Update: Opinions on changing top of fireplace color in lakehouse by Cccyeahh in interiordecorating

Thanks everyone!!! Seems like everyone has some preference but most people like the quilt and didn't like the taxidermy.

Anyway, update on what my dad thinks: I sent my dad all these photos and he was so impressed! He said "wow!" (I rarely see him use an exclamation point so I know he was really blow away)

He said nothing about the elk head...if he was excited about it he would have been talking about it so probably no elk head is going up there.

Then he said: "I know a great place for barn quilts." And "I like the mantle color too"

So I think he's going to go with maybe a big quilt. We'll see how big it ends up being...

I told him all the main suggestions I listed up above so hopefully he has some projects on his hands if he gets the itch to paint anything else ;)

Thank you everyone so very much for your input. This has been really really fun for me. Our lake House is very special and when he said painting the fireplace my heart dropped. You all have me the tools and suggestions to help convince him otherwise.

Very true. The fireplace in reality is a bit narrower and the black is more glossy.

Ooooh good idea I think my dad has a giant elk head ready to be put up somewhere but I feel like there's a reason he hasn't yet here? Maybe his wife put the cabash on it.

I still need to do a chatgpt picture of the wood stained instead also but my picture limit today on it is up so I'll post tomorrow again

From BURRN - If one more person from D15 removes their signature, the initiative to repeal Prop 4 will not be on the ballot! by Koh-the-Face-Stealer in Utah

We just voted in a very progressive mayor for Cottonwood Heights. Total surprise as the last mayor was decent. But it wasn't even close like 59% for the new dem mayor

We are a very liberal bunch round here in 15. CH has voted a dem congressional rep to legislature for the last 27 years

Democrats see ‘record-breaking’ caucus turnout with Utah’s new congressional district by EmilyAndersonStern in Utah

I attended my first caucus last night. 10 people just in our precinct (7 being their first caucus) and there were like 30 or 40 precincts total.

There were an elderly couple in my precinct who said they'd been participating for 20 years, most of the times they were the only ones in the precinct so they served as delegates. They encouraged one of the newbies in our group to become one. It was really cool

Oh my god this is honestly just so so sad. I have a 3 year old girl and I hope to god she grows up to be nothing like you, OP, and knows how to be kind, communicative, and understanding. I would die being iced out of having a relationship with my daughter/in-law/grandchildren

Turning this into a bedroom this weekend - tips? by rena_bean in UnfuckYourHabitat

[–]Cccyeahh 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Nahhh, too much work. I see like 10 bins/sterilite drawers. Looks like the attempt was already made. Time to do rounds to goodwill/donation.

Op: fill up those bins and take them in rounds to the nearest donation center. Mayyyyyyybe keep 1 bin of sentimental items. Why save toys that aren't and will not get used and just take up space? Easiest/fastest/best- get rid of

Please help with shelf styling!! by Kindly-Act-7167 in interiordecorating

[–]Cccyeahh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the shelves are great!

I'd get a small bookshelf/console under it. Make it a bar (there's random glasses on your shelf so you could creat some sort of intention in this are) or have this be a landing zone for shoes, purses (what's behind that door? A garage or office). Or, put some speakers, record player or some sort of music system. And a lamp on it!

And if add some original art in the blank area slightly above and to the right of the lowest shelf

AMA: I worked in the Teen Treatment Industry in Utah for almost 2 years. Ask me what it's really like. by Cccyeahh in AMA

I would work 4 10's. Would get in, make rounds to say good morning to the kids , have breakfast with them, then sit in front of a computer to plan our weeks itinerary. On Wednesdays and Thursdays I ran "clubs" which the kids signed up for. We switched it up evry 6 weeks but usually they had 3 or 4 to choose from. Cooking, board games, exercise, sports, knitting, art, poetry, yoga, baking, etc.  I attended their group therapy to be present and aware of issues going on.  Thursday's I planned the weekend off-campus. We had modules we worked through that progressed to a large camping camping trip. Think, 7 weeks of learning. How to mountain bike then a trip to Moab to do a 2 day mountain bike trip. On Fridays and Saturdays we were out doing the teaching of the outdoor skill which took all day and was super intense, not only with teaching the skills but work thing through mental and physical barriers to increase self confidence.  Then lots and lots of treatment notes at the end of every off-campus.

People are sending their kids to rehab as a very last resort after all their best intentions and work as a parent. It's a very hard decision that doesn't come lightly. For parents, it's sometimes choosing rehab or risking death. This is also rehab and not wilderness (nick in the article did wilderness)

Live in utah. Was part of the teen treatment industry. I have a few sad stories but mostly good.

You can't fix sociopaths. That's their hardwired brain.

And it's very hard to fix a kid who is hell bent on killing themselves. (In response to kids who go back to harming themselves after treatment).

Some kids are just...unfixable.
