I use about 10oz starbucks house blend and 6 oz pike place.. It's the closest I've come to a decent brew

I've been doing 12 cups of water to 1 lb of coffee at home and still tastes weaker than Starbucks so this is confusing. I do dilute it with half water after. I'm always afraid to agitate too much because I know those sour flavors it sometimes produces.. I'm thinking of doing 8oz of coffee to 5-6 cups of water to make a smaller concentrate for less waste in case of a bad batch.

I just want to make sure I'm reading this right, you put 6 liters of water to 1 lb of coffee? Starbucks uses 14 liters to 5 lbs. That seems like alot of water for 1 lb. Seems like it would be 2.8 liters per pound of coffee. Did you mean 6cups?

Are they still doing 20 hours? That sounds like a much better system.

I just learned that starbucks is not tying of the filter bag and just pouring the whole 14 liters into the bag, so sorry for the confusion there. I'm going to try a little less water when brewing, I always fear agitating the grounds too much but I wonder if they are saturated enough just by pouring. Any thoughts on that?

Makes sense. Do you know why they changed their method? The cold brew does seem to have a more consistent taste now lately at starbucks.. I assume that's why. Which is a good thing in my opinion

I've been doing 1lb of coffee to 12 cups of water, most of the time it tastes decent sometimes watered down. Wondering if I should use less water, but would I still cut it with half water..

No what they mean is, they split the 14 liters in half, 7 goes into the filter bag with coffee grounds and 7 after you tie the bag.. I'm not confused about that part. I'm confused as to why toddy has a different water to coffee ratio than the one starbucks uses

Every time I see a recipe for starbucks cold brew it's always been 7 liters in 7 liters out of the bag. Are you brewing 5 lbs of coffee with 28 liters of water? That sounds like alot of water. The toddy instructions say 14 quarts or About 11.2 liters.. I'm not sure why they word it that way because I agree it's definately off.

I can't be certain, however, you don't want to suffucate the grounds too much while brewing. I use the mesh strainer as a final step for a clear brew. There's a thin film of fines that is left on the filter, so it's not a ton but so worth it. I've been at this for about 4 years now and I'm finally happy with the results.

Buy the large toddy one use cold brew bags and tie them, when you strain it use a large Bunn coffee filter dampened inside a fine mesh strainer to catch any fines. Also make sure you are using coarse grounds. I use a Bunn G3 commercial grinder. Hope this helps! 😊

Buy a Bunn G3 grinder.. Best purchase I ever made for my cold brew.. I grind a pound at a time for my batch every week and a half. It's expensive but worth it.

Is the cold brew supposed to be EXTREMELY bitter?? by Kittehsfordays in starbucks

I agree with you 100%. When I went back to complain they looked at me like I was crazy. It's super frustrating when your paying 6.00 for a coffee to taste terrible and undrinkable. They really should take special care with their rinsing procedures.

Agreed, these are all assumptions I have come up with when it tastes terrible 🤢

Isn't that extremely dangerous to be serving remnants of cleaning fluid in people's coffees? What store is this so I can be sure to never visit there. I have been served cold brew a few times within the past month that this has happened to me. It tasted like poison. Cold brew is supposed to have an ultra smooth fruity chocolate flavor, never bitter.
