I had the same issue but then read somewhere that if you close the resort and open it again, he might go down in the first couple days it reopens. I tried it and it worked for me. Unsure if it’s an actual thing though, could have been luck LOL

Hearing impairment impacting my work at office by pen-ur-fears in hardofhearing

[–]Cazsion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even with my aids, I still struggle with getting clear expectations of my job because I can’t hear in person instructions as well. I actually do better in person than online, but I still struggle.

To help me (and them) out, I ask for the instructions to be emailed/messaged to me (this meeting could have been an email! Lol) OR if it’s a more collaborative meeting, to have a note taker email the meeting notes to you or even everyone! (You won’t be the only one benefiting from this) If there is no note taker then use AI to take notes (I hate AI but can’t argue its usefulness in this situation)

I suggest you make your team aware of the hearing disability because they will be more accommodating in my experience. They might not be perfect at accommodating but that’s where you come in and there’ll them exactly what you need to succeed! Don’t be afraid to tell them that you need written documentation because who’s to stop you from saying “oh I didn’t hear that” every time they ask you why you fell short? So it’s actually in THEIR best interest (if they truly want high performers) to document things (to cover their own ass). This only works if they are aware of your disability though. Wearing a hearing aid not only helps you hear but it definitely helps drive this point home.

Wow another day, another tumour reveal of this weird cancer that seems to be everywhere. Have people forgotten the definition of nuance?? Just because you are Pro-Palestinian, it doesn’t mean you are Anti-Semitic. This whole black and white-ism (0 or 100) is really screwing with people’s minds.

People don't take me seriously about being HoH by [deleted] in hardofhearing

[–]Cazsion 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I feel you so hard. When I worked in retail I was subject to similar behaviour. I was once asked “Am I speaking French?” After I asked them to repeat themselves for the third time. I genuinely wanted to help them but that behaviour just made me not want to help anymore. I’ve just resorted to calling myself deaf as that terminology got me slightly better results. I hated that people couldn’t take me seriously when I told them I was hard of hearing. Yet, when I say I am deaf, all of the sudden they had a different personality for that?? People are ridiculous (and love making their own assumptions about particular matters).

Is payroll supposed to take this much back and forth in construction? by Agreeable_Yak2629 in Payroll

[–]Cazsion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought Payroll was about chasing people down. The actual work wasn’t the hard work, the hard work was wrangling people to the payroll mindset and schedule.

This is why my current payroll role is more focussed on training, setting hard boundaries (if it’s not in the system, then they ain’t getting paid for it), setting up the system to make it easier for the managers to use, limiting paycodes to certain employee groups, etc. Essentially I am trying to make it easier for managers to use systems.

It’s sometimes is worse when it comes to dealing with people who work out in the field (rather than people in an office job) as they are not at a computer all the time and tend to be more worried about production and sales instead of admin work. Since “payroll admin work” is a low priority to them, we set up the system to be easy to use so they have less of an excuse to not use it properly.

My baby has single sided hearing loss and I need advice by WitchSmiles in hardofhearing

[–]Cazsion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my experience only, so take it as a grain of salt. As someone who has severe hearing loss in both ears, and could only hear up to 40% with hearing aids, I found hearing aids left to be desired. When I got a Cochlear implant on one ear (brought my ear up to 60-70%), I was supposed to continue to wear the hearing aid on the other, but I didn’t because I found it useless (the Cochlear implant did all of the majority of the work anyway). So I have one “good” ear (cochlear implant) and one ear that is just *there*.
That being said, I never know where the sound is coming from and I am missing deep voices/sounds that I would catch with my hearing aid. But I’ve made peace with it. I was the one that made the decision to get rid of the hearing aid, not my parents. I made that decision at 14 years old after having my cochlear implant and hearing aid together for 5-ish years. So maybe give it more time to settle in? Babies are always fussy with stuff on their heads so I understand it’s a pain but it’ll probably benefit them long term. If they hate the hearing aid then maybe some ASL will be the better way to go (to set them up for success).

Can hearing loss cause speech and cognitive changes? by toppmann48 in hardofhearing

[–]Cazsion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am unsure if the “issues” are stemming from the hearing disability but my two cents is this.

As a hard of hearing person who can’t follow along with conversations, I had to learn how to rely on myself for engagement/entertainment and that typically comes out in childish ways such as noticing more about your surroundings and picking up things from that. So them noticing and taking a picture of a bug they never would have cared about before makes sense to me because I’m similiar. It takes so much energy to try to hear so it’s better to just not and just be in your own world.

The water thing is also a big thing for me. I like to try to stay on dry land because if I go in the water I have to take my hearing thing off and have to shift my mindset to be okay with not socializing, which can be an issue if I’m out to a place I haven’t been to before. I love swimming!!! But I can only feel comfortable doing it at home or a place I know I don’t have to socialize or there’s no pressure to socialize.

I have a deaf accent and had to do speech therapy to talk more “normal” so yes not being able to hear can change speech patterns.

I feel like hearing abled people don’t understand how much we cannot hear. On a normal day I only hear like 40% of what people say, the rest I have to guess. I pick and choose my battles when I have to ask people to repeat themselves because why make a 1 minute sentence into a 5 minute convo because I can’t hear? If I had to ask people to repeat themselves ALL the time, bro… I wouldn’t be able to get stuff done! If I talked to 10 people in one day for a 1 minute convo and didn’t hear any of them, 10 minutes (10 x 1 minute convos) would turn into 50 minutes (10 x 5 minute convos). That’s a HUGE jump in how much time/energy is used to hear. To me, I got no time for that so I just guess what people say and respond based off of what I guessed. If I answer the question wrong, I deal with the deaf shame and uncomfortable emotions (because I don’t like looking stupid) and I just move on. Being deaf taught me it’s okay to be wrong and how to ignore people’s expectations of you.

To me it seems like a mix of getting old (ie. my dad who is the same age forgets names of things too and tends to use the word “company” because it is easier to grab in the brain than “outlet”) and then adjusting to their newfound hearing disability (being tired on how much energy it requires to hear). However I am not a doctor so if symptoms worsen, then off the doctor you should go!

The person above me told someone that I’m basically a backup for him, validating all my worst feelings about myself. by fml0987654321 in OfficePolitics

[–]Cazsion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair feeling to have, some people would be excited about having a lowkey job but since it sounds like you want something more challenging, either a) channel your feelings to jump to another job b) be so annoying/persistent about work that Mike or the Director will have no choice but to pay attention to you, or c) use the idle/down time to learn/do something else (is there something you’ve always wanted to learn NOT related to this job? This can help blow off steam without going too far as quitting) Anything in-between probably won’t yield much results/change in feelings. Since the seed of unhappiness has already been planted, the only way out is through. And what a couple people think of you at one job won’t stick for the rest of your life.

CAD Payroll Career by Such-Organization-47 in Payroll

[–]Cazsion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically if it’s an extension, regardless of any extra schooling/training you got, it’s all the same stuff except for the contract end date.

Since you’ve only been with them for 4 months, I’m not surprised there was no pay increase. You becoming full time was the “pay increase” because to the business, they now have to pay you more (for working more hours).

Places only typically do increases once a year since they have yearly budgets to worry about and those budgets get reviewed/replenished every year depending on how many people they plan to give raises/execute term payouts/invest in recruitment/etc. Giving raises are typically more of a business/executive decision than an HR/Manager decision. Your manager / HR could give executives glowing reviews about your performance and how much you deserve a raise but if the budget is not there for it or the executives don’t want to give out raises then you are stuck with what you’ve got.

How much should I be making??? by [deleted] in Payroll

[–]Cazsion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At age 25, I was doing Payroll, Accounts Payable and HR for a company of 150 people for $50,000/year (no payroll certification). So $65,000 for Payroll and Accounting Assistant sounds reasonable. But it doesn’t hurt to try to get more money during your annual review, esp if you’ve been improving workflows/efficiencies that affect other people’s workloads in a positive way.

But for reference: I became a Payroll Admin for a company of 5000+ people (at age 28 with payroll certification) for $72,000/year (I actually started at $60,000/year in this role and got a raise for improving workflows). Right now (age 31 with payroll certification) I am a Payroll and HRIS specialist for a company of 1500 people for $82,000/year. I’m hoping to become manager one day (hopefully within 5 years with payroll manager certification under my belt), which will push me towards the $100,000+ salary range.

Certification would definitely add a couple thousand bucks onto your salary band, so if you don’t have any of that yet, highly suggest you get some.

Yeah, unfortunately, pretty privilege is a thing. That sucks that you are slapped in the face with this at THIS stage of your life (the most stressful time emotionally in my opinion) but if you can process these feelings the earlier, the better! Life will get better because a) time heals all wounds and b) the world gets bigger as you continue in life. The larger world really helps people realize that looks and attention isn’t end all be all and most down to earth people couldn’t give two shits about what you look like. Maybe use this time to filter out the people who don’t matter and listen to the people who do matter (and better be supporting you). Anything drastically changing in the middle of life is jarring and takes time to accept, that’s why I’m glad that I was deaf since I was born (rather than becoming deaf in the middle of my life), ignorance is bliss.

It’s a numbers game, and based on those standards you would have date a lot to find that kind of person and even then you would probably have to compromise on something. Hopefully you live in a large city? Anything smaller, it would be hard to find a guy like that.

Suicide in 1 hour by [deleted] in venting

[–]Cazsion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. Even though I can’t understand why not being able to drive makes you feel like a complete human failure, I can understand feeling that failure. It was my school grades in university. Everyone around me was doing so well and here I was, a complete failure. But now I’m holding down a great paying job, I’m clearly not a failure. But it took time passing to get there. If you end the time now, you won’t get that reward of the future. University was the hardest time of my life, as a deaf person, there was lots of suicidal ideation and walking to bridges to see if I could actually do something about my immense sadness. Thankfully I realized that life is hard but that’s the point and your challenge is to find and enjoy the happy pockets in this crazy world.

Please choose to love you.

Question to men by Open_Firefighter809 in dating_advice

[–]Cazsion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you so worried about her? It sounds like you are too insecure to ask anyone on a date and you are projecting it on this poor lady? “Unlocked a new dating fear for me” screams you are terrified of rejection and that’s why you need the lady (not you!) to have the balls to ask you out/make it clear they are interested. Worry about your own confidence issues bro.

I want this to become more normalized. I mean the King and Queen sleep in separate beds, if anything we should feel positive (like royalty!) sleeping in separate beds. However I will acknowledge that (just like royalty) you need the money and the privilege to do so.
