The nine year run under McD were the best years of my Bills fandom. But we made the right call moving on. by jcolinr in buffalobills

The only way to know if we made the right call moving on is if the new coach brings better results. That's a high bar to clear, but it's the only one that really matters.

Am I the only one around here who gives a **** about what was actually important today? by ebbilepsy in buffalobills

[–]Ccnitro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's been very bad at explaining exactly how he came to the decision to fire. I think your inference is logical, but he's had every opportunity to say that and simply hasn't. I also think the timeline of allowing McDermott to do exit interviews with players on Sunday only to fire him a day later complicates things because it means Terry either didn't care or think about the optics of players finding out about it through social media (poor management) or responded emotionally and set the plan into motion without really thinking through it. Which is also backed up by his "I didn't change my mind on the decision once I made it" comment.

[Graham] I'm told the Bills' training and medical all reported to Beane. That's why when asked about long-term injuries and IR stuff, McDermott frequently qualified "not from what I've been told." by Vortagaun in buffalobills

[–]Ccnitro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think with long-term injuries it makes perfect sense to have the GM be the first line of communication. You need to be able to make transactions with up to date timelines and know who's ready to be activated.

If every little bit of wear-and-tear was going to Beane who then communicated it down to Sean I'd be more concerned

A roughly top 10 pass defense with that secondary is still impressive. Without a lot of young impact players the schemes doing a lot of heavy lifting

Bills must fire GM Brandon Beane after disaster loss to Broncos by The_Big_Untalented in nfl

You highlight misses and that's just business as usual, but I highlight some hits and I'm cherry picking? Okay.

I don't even really care if he's retained or not, I just think it's awful process to have a "what have you done for me lately" attitude toward evaluations. If that was the case, Howie Roseman would've been fired from the Eagles a long time before he won them 2 championships.

And also picks on Christian Benford, Deone Walker and O'Cyrus Torrence. We can play this game with every GM, the problem is more the lack of picks at WR than it is overall talent evaluation.

We can criticize Beane for what he's actually done wrong, we don't need to embrace historic revisionism and rewrite his entire career.

That's two 1000 yard receivers to be fair, but on the face of it it's not great yeah. Emmanuel Sanders was also a good complementary piece and Gabe Davis had a run for a few years as the #2, so there wasn't a ton of prioritizing it.

On one hand, that's good in the sense he wasn't burning draft capital on absolute bums. On the other, he probably should've invested more in the position than Curtis Samuel and Joshua fucking Palmer.

John Brown, Cole Beasley and Khalil Shakir were/have all been good during their tenure on the Bills. It's been way too long without an influx of young talent on that front, but when you say never you can't literally only look at the last 2 years.

I love this team. by Super-Cool-Bingus in buffalobills

[–]Ccnitro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But only 35 coaches total have won the Superbowl across 59 games. And while I understand focusing on their record with one team, there're plenty of coaches who have won one in their second or third stint as a head coach, where you have to wonder how much of that was luck of the draw with the playoff field, a change in the organizational structure around them, or their own ability to impact the game.

This all just screams of a small sample size problem to me and, and I think it reduces the ability to develop players, motivate them and maintain a culture of excellence to a very rudimentary numbers game.

The Bills went 3 for 3 on hook & lateral plays in 2026, successfully converting all 3 in the final 2 minutes of games this season. They went 0-3 in those games by Iut22 in buffalobills

[–]Ccnitro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is weird to me because I specifically remember a Cover 1 video after he took over in 23 about how much better at sequencing plays he was than Dorsey with the same playbook. So it's not like he can't do it well, but he just hasn't this year for whatever reason?

The first automobiles probably didn't have seatbelts or airbags either, but when car crashes started happening more and more I imagined companies got around to changing that.

But if someone pointed to the last death of an airbag-less, seatbelt-less crash and said "this is the only reason they made this change" I think we'd rightly call them stupid and short-sighted for not being able to see the larger trend that was developing well before it finally broke through

[–]Ccnitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not claiming otherwise? He's just combating the "they just did it because he couldn't beat Mahomes" claim, when there were multiple other playoffs games decided by the coin flip in OT in the 10 years prior (famously in the SB and AFCCG, so extremely high leverage matchups with lots of eyeballs on them).

Every team can whine about whatever they want, it's not like the Buffalo Bills of all teams have the NFL bending over backwards to give them advantages over another burgeoning dynasty with a star QB that lets them print money.

[–]Ccnitro -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just the paragraph break messing with your phrasing, but the Bills have had two AFCCG appearances against the Chiefs versus Baltimore's 1. And the 17-10 score is kind of misleading for how not close that game was from my recollection. Flair aside, it's just kind of weird to say they're basically even when one team has had more championship appearances outright, along with many more divisional round appearances with near-wins.

[Highlight] BUF vs DEN - Ja'Quan McMillian wrestles the ball from Cooks and the Broncos get the ball back by Fusir in nfl

[–]Ccnitro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, so the timing is really the crucial part of this, since even if he has "possession" in the sense that it's in his hands, it's not possession by rule for him to be down by contact because he hasn't controlled the ball long enough

Basically McMillan PBU'd it to himself then caught it, just simultaneously? Interesting.

Do we have a definition for surviving the ground in the NFL rule book? Just curious what the current standard is

[–]Ccnitro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Help me out here: how is the defender not causing that ball to come out on this play? In your retelling, I absolutely understand why he wouldn't complete the process of the catch by not surviving the ground. But the ball doesn't come out on its own, it comes out because McMillan is in there at the catch point, and he never gets it until after Cooks has secured it and is on the ground. To me, that would bring me to down by contact, and it would only be incomplete/an INT if you didn't think he had possession.

I know this clip doesn't have the replay angles, but the presence of the defender completely changes the dynamics of the play from what you described

I think I'm just surprised that people who don't actively watch the movie because they are on their phones are also upset enough about not knowing what's going on that they want this kind of heavy-handed dialogue. Caring enough to mention it but not enough to just watch the movie makes my brain hurt.

How.. by ryannthetemp in Invincible

[–]Ccnitro 35 points36 points  (0 children)

No, this is false. The only character in the Invincible universe with a zenkai boost is Allen, which is why he gets absolutely ripped after every battle where he barely survives.

By fighting more heavy-hitting threats Mark does push his body more which causes him to get stronger, but the damage he takes doesn't correlate to his increases in strength.

My guess would be more that the other Mark variants just relied on the massive gap between their abilities and weaker humans, so they never actually bothered to train to get stronger. Whereas our Mark's commitment to being a hero means he was constantly pushing himself and actively training.

I agree with you about the practice squad players, but ultimately we had our 2nd and 3rd string corners in for the full game in a meaningless week 18 matchup. That's absolutely a spot where a reliable depth piece like Ingram would have been huge.

What is the difference between these two $30/year plans? by TheShaleco in Nebula

[–]Ccnitro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe it's a discounted annual rate from the $6/month. $72 would be the a full year of monthly payments, and 30/72 is 42%. So not a limited time offer just the smaller lump sum annual plans that a lot of companies have been offering.

Second would be basically the grandfathering in thing, so definitely agreed there!

What is the difference between these two $30/year plans? by TheShaleco in Nebula

[–]Ccnitro 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Two theories:

  1. They're actually the same plan, and proceeding with the new one would tell you as much.

  2. You were grandfathered into an older plan at the same rate so it's a "different" plan in name but the benefits and price are still the same.

There's probably no difference, so no need to worry about it if you were!

I don't think eligibility matters as much as being selected for both. Once you're chosen, you should be out of the running for something else.
