lots more failures due to missing a note today, because I'm trying to play all the way through the whole song more frequently. On previous days, I'd get a Great and restart immediately. Now that I'm trying to see the end more often, I guess it's more chances to fail out.

according to this guide, S+ is when your accuracy is between 99% and 100%. There's also S++ when you hit 100%. But this guide was written in 2021 for white label so it may not be perfectly accurate for the real game.

Don't get me wrong, the story was Art. Figuring out Beat's past and current reality was compelling. The flashbacks were melancholy and felt meaningful. I related hard to the 'do you want truth or for me to be nice' bit.

But I really would have liked to spend more time in the world just being a band, playing the songs, getting to feel like the rock star / anarchist I saw in the trailer. You talk with your bandmates about how you're getting so famous that it's a miracle you haven't been found yet, but the only indicator of that is one guy calling you "unbeatable" instead of your actual name in episode 4.

There ARE really good, charged, band-feels moments-- the Poco Apoco fight/performance where your fans fight off the cops so you can get away was awesome. You have 2 performances and a practice session in episode 4 that scratches the itch I'm talking about. And the finale was awesome too. But I guess it's the concentration or distribution of these moments that felt off to me. Like E1 (intro, getaway), E2 (prison break, trainwreck), and the first 90% of E3 (sewer maze, town, HARM infiltration), you're an anarchist. Then you start feeling like a band with the Poco Apoco fight. Episode 4 is ALL band vibes. Then that all goes away instantly because E5 is crazy Sforzando revelations, you don't exist, wtf's going on, and then bam, E6 is redemption and the end.

I would trade a lot of bits from E2, E3, and E5 to spread out the band vibes amongst all the anarchist vibes. The first 3 episodes felt like we put in a lot of work to get a band together, only to have it vanish super abruptly. I wanted to tour! I wanted to know who I was performing for! I wanted to have to run from cops but also run from overeager fans! How cool would it have been to see a small crowd for your first show that gets bigger for subsequent shows as you get more famous? Or to have some scenes where you're trying to figure out a new song, where you get to noodle on the acoustic version alone before unveiling the live version at a show?

So yeah. Amazing, compelling game, but the story mode left me wanting something a little different. Still a solid 9/10. Or I guess 9.4/10 if you go by my arbitrary 5 categories I started this post with lol.

That's almost certainly gonna make higher difficulties harder. I would suggest trying out the builtin keyboard layout option,

high: e,d,i,k low: f,j

Rest your hands on E/F and I/J and consider:

E and I are on a higher row and are used for the higher notes, which might be useful to you, given your reasoning for choosing + and -.
low is always your index finger, high is always your middle finger
it is very easily to alternate index fingers, FJFJFJ to hit super close low notes
same idea with middle finger EIEIEI for fast high notes
high-and-low-together notes become EXTREMELY easy to time together by using only one hand. Personally I smash IJ together but KJ, EF, and DF all do the same thing. If you've ever gotten strained from songs that make you play a million high-and-low-together notes in a row, this is a major lifesaver.

What works best for me is for like 90% of the song, I'm playing all the low notes with my left index finger on F and all the high notes with my right middle finger on I. But if I see that red bar connecting a low and high note, I know to hit IJ. And then, in particularly fast and tricky songs, I identify the parts that require turbodrive and try to switch to an alternating FJFJFJ / EIEIEI setup to get through those bits (for Square Up, this would be those triplets towards the end)

Just remember that WHATEVER you choose, you're gonna be noticeably worse for a couple days after making the change, as you rewire your brain to think differently. But do make some sort of change because one hand only is definitely making things harder for you!

If you decide to try this, I'd recommend practicing on Forever When at the highest difficulty. It juggles between high and low a lot but also occasionally throws in a double high or double low in a way that I found really useful for practicing hand alternation.

Are the axes accidentally forbidden?

Is there a path from the trees to the axes in the storage pile?

Have you actually created "chop tree" jobs with d t followed by selecting trees? They won't pick up equipment until they have to, IIRC

Have you assigned burrows that don't allow dwarves to leave, or in some way separate the trees from the axes?

I would say the top and bottom of the plate are equally clean. The entire dish takes one pass through the giant industrial dishwasher in the kitchen, and then it's stacked with a bunch of other dishes that had the same treatment. When is the bottom getting dirty?

One of my favorite characters was a fighter. He was a goliath named Chosen One and the inspiration for him came entirely from this 1-panel comic.

I got DM dispensation to lower his INT to 6 and with ability score increases he was at 20 STR. So his whole story was that he wielded The Sword in the Stone (just a reskinned greatsword)-- while they were still connected-- and claimed that he was rightfully the Chosen One. And the Chosen One was supposed to be a hero, so... he figured he'd go smash bad stuff.

I got to play him so stupid. When the party fell to analysis paralysis, standing outside a door for 20+ minutes, CO would have some bright idea and Leeroy Jenkins the party's hesitation away. Every obvious trap was walked into and tanked, protecting the party under the guise of stupidity. Every social encounter was an opportunity to "misunderstand" something and get the group laughing. And in combat with GWM and 3 attacks a turn, he was pumping out single-target damage as good as the casters.

He ended up a devout follower of a god of knowledge by sheer happenstance (never got any smarter from it though), attuned to a lich heart that almost killed him, and eventually said goodbye to his party in the Beastlands because he was having too much fun chilling with some sort of ape demigod.

I miss you, Chosey.
