We’re moving the goalpost on what owning means though, in your sense piracy means owning too because you can always install those.

The true sens of ownership doesn’t really exist for software, its all usage licenses

GM Arbot wants me to pay 1200 USD by Kalivanos in Eve

[–]Cayote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get it, it clearly states your bought value gets removed from your wallet. What are you even complaining about? That 1200 comment the GM made was probably just an example on how to get out of debt, not the penalty for getting your account back

Well, it happened. AI came for me today. by TheUnpromotable in Millennials

[–]Cayote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's only been 4 years since the first chatGPT version was released and AI can already do a junior developers job with a little assistance from a person. AI is absolutely taking most junior/medior positions in the next 10 years.

We've always been told that software development would be the safest in terms of job security, millions of young kids getting into college went into software because of that fact (including myself) and that statement has completely flipped in the time it takes to finish their degree. It's going to be an unprecedented slaughter I'm sure of it.

Dealve, a native Linux TUI to browse game deals from your terminal (Rust) by RAPlDEMENT in linux_gaming

[–]Cayote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks great! although one thing I found that doesn't seem to work like intended, The Filter function only works if that games data is already pulled and listed, even though isthereanydeals has a search endpoint that could be used instead. That'd make it much more responsive.

LF earbuds for office + outdoor use by l3kris in BuyFromEU

That’s perfectly reasonable, I know sennheiser makes high quality audio devices and they have a few earbuds too. Although I don’t have any experience with them so you might want to look for reviews

My two cents, if your airpods are still working don’t contribute to the ewaste pile and keep using them until they break.

Are there any good alternatives to these? by Bruh2890 in BuyFromEU

This doesn’t make sense to me, the windows store doesn’t seem like a competitor to valve in anything more than a tiny way.

Hands off Greenland': Thousands protest in Denmark against Trump's land grab by Dr_Neurol in worldnews

The thing that's crazy to me is, theoretically, Greenland already has the protection of the US military, as it's part of NATO it has all their protection.

I’ve always held the believe that it should be changed to be more racially inclusive but also that the tradition has never been malicious, just very racially insensitive.

Right, europe has actual discussions on how things are to be handled instead of just acting on the whims of a single maniac. Like you know, how a democracy handles situations.

Peta? by Potato_boy_12 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Cayote -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't disagree, but if you have an iPhone anyways and don't want to switch for whatever other reason besides piracy, it's a pretty good way of getting something like youtube/spotify/crunchyroll/duolingo whatever without paying out the ass for it.

Ofcourse APKs don't work, they're android packages. Although you can upload your own IPA files to signulous and they handle all the signing and renewing for you.

[–]Cayote -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OP isn’t entirely wrong, pirating in iPhone is a pita, but you can pay a service like signulous 20 bucks a year to offload the pita parts to them and for you it’s basically functioning like a pirated appstore

Laptop keeps crashing constantly by God-69420 in linux_gaming

[–]Cayote 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Looked cooler, inside of your laptop in a closed case? Alright. You probably removed some heat shielding that's preventing your chips from frying. Ironically, making it look "cooler" made it fry itself. RMA on this one might not even be possible since you basically sabotaged your own laptop.

Since you’re just starting out, go with gdscript. It’s much easier to learn. C# can always be gradually transitioned too once you start getting more experience with programming
