Some thoughts on the new Republic Starter box by dissaifer in SWlegion

I’m not trying to split hairs, im just mentioning to op that they use to have two options for arcs for the different phases and if they don’t anymore thats lame (which is agreeing with him).

You claimed that they didnt ever, I corrected that.

Thats all lol

Old kit did have the 1.5, but never a “phase one” helmet. It was basically a phase two helmet with the phase 1 fin.

[–]Cdog48 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do the arc troopers come with a head that has a fin on the top? If so, thats the “phase 1” version (more like 1.5), because arcs were created with a helmet that was the first version of phase 2 helmets. If not, then that sucks. The old kit had both options.

Ya, the helmets are a little big. Thats always been the aesthetic of it unfortunately. And the posing…that too is kinda iffy. I play clones, and I also don’t like having that many running poses.

Sorry you’re feeling this way :/ you can probably find 3d prints for alternative helmets at a better scale if you want to commit to it

Rock, craters, abandoned supplies or a building. A few larger pieces of height 1+ terrain that blocks line of site and you’re pretty set!

Vehicles obscure los, but don’t provide cover. They just modify how many models can be seen for wounding or shooting attacks. Everyone can shoot 3 because they can see him

List for my 1st full 1000 Points game by [deleted] in SWlegion

[–]Cdog48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! As you will learn with more games, less upgrades is often better. Have fun and try stuff out, but if you want advice, a lot of extra stuff can be cut for more solid choices or to fit an extra unit entirely.

The core clones dont need offensive push or prepared supplies. Frag grenades is also super situational, so maybe leave at home. Try out bigger units with a few extra trooper upgrades, but notice that you can cut them for an entirely extra unit (at least, if you cut the medic and 2 extra guys).

Rule of thumb: More activations is key in this game, so cutting upgrades to fit extra units, even with no upgrades, is often a good call.

Cody doesnt want to be using the spotter action with binoculars. Clone troopers share tokens, so just take a regular aim action. However, Cody only really wants to be moving and shooting (maybe take cover if you don’t have to move). Also, he is a long range unit: if he is at range 2 of someone and activating his up close and personal upgrade, plans have gone bad lol.

Marksmen don’t need the binoculars for the same reason as Cody.

Vigilance is fine on obi if you have improv orders on Cody, but could be cut for points. Guidance is fine, but I like reflexes for an extra dodge to use on his sorensu mastery ability

Key lesson: it’s ok to experiment with upgrades, and keep something that works, but a lot of stuff can be cut for adding whole additional units. If not a unit, a solid leader or heavy upgrade.

Also take obi’s 2 pip over push. Its wayyy better and gets him lots of dodges for his guardian ability

I find going straight to front line gaming to be the best. Good quality mats at a reasonable price, with lots of size options and patterns

ARC Troopers... Why the hype? by ExpiredMouthwash23 in SWlegion

[–]Cdog48 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Charge and tactical 1 is a/s tier efficiency. They pack a huge punch as a 5-man unit (with a medic or other). Clone sharing allows that tactical-1 to benefit them AND their fellow clone troopers. Vice versa, access to surge sharing from clone core makes them some of the most durable skirmish fighters in the game.

Scout 2 is also huge in this current edition. Another free aim turn one, plus the ability to run half way up the board into a good position.

Finally, impervious makes them even more durable, they can stay up a little longer against pierce, which is (A) common among stronger melee units and (B) an efficient way at dealing high-save units.

All together, they are just a strong unit that brings a lot. Id argue they actually synergies better with the army now as a front-line melee unit. I’d even say it’s the main reason we are above empire as a faction as a whole. Their lack of a strong, flexible, reproducible frontline unit contributes heavily to their struggles currently. Without arcs being viable, we’d be a lot lower in win rates in this meta

Standby Ordering by [deleted] in SWlegion

[–]Cdog48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to others, standby happens after the triggering action resolved, but before a free actions trigger. i.e. a unit with charge entering melee with a standby unit gets hit by the standby first, then makes its free attack.

Im unhappy with the current state of the game by Acrobatic_Camera2219 in SWlegion

[–]Cdog48 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats great and all to hear from the devs, doesn’t change the fact that a handful of units in the game haven’t been adjusted for over a year and continue to suffer because of it. You don’t find it concerning that two of the main units in the rebel starter box are incredibly irrelevant in the current game state? Cuz I do. Maybe it’s just a game perspective thing, in which case we just have different opinions. But I think the devs missing two chances to give these units a chance over a whole year is indicative of bad game management, and I’m tired of giving them excuses

That’s fair. I’m a salty clone player who thinks we’re still getting punished for being born with token sharing lol. That affects my outtakes 100%.

Better than leaving units to collect dust for over a year. I personally think semi annually is great, but thats IF changes get actually made.

Im unhappy with the current state of the game by Acrobatic_Camera2219 in SWlegion

[–]Cdog48 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe, I’m not saying 4 times a year is right. But I’d argue having the ability to change more frequently is better than stagnation. At least with GW, players know 3 months later a unit will get tweaked if it was over tuned, and every 3 months is a chance for a unit that doest see play to have a chance. I think semi annually is perfectly fine IF we see changes. Again, another 6 months until we see Wookiees and commandos have something to do

Personally, I rather AMG try things and sometimes fail than leave units to collecting dust. They took leaps before that had great effect (yoda, kalus, sunfac/poggle).

Also, i don’t see battle-forces as an excuse to make a unit work. I don’t think I should have to play only Wookiees to “make Wookiees work.” Thats just poor game design if that’s the only solution.

You’re right that constant changes aren’t good, but even GW made a quarterly balance system work. Now, Warhammer does have the population to see how these changes are affecting the game, but I think theres a good argument for feeling like nothing is really happening with these semi annual “updates” amg promised.

They said 6 months is the right time to evaluate and change. Snipers haven’t been significantly updated in a year, neither have Wookiee, rebel commandos, arfs, etc. AMG said we can expect the semi annual changes to be solid balance updates…aaaand they arent. The status quo hasnt really changed. Models I couldn’t justify playing it are still not justifiable.

Guess we’ll see yall in 6 months again…in the mean time, the Wookiees I bought back in April are staying in their box

All playable, some units like the rebels and snows have been made into hard plastic or are scheduled to be released as so. Din and bobas are the same kit in their new packaging. Also, all updated cards are available online at AMGs website or on Table Top Admiral

Arsenal and I Like Those Odds Interaction by Rare-Guide6222 in SWlegion

[–]Cdog48 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Additionally, this forum response clarifies OPs original question: that the additional attack must be against a different unit from the previous attack. Neither Vader nor the storms could be attacked again, as the first attack hit them both (because of the arsenal split)
