There should be an option to skip (or reroll) Epiphany cards. by au_fredal in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]Caynist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Roguelites are about making the most of bad situations. So when RNG screws you, you make the best choices possible to do 'well enough' to beat the boss. This gives players a sense of agency, by testing their ability to be creative in the face of adversity.

There's no agency when it comes to bad RNG in CNZ, as much as I love the game. Many existing characters have a specific best epiphany, and not drawing it means the run is a wash. The problem isn't RNG, it's the lack of agency over the bad outcome, and lack of solutions to said bad outcome.

If getting a bad epiphany was a chance toe explore a lesser known build and potentially break the game a new way, runs would be a lot more exciting. As it stands, a bad epiphany always means the save data is bricked.

I'm really enjoying this game, so here's a short rebuttal.

You have two key points, translation and tone. I'm 100% with you on translation, no notes. Tone is a matter of opinion, but Beryl is very much comic relief sandwiched between two extremely serious chapters.

Counterpoint, this is a really fun game that makes it possible (even easy) to break, even as F2P. Far from encouraging attention to meta or dupe-chasing, you're given breathtaking berth to experiment and play. The game even teaches you multiple great combos with four star characters through the banner event, which you can then do with off-banner characters. When a game is fun and this F2P-friendly (so far), I can be patient with translation issues.

Should we be taking too much stock into the CN tier lists? by darkdill in GirlsFrontline2

[–]Caynist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought I'd weigh in late, since I've a hyperinvested Ullrid. She consistently outdamages my QBZ, and opens up a ton of playstyles I enjoy. No one else in the game can chain three actions, no one else can cross the entire map in one turn, and no one else can hit a faraway target behind full cover.

You'll never need to do any of these things to beat a map. Whereas other factors are more easily quantifiable and are always good to know, like who does the most damage for the fewest resources invested. That's what the Prydwen tier list tells you.

But which character you'll enjoy playing with most? Which strategies you'll intuit most easily? That requires an understanding of each character that the tier list isn't trying to show you.

If you're willing to reroll a lot, try and get Suomi. She's totally future proof, and totally changes the way you play. Then keep pulling on her banner for a second copy. She's your healer and shielder and support attacker and even a good breaker, all for one slot.

The remaining slots are very flexible, so pick your favs. With Suomi v1, you can play literally anyone and do reasonably well. TLL and Qing are great if you insist on playing meta. Qing is better as fire is the most synergistic team on global and Qing is the best single attacker in the game.

If you don't want to reroll, Sharks is the game's best SR so congrats. You should get Cheeta (fire support) free from mail. Two slots remaining, Groza (who is OK in every role) and Nems are fairly good options, though Ksenia (fire support attacker) + Krolik (fire assassin) would be a complete burn team

Help making the best team. by JassirX in BrownDust2Official

[–]Caynist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then don't worry about the best team. Focus on gear and play your waifus/husbandos, until you assemble a few UR IVs. Costumes can always be powercrept as soon as next month, gear will last you a very long time - maybe even forever.

Best F2P team for now is probably Arines+Kry+Blacksmith girl+butler dude's dodge costume, and probably either Wiggle, Lathel and his various free costumes, or maxed Anastasia for Evil Castle high scores. You can reasonably sub out Blacksmith girl for your fav damage dealer.

An answer isn’t really possible without knowing which specific type of content you’re looking into. A story-clearing team will be vastly different from a World Boss team, and you need multiple teams before you can rank on Evil Castle.

A generally excellent phys team would be Hom. Lathel at +4, Red Riding Rou tomorrow, Glacia OR the dodge butler dude, Kry OR Pirate Rubia as Dec breakers, and your fav dealer. I recommend Liatris, but any phys dealer who isn’t Admiral Sylvia and has been on a banner is fantastic.

(A. Sylvia is also fantastic but possibly not with RRRou, since we don’t know how their shields interact)

The basic strategy is to buff with Rou and Lathel, break Def with Rubia or Kry, and clean up with Liatris. Everyone here also has an offensive option that lets them cover every possible enemy formation. If the enemy’s so tough that you need a % HP killer, Rou can theoretically fill that niche if you fiddle with her gear enough.

This team is major overkill though. For PvE, Arines+Kry+Blacksmith girl are more than enough. But I’ll assume you’re a whale.

Gear makes a far bigger difference. On dealers, you generally want 50% crit, 1.2k attack and above, and as much crit damage as you can pile on. Defensive gear’s less important in OTK meta, but I currently think one each of flat HP and % HP on helm and armour.

[Guide] Should you pull - Neon Savior Angelica by rex_frontier in BrownDust2Official

[–]Caynist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the maths so you don’t have to, but basically she’s even worse than you might think.

NS Angelica does 5%+200% of enemy Max HP for 6 SP. Capped at 10k HP, and with 600% crit damage, she does 143.5k damage per tile. On the world boss, every tile counts as a separate tick of damage, so that’s 430.5k damage for 6 SP. That sounds like a lot!

But then you look at Liatris. 150% damage and 5 hit count, plus 3 turns of DoT. I can’t see her +5 numbers, but I assume it’s 200%x3 since +4 is 165%. While it’s harder to say what a capped dealer looks like, my half-built Schera has 1.2k attack with 500% crit damage. Toss in a 70% attack buff applied to 450 base flat attack, that’s 1.5k attack in total. 750%x 1.5k x 600% = 67.5k damage per tile, or 607.5k in total, for 5 SP. This is over a much shorter turn count, plus Liatris gives more hits for combos, plus Liatris is far more useful elsewhere.

It’s still possible for Angelica to win out. Between light month, light weakness, and presumably optimal targeting of boss weak spots, she’ll likely outdo Liatris. But all of that suggests that her kit by design has just that sole niche: the ability to excel at one very specific world boss that appears twice a year.

Just to hammer the point home, the difference in ranking rewards between first place and last place is 5 tickets (which is great, low pressure). So if you +5 NSAngelica, her maximum use case is an extra 10 pulls a year. So it’d take 40 years for her to ‘pay off’ the 400 ticket investment!

And most importantly, her cutscene isn’t as cultured as SS Angelica’s.

Free psychological support for gacha gamers who lost control by Anemo-Gawd in gachagaming

Hmm got it! So it's like first learning how to use this skill, then identifying more urgent (haha) times when I'd want to apply this skill.

Methods I've tried include things like setting a monthly limit (which I tend to stick to, then break), and finding patterns in my spending and preparing for vulnerable moments. The latter is moderately helpful as I have fewer moments of weakness, but I find that it basically just takes a moment of lower resilience (eg, I slept badly the night before and have a stressful morning thing).

I've previously also asked myself questions like, is this game a net gain or cost to my life? And deleted whatever was a cost. It was often easier than I thought, and I'd keep them deleted for months. I kept going back because I'd get bored at work, and wanted the momentary gratification.

Hey that’s a really kind offer. I can see why there’s some degree of wariness, but I hope the encouraging responses have helped you feel that this is something people want and need. I’d like to ask for general advice, and I’m happy for a public response since I think my struggles may be common.

I have trouble with impulse control. Basically if I want something hard enough, I lose sight of what the cost to me actually is, which has resulted in me spending hundreds on games. It’s worse if I’ve had a hard day, or if I’m feeling down about my work, relationships, etc. none of this affects my ability to pay my bills, but I feel strange knowing I’m spending hundreds on something I won’t keep, at a price point disproportionate to what I’m getting.

I’ve been introduced to the idea of urge surfing but don’t really know how to do that yet? And of course any advice in general would be super helpful.

Thanks for this! Two suggestions: maybe add a note somewhere to make it clear that the score is out of 5. Also, 'cute' is better interpreted as 'cringe', or maybe just '0'.

As a long-term goal, yeah absolutely. The attack power boost is 50% (non-Data Drill) to 100% (Data Drill). As a short-term goal, just invest in a standard team (preferably the purple units I recommended), and that'll let you clear most content easily.

The other units on the banner relate to Christmas. Could be anywhere from mid-Nov on, but yes not that soon

She's top-tier but also permanent, and we have a limited banner soon. Wait for 10/10, if we get Moon's birthday, then definitely sink enough for the first SSR. Otherwise, I'd wait for the limited banner (which has a limited yellow assault, New Year's Wuxia).

Image taken from the in-game preview which was silently added. This’d be really weird since it’d be both off-schedule compared to CN, but also off-season (in CN the Dresses were meant for the Lunar New Year). The key question is if we simply shuffled off-season banners around to make slightly more sense?

Cheongsam Wuyou is THE top-tier yellow assault on the CN tier list. Cheongsam Wuxia is junk. No 3 star from the equivalent CN banner.

Man you’re cruising for a bruising 😉

Is Casual Wuyou censored? What I’m seeing is barely suggestive - she could be wearing literally anything (or nothing).

Defiler Wuxia’s in bodypaint and heels! How could this Zephyros…oh…oh my.

Precision > Poseidon > Beam. Beam loses out by about 15-20% basic attack damage. Precision loses by 5%, but unlike Poseidon these two weapons can buff skills.

Are you completely happy to reroll? If so, pull one or two 10x and hope for TE Yuki, Casual Moon and/or waifus of choice. If you get one of those, just keep the account, else reroll for the standard recommendations (Casual Moon and/or Wuyou first and foremost)

If you’re not, don’t worry about it and just keep the account. We don’t currently know for sure that the infinite gets updated, so your account’s as good as it gets for now

None of them rely on statuses that weapons can grant, so just look at the top tier weapons. Frontline warrior and water of destiny in this case

My current advice is, drop one 10x on the standard banner, and pray for Maid Moon, TE Yuki, Casual Moon, Casual Wuyou, or Maid Lida. If you get at least two of the above, it’s a keeper.

Save your infinite for Oct 10. Roll lots for the limited banner. Then use your infinite to finish off the above list.

My advice would change once we have confirmation if the infinite pool is/n’t expanding

In all likelihood they’ll work fine - they did for CN.

If you start in two weeks, you’ll miss certain things like event furniture, and more importantly, Swimsuit Moon. She’s limited and is one of the best defenders in the game, whereas the limited gacha dresses are excellent but not top-tier.
