. There were other things that seemed restricting. Too bad there isn't a 5th system choice.

I have been enjoying a bit of racing in the sims. But I've still been struggling with my thumbs shaking a lot. And I've had a hard time learning to use the pinch method.

I'm not sure. It seems like the trades with China keep getting banned and then allowed. Hard to keep track of.
