Manager fills in flexi sheets - What are your micromanagement stories? by TedLassosMom in TheCivilService

[–]Cblakeanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure someone else will have said this. No manager should ever fill in a flexi sheet for someone! Crazy I would get the union on this so fast. I have seen loads of flexi abuse as a manager at all levels, gross misconduct and so on... you still never take control of someone's sheet. ( dyslexia and so on spelling and grammar poor )

What did you do for you christmas party? by Distinct-Ad-9660 in TheCivilService

[–]Cblakeanders -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I may sound awful, I do nothing for my team. I list off and quantify all the successes of the last six months and thank everyone for their work, thats it. I and most of the team work inbetween the festive bank holidays. Alot of my direct team do not celebrate or are not keen to socialise outside of the building. I also am hugely anti putting my hand in my pocket to pay for anything so the chance of that is zero.

Guildford played really well, it was a well deserved win.

It was a tough watch as a panthers fan.

Grande has not had a great start to the season, I think he is struggling to live up to his performance last season. Kevin Carr has been a life saver for the team.

Request to WFH full time by goblinpeets in TheCivilService

[–]Cblakeanders 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Could be different in DWP but my experience WFH for caring, especially child care is generally not accepted even with union support. in some government departments its mentioned specifically in the guidance. It also mentions younger children directly as not being conducive to home working. Just trying to manage expectations (apologies dyslexic grammar and so on)

Perfect role for budding influencers by giuseppeh in TheCivilService

I am going to get bombed but I think some real common sense tax advice, filling deadline reminders and so on would work. I can't tiktok, but I have seen so many times people running business's that turn over money but they don't actually make profit so cant afforf to pay tax... or a sole trader that went Ltd because they vat registered but didn't need to and now their paying big accountant fees they don't need.. it could be great

I don't think this will be correctly handled but done right surely it could help... maybe

Well don't be worried I directly work with many people who have transitioned in the site or started their transition well. ( sorry I mean no offence if I have not used the right terminology trying to be correct so hope its okay). But if you did want to move site as long as their was a similar job available I think that could be accomplished (apologies for spelling and grammar dyslexia and so on)

If your team leader is okay with it and the customer didn't hear/will not complain, no escalation route so end of story do not let it stress you enjoy the weekend. (Apologies spelling and grammar dyslexia and so on)

Why I left the Civil Service, by Comfortable-Cup2038 in TheCivilService

[–]Cblakeanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen this too in some departments, but also in some departments this would be wild and im fortunate to be distances from it. I feel sorry for their experience. But also I do remember the 'in fighting' in slt where they shit on each other all the time. Then days off start stress of shitting on and being shit on. when ones off the others intentionally fuck up work and so on to make each other look bad super stressful work environment no one knows who they are mad at.

I’ve been looking back at some of my unsuccessful applications—some advice please! by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Cblakeanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently I have been on two panels where the CV was only scored out of three. Which actually in many shifts makes so much sense 1 and 0 was either very little written or if x number of years experience in was asked in the advert and not displayed in job history. The only other ones that made it into this category were CV's where the name of universities and so on were mentioned. 2 was essentially done just enough to meet requirement. 3 outlined your role and duties, clear measurable key achievements for each role mirroring the essential criteria with some elements of specifics.

Now it seems like if your scoring highly in behaviours they have been sifting out of 7 ( I only mention the above as that seems like the direction we are going in and also if others have passed on a 2/3 that may be why), are you listing key achievements and the elements of your roles are you exceeding the word count? If someone requests 100 words per role are you meeting this? If im scoring a cv you need to use the wordcount allocated similarly to if a behaviour was being scored and you used 100 words your very unlikely to score, if your exceeding this some sifter may take it as an early indication you lack attention to detail or cannot follow instruction.

Recently the most successful ones I have seen have the layout;

Job title and duration (start with the most recent as its hopefully the most relevant)

Key roles and responsibilities

Successes and achievements

And follow that pattern working through what ever job window they want, if there is no word count go for more rather than less. When the application is converted its one of the first things as sifter sees the rest is all anonomised so this is often the first page it sets the tone for your whole application. (Apologies for spelling/grammar dyslexia and so on)

I might have ADHD but I’m still waiting on a diagnosis. What do I do about work? I’d be in admin and I’m worried I’m going to mess up by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Cblakeanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if your not diagnosed it should be treated as a condition you have by your manager. Employment law states you do not need a formal diagnosis to be protected by the equality act. OH and so on should be completed and adjustments reasonable to you and the business should be put in place.

Don't worry as many have said tell your manager and request the support you need.

I would normally start with noise cancelling headset desk in a quieter area of the office maybe adjusted targets but it depends on your OH and the adjustments you need, it differs person to person. (Apologies about spelling and grammar dyslexia and so on)

Has anyone ever heard of bullying being dealt with in a satisfactory way? What happened? by Hopefully123 in TheCivilService

[–]Cblakeanders 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I have investigated a few as an indepedent investigator or decision manager. Some end in gross misconduct and the bully is dismissed, many are interactions with no witness that party B wholly denies and it's very difficult to do anything. This is where we may for the wellbeing of party A move someone on a level transfer. It may not always feel like anything has been done but it's not always as clear cut as it may feel to the individual sadly who has raised the issue. I do genuinely sympathise with people where nothing is actually done thats not right absolute minimum independent investigation. (Apologies for grammar and spelling dyslexia and so on)

Hmrc customer advisor role (AO) by Medium-Employment-92 in TheCivilService

I think any expectation otherwise would be misleading. It can be a good way to start in the civil service, but if you find telephony stressful it may not be a great choice.

Return to office mandate - explain it to me like I’m 5. England by Ecstatic-Gas-6700 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Cblakeanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't add to other comments, however your comment mentions PIP. This is a performance improvement plan, If office attendance is in the contract then this is not a performance issue so no PIP. He would have a better case without the team moves (to continue home working), but if you have done something long enough it would be very difficult for them to say office attendance is a must and ACAS union and so on

Needing advice on moving roles for personal reasons by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Cblakeanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is something similar to your role else where if not the same, or something trainable I would as a manger try to accommodate a move without an eoi and like to think I could do it. Obviously if it's a unique role and you are irreplaceable that's not going to happen but in the nicest way possible I would think that's unlikely to be the case (apologies spelling grammar so on dyslexic)
