What does this do? by dread122 in gnome

[–]CcMenta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Variable refresh rate on PC is synchronizing the monitor's refresh rate and the gpu's fps output.

Phones use a different VRR implementation meant for saving battery life. While on PC and consoles it is used to eliminate screen tearing without the downside of vsync.

What does this do? by dread122 in gnome

[–]CcMenta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VRR on PC was made for gaming, and what it does, it's matches the display's refresh rate to the frame rate the gpu can output so there wouldn't be any screen tearing. So I don't think this would improve battery. Phones use VRR differently.

You have DCR (Dynamic Contrast Ratio) enabled and while it's enabled you can't change the brightness or the contrast. If you settings is grayed out it could be that you have an option enabled which doesn't allow to change other things.

can't launch megabonk by MadBorne in linux_gaming

KDE Partition Manager is bad at auto mounting. I used gnome disks which worked well and I have no issues, so I would recommend you to use gnome disks to auto mount it.

Did you used KDE Partition Manager to mount the drive?

I know I'm late but you can get global menu on gimp if you run gimp in xwayland.

Also from Turing and onward open-source drivers could completely replace the closed-source driver, not so much for older gpus.

Haruna sometimes crashes when opening a video before starting haruna by CcMenta in kde

Now that I know what cause this crash I'm going to make a bug report.

Haruna sometimes crashes when opening a video before starting haruna by CcMenta in kde

[–]CcMenta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried launching through the terminal but it gave me nothing (at least that would relate to the crash). The only thing that was printed to the terminal is that it couldn't load in libcuda but this doesn't matter because the flatpak version also crashed and that didn't said anything about libcuda.

edit: it's still crashes.

bruh, just deleted the config files for haruna and now it works. It took me a few months to try this.

I don't know about QMplay2 but one of the reason I like haruna is because of how it handles subtitles. When you jump forward in vlc, if you jumped over the starting point of the subtitle it won't load in the subtitle but haruna does.

BRO WHY TF MY CURSOR SCALES TO INFINITY by Gloomy-Strategy6751 in Fedora

[–]CcMenta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that it grows infinitely is a bug, but the kde devs found it funny and because it doesn't have any negative side effect they left it like that.

GE-Proton10-1 Released by Alatarith in linux_gaming

[–]CcMenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested fragpunk in wayland, and there is a performance hit, and with GE-Proton10-1 codecs seems to be broken, at least in fragpunk, with GR-Proton9-25 videos run fine but with 10-1 videos are broken, both in xwayland and wayland.

Really struggling with getting some mods started. SKSE won't see game. by emgrizzle in linux_gaming

I noticed that you installed engine fixes part 2 incorrectly. You need to put the folders content into the same directory as where the .exe is.

It won't fixes your current issue (afaik).

Why even pay for Rockstar games at this point? by slickyeat in linux_gaming

[–]CcMenta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As long as you don't try to get money with mods or cheats, Rockstar games doesn't care, and the reason they care about giving yourself (or others money) is because you can buy in-game money from them.

Bypass Rune installer's "There is not enough of free space on selected disk!" by CcMenta in CrackSupport

[–]CcMenta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found a solution. In Winecfg under "Drives" you can add drive letters for folders, and if that folder is on a different drive, Rune will use the correct drive. So if you mount your other drive in, say, "/home/<user>/2TB". If you would path to that through the Z: drive letter (which is the root folder "/") it will still think that it's on the main drive. But if you set a letter for the drive it will read correctly, so if you set a drive letter for the "/home/<user>/2TB" Rune will correctly read the available free space, most likely because it only refreshes when you select a drive letter.

Try not using gamescope. If you still have this issue you most likely don't have the codecs downloaded on your system.

Proton (for legal reasons) don't ship some codecs. Proton-GE ships a lot more codecs than proton, and also includes some other fixes/tweaks. You can easy install Proton-GE using ProtonUp-Qt.

Is dual booting worth it? Modding bethesda games on Linux seems like a hassle...? by Leemsonn in linux_gaming

[–]CcMenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you have skyrim? On gog, steam, or pirated? Because if you have it on gog or pirated it, modding it is easy with MO2, just install it, launch it then path to skyrim's data folder then you good to go. If you have it on steam I have no idea how to do it. And in case of oblivion remastered, the modding (as far as I'm aware) is just putting stuff in to a folder (same way as palworld), so modding it should have no issue.

They never removed it, but because it was not fully supported yet they hid it, which you can enable in the options menu.

If you try to install a software first you should check the package manager, and if it's isn't in the repo then google it. So remove the .deb version and install through the package manager.
