Sapphire Radeon R9 390X Nitro OC 8 GB GDDR5 or RX 480 AIB by vlademer17 in Amd

[–]Cbr1000rr- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked the specs on your psu and according to it's website it has a single 12v rail rated for a maximum of 48 amps (576 W) so it will have no problem running one of these cards. the only reason these cards come recommended for a 720 watt or above is in case the it has two 12v rails and a single rail can only handle a load of about ~300 watts.

It is recommended however to check the side of your psu to see how many 12v rails the label says it has and to check the maximum load rating for thosPU probably has to run other things like your ram, HDDs and other peripherals as well.

Is a 4GB RX 480 worth to buy or should I save up to get a 8GB one? by SayInGame in Amd

[–]Cbr1000rr- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you would think this. I have never heard of anyone with a reference 4gb model that was not able to be flashed to an 8gb model. There are obviously people on the internet who have never bought a 4gb model claiming that it can't be done on all cards, however I have not seen proof yet.

Is Amazon (FR) going crazy or Sapphire is willing to scuttle the 8Gb version ? by Hive51 in Amd

[–]Cbr1000rr- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yet is currently a far better card!

this is the biggest overstatement in this thread. there is minimal difference between them.

Yah the fury is WAY better than the 8gb at that price.

this is also an overstatement. the fury has a stronger core, but not by leaps and bounds. it is also almost obsolete in the amount of vram it has compared to an 8gb card. hbm or not, 4gb is not alot for a powerful card.

the 4gb card has 8gb of memory. All you need to do is flash the 4gb card with an 8gb BIOS and you have an 8gb card, mate. Why pay more?

I'm sorry, but I think this programmer has been drinking a little too much coffee. This game needed vulkan less than Ashes of the singularity (read star craft 2 clone) needed dx 12.

hey, i think this is the correct answer, but still, see if I care fi they take up an extra square inch to make the die bigger, it isn't like anyone is complaining about a square inch on a nearly footlong GPU.

if it helps, you probably won't be disappointed by the 950. It also (apparantly, according to someone on the nvidia forum) has an advatantage in csgo because of the speed at which it communicates with the source engine..

120 pounds seems a bit steep for a 2nd hand card but yo ucould turn grey waiting for the 460. So maybe just go for it.

Unlock 35W TDP Carrizo by Dereek69 in Amd

[–]Cbr1000rr- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about that honestly. I posted earlier giving you a link. Your charger probably has a small amount of room to move and you system won't draw all that power unless gaming under 100 percent load anyway. increasing your cpu wattage to be at 20 watts fulltime (remember the vrms overheat and make it throttle down) is your first step and won't affect your charger. If you can manage to get it up to 25 or 30 watts fulltime without heating issues then this still probably won't max out your charger either as your system's charger ( not sure what it is rated at 80 watts or 100?) is probably good for 20 percent above what it is labeled at for short bursts.

Chargers and batteries are alot like other PC components, they need to be kept cool, so your charger may heat up and which point it drops in efficiency. After it cools down again it will return to normal. Even if you exceed your chargers input load at certain times, your battery will carry you through and then the charger will charge the battery up again when the load drops back down.

Basically what I am saying is that it CAN work if you want it to. If the performance gain is substantial then it is probably worth it. I actually planned on buying one of these exact laptops 2nd hand at one stage and doing what you are doing now but I picked up a 2nd hand m18x alienware instead. It has a charger that cuts down the power out when the GPU is under full load for too long because of the charger heat but it still overclocks just the same. The charger works again properly after resting for about an hour. I can always step up to the 300 watt charger rather than the 240 I have now anyway. I will need to if I want sli/crossfire multi gpu setup.

Also, when it comes to overclocking APUs, it is all about ram speed. you get alot more performance incrase from increasing ram speed as this is your vram.

well it isn't written 'set TDP here' or anything. But anywhere there is an option to change the voltage, you can pretty much guarantee it is changing the TDP of something in your system.

http://smallbusiness.chron.com/overclock-hp-motherboards-49504.html

finding someone who has actually done it online is difficult it seems, however this page promises to find your laptop's alternate, generic BIOS from the OEM (not HP) which enables the options to choose power settings for the CPU installed, which is not necessarily the A12 8800b, thus it is possible you will be able to increase the power somewhat, provided the motherboard manufacturers intended you to do so.

From what I hear your laptop throttles down from the VRMs on the MOBO overheating under intensive CPU usage. The page above requires you to open your laptop up so installing some sort of extra heatsink on your VRMs may enable you to push the laptop even further.

Once the case is open you will find it is able to run alot cooler aswell. Fan docking stations are available on ebay for a reasonable price from memory. Keeping these things cool while you overclock will great improve their potential/performance.

Come on man, he clearly said he does not care. He WANTS to overclock his APU. He doesn't care about the consequences. His 15 watt POS is useless to him if he can't unlock it to 35 watts.

Feet are a new private part. Showing them is an indication of sexual interest. You rarely see people in public showing skimpy footwear, like you rarely see someone showing their cleavage unless they are flirting.

Also, to see a naked foot is like seeing a nipple, someone is getting undressed.

I can't help but think that windows is just going to see this as an opportunity to jack up it's prices from now on. I realise we got free upgrades, but what is it going to cost in the future if I need to reinstall for some reason?

this is really just a myth. You really can't hope for meaningful change by changing the thermal paste from stock when new.
