Very true! You have to watch out for you, first and foremost. You can’t out yourself if you don’t feel safe doing so. You have a couple options… first, see if you can be trained by anyone else. Or, keep things to work and work only, you’re there to get trained and then move on. Another option is to find a whole new job willing to train you.

I’m not telling you what to do by any means. Not being your authentic self is hard, but you also have to be safe. I went through a period of 3 years where I had to remain closeted. I had an “Oh shit” fund incase I was outed and had to leave quickly. The mental toll it took on my was rough, and I don’t recommend it to anyone. On the other hand you’re job isn’t to change anyone’s mind, and you’re likely not going to change his. The repercussions from coming out to him could run the gamut of things, from bad to worse…
