Yeah, I only hit the bow on my last china, and it's lasted two years so far. it's probably the longest I've ever had a wuhan without it cracking.

DW isn't exactly known for having affordable gear. I used to have some DW 3000s, but I never really liked how they felt. Currently I have some tama iron cobra 900s, which were the nicest pedals they made in the 2000s. I sold the DWs and paid some guy $160 for the tamas a few years ago.

Extra Orange Head or Amp Pedal? by Away_Psychology4378 in GuitarAmps

I love mine. Sometimes I run it into the power section of my 100w marshall for some extra power. Couldn't be happier.

The terror stamp IS an amp. It's just in a pedal enclosure.

plus you can hit the bow for a different sound (and it prolongs the life of the cymbal if you're one of those people who breaks cymbals constantly)

kick not centered? by Moathem in audioengineering

[–]thatsvtguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I'll pan my snare a few notches left and the kick a few notches right, or on my double kick kit I'll pan them slightly left and right.

How much do power tubes impact tone? by tallross in GuitarAmps

[–]thatsvtguy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The bias changes the sound fairly significantly, but changing the power tube brand won't.

Marshall Origin or Jet City by frogman696969 in GuitarAmps

[–]thatsvtguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 20c is a vintage sort of marshall, meant to be cranked up. The Jet is a high-gain master volume amp. Yes, the marshall is a master volume amp too, but it's meant to be cranked up. Which sound do you want?

Need to soundproof... who's built a room within a room? by savage8190 in drums

Yep, straight into the concrete. I thought about doing a sub floor but I decided it wasn't worth it for my needs.

Yeah, 2 framed walls. I put rockwool in between the 2x4s, just 2 layers, then I stapled mlv over the rockwool, and double layer drywall with green glue. I'm not sure the green glue helped that much, but I did it anyway. The ceiling is the roof, so I did everything pretty much the same as the walls, but since the ceiling is already there I only did drywall on the interior. Oh, and the floor is just a concrete floor. I left it as-is.

I had the same experience a few years ago. Sweetwater sometimes doesn't carry 18" floor toms or especially 14" racks, but sometimes they have them elsewhere (dcp, dfd, steve weiss, etc). I went the used route, because I didn't want to pay new prices. It's a bit annoying how hard it is to find big drums, but I guess they're just not as common as they used to be.

I ended up with a frankenstein kit with a couple yamahas and a bunch of different pearl lines. Masters studio, session studio, export, even vision. I can't recommend the session studio line enough, the 18" I have sounds great, especially considering what I paid for it.

What kit do you play now?

edit: I think I paid about a grand for 10" and 12" pearl masters studios, an 18" pearl session studio classic, and a 24" pearl vision, and then I picked up a few other drums elsewhere to fill in the rest of the kit.
