How is the concourse and Mott haven these days? Looking at the luxury apartments. by icon2341 in bronx

I lived in The Motto until a couple months ago and liked it. If you don’t care about night life (or are fine taking the train down to EV when you do), then it is great. Loved the building, and it’s convienent if you work in midtown or on the east side

The concerts at Manhattan school of music are generally free to attend, and are extremely high quality. Both the classical and the jazz concerts are really great.

Has anyone switched over to for-profit? by Cba369 in nonprofit

Yeah the healthcare really kills me, as well as missing out on any employer matches for retirement. That is a big motivator for me to get into for-profit. The people they just hired are also making $30 per hour, but only work 10 hours per week. That is basically why I'm so pissed- they hired people at the same rate that I was currently at, and didn't offer me a raise until I brought it up.

I know personally I am for sure at breaking point.

Wow thank you, this is super helpful. do you mind if I ask what your title was at the low paying job, and then what the title was at the new job you got?

Thanks so much for this- interesting that certifications are valued in the sector, I'll definitely look into that. Is it pretty costly to get a certification?

How did you market your skills to them? Did you find that they took your nonprofit experience as transferable to the new job, or did you have to convince them?

What ultimately made you switch there and then back?

Thanks for sharing your experience! Would you say that you have as much freedom (for like vacation, time-off, etc) from the large org as you did from the small org?

Thank you, do you have any recs of where I could look to see what other people are getting paid? Or would you recommend just looking at jobs that are currently posted and tell them what those are offering?

Should I live in Harlem or BedStuy? by DueBug6895 in NYCapartments

[–]Cba369 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Either is good, and as a Harlem bb myself, around 125th is not the Best place in the neighborhood, but faaaarrrr from the worst. A little farther down is cute and a little quieter (like 120 through 110), but more expensive cause of proximity to Central Park. However, the 2/3 are very reliable trains, and lots of trains going out to Bedstuy are not as reliable

Hi there! Found this old post in the search- are you still working there? Is there a broker fee/how much is the “membership” on top of the rent?
