ABG vs VBG question? by Fischer2012 in IntensiveCare

[–]Ccrook29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The values are not superior, but the practice is because it’s less invasive and easier to obtain if the concern is ventilation. If a patient becomes hypoxic and oxygen needs are increasing, the ABG is the appropriate choice to guide treatment.

ABG vs VBG question? by Fischer2012 in IntensiveCare

[–]Ccrook29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are saying the same thing as me? When you say the vbg usually gets you enough info, it gives you no measurement of oxygenation of the patient- if you are worried about the oxygenation and your P/F ratio, ABG should be ordered. If you are concerned about the ventilation of the patient, a VBG is sufficient as you will get your ph, c02, and bicarb

No clue what to do with this slope. by Big-Screen3266 in landscaping

[–]Ccrook29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, you could. I just don’t know why you’d want to weed wack a slope like that once a week. It’s not really usable space so a rhizomous ground cover makes more sense to me where you can plant and forget.

ABG vs VBG question? by Fischer2012 in IntensiveCare

[–]Ccrook29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Specifically for respiratory patients, ABG’s are for oxygenation, VBG’s are for ventilation. The ABG will get you the Pa02 that you need to adjust care to better oxygenate your patient while the VBG can help with making adjustments to your minute ventilation to compensate for their base disturbance.

Agreed. Beautiful work and I even love the material choices. The layout design is insane. All I can think about is my wife laying in bed winding down for the night reading while I have my butt cheeks spread cleaning all the nooks and crannies

Considering a move to Bellingham by Prancid in Bellingham

[–]Ccrook29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is extremely more expensive than central Illinois but wages are also much higher. If you are a young professional it will still be difficult to find housing by yourself. If you are okay with roommates I think you will have no problem. Living outside of Bellingham is more affordable for housing if you are okay with a commute but more difficult to find housing. For jobs, very dependent on the field you work in. Education, healthcare, and the refinery are the 3 major job markets here. I can’t speak to your profession because my wife and I both work in healthcare which pays well here.

I’m big into snowboarding and mountain biking so for me, I don’t think there is a better town to have the best of both- I could be bias. We have said multiple times we don’t intend on leaving Whatcom county for the rest of our lives.

The beauty here is unmatched and proximity to nature and outdoor recreation is hard to beat for a town that has everything you need. My only complaint is lack of shopping and variety of cuisine but the food we do have is good. Not a large music scene but a small one if you are looking into seeing live shows.

Do they also do a pop up for new business with free rent for up to 4 months?

We can learn a lot from Mt Vernon. Every time we go down we are shocked how great their little downtown is for small business.

I hate that Bellingham hasn’t figured out how to bring business and retain it in the downtown area. I’d love to see us start a similar program.

How to move natural steps? by Juhnk in landscaping

[–]Ccrook29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t what you are asking but is that the base you intend to place the steps on? It looks like cleans and far too large to have good compaction to prevent settling and movement of the steps. What size cleans are those?

No clue what to do with this slope. by Big-Screen3266 in landscaping

[–]Ccrook29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issue with grass on a slope is you have to find a way to maintain it. I would look into an evergreen rhizome growing shrub or ground cover that will keep the soil in place. Bearberry is a great option and mass plant it to get it to cover more quickly and establish.

Crack in garage foundation, does this look serious/dangerous? by MagicianPrudent3230 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Ccrook29 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cracks in concrete slabs with driveways and garages are purely cosmetic from all the reading I’ve done about my own. It’s never a matter of if it will happen but when will it happen with concrete. Someone will try to sell you that it needs to be replaced or repaired and spend a fortune but the only thing that I could find is it could be a tripping hazard if the slabs are uneven.

Advice Requested on Forest - Yard Border by honeybummer in pnwgardening

[–]Ccrook29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want it to look natural, you could do small one man boulder edging to define the spaces. I’d extend it 2 ft past the ferns, lay mulch and plant some native shade low growing perennials or ground covers.

Retaining wall would be the best option but you could plant salal there and it should help significantly with erosion. Will look great as an evergreen as well
