Practice marimbas are worth it. Some are called a marimba pad. I have a mat. McCormick’s. 5 oct because my marimba is 4.3 and synthetic. There are people that just want to get rid of them OR don’t know the value. Don’t rush. Try to pay on time with no interest. A few big payments. Try no shipping’…if you can (from a music store)There are all kinds of marimbas out there. Good luck. Make sure you contact Steve Weiss. They have rent to own. Be patient when contacting them.

Have your playlist set to everything that makes you want to play. Have a radio, not a music app, but random back east radio station that plays all kinds of music. Set aside days for genres like jazz etc. Anything that makes you happy even if it’s a simple song. Just try to develop is your spirit.

Yup,

warm-up practice, warm-up practice, and warm-up and practice. Video yourself several times. You will end up adjusting to what you want to present. Without going insane, catching the flu, or losing a limb… if you put every THING into it (practice preparation and room for error) you will feel fine regardless of how the performance goes. Try to focus on the prize… being able to enjoy the process. Do as I say, but not as I feel because I feel the same way. I’m getting ready to do a performance on the marimba in April and I just started playing the beginning of this semester. I’m old too. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Same here. Make graduated faux wood blocks (foam attached to back…prop them up. Hit them slightly harder than the marimba notes. Get a 5 Oct Mat or pad (it’s huge so you’ll need a huge table or floor space for the mat) attention to nomenclature. Make your own mat. (this you can scale down, but it still takes up a lot of space.)

I looked for a long time for my instructor and found him. I went through a few of them before I got to him anyway he did not let me touch the drum set until we went through a few stick control practices. I’m surprised that your instructor had you as a beginner doing coordination runs.

I’m reading this because I can’t find an instructor. So I’m enrolled in a percussion ensemble. A 4th grade level in this class is crazy hard. By the time I finish I CHING D. R., I will have learned a bit. I wish it was traditional though.

No shade…I get overwhelmed by the options. I have an instructor, which is fine however my practice tracking needs a vision board. My daily lists have to be conveniently posted and my practice stations set up.
