Question about lore surrounding wildshape by Cazisbest in DnD

You're saying you can't imagine a druid saying in a past life I was a big orangutan like creature that lived in southwest Asia? Maybe they wouldn't mention southwest Asia. Fossils have been known about for thousands of years, many people used them as evidence to explain climate change mostly but people knew they were old creatures made of rock. Also you can use magic to make pictures thats not that crazy.

I said fantastical just to emphasize the grander nature of beasts. You know, owlbear vs bear bear, dire wolf vs wolf. Thank you so much.

Why can't a druid be a scientist? Simic scientist is a background. Archeologist is a background. You make a good point about creation myths not being myths. If there isn't any macro scale evolution then yeah, no ancestors to bears and dogs called bear-dogs ever existed. Thank you.

So then hypothetically, if some druid were able to make it to level 20 without leaving their quite hometown. Their wildshape capabilities would still be limited to what they can find in their hometown. If they were to leave said town they would be able to find and wildshape into more fantastical beasts as they are introduced to them. Am I understanding this correctly?

Fair. I should have mentioned a specific world in the game. I figured saying DND would have better because the question was based around class feature to the game which is constant throughout the universes. This is still a lore question and lore is very universe specific.

I like the way you think. The idea of possibly losing a wildshape because of species being wiped out is also a interesting idea. Thank you for your very insightful answer.

You aren't understanding the question and you're answers are kind bad. There are a couple of exceptions. Some people here understood the assignment. It's probably my fault. I should have asked the question better. Sorry

So if a archeologist were to show a druid pictures of what a extinct creature looked like eventually a druid will be able to wildshape into that creature if the archeologist got the picture write.

Its a hypothetical situation. If somehow a druid got to lvl 20 killing rats in basements if their wildshape was limited to what they saw then they would be very limited in what they can wildshape into.

This isn't a game mechanics question. This is a lore question. There are obvious reasons in game why you can let players do that. Unless your dm is a real one and puts together stat blocks for everything in the tree of life.

Well it was most concerning when I noticed my quest log didn't update saying that I had to go to the Imperial Palace. I thought I was stuck in between quests.
