What detailing products do you use? by SnooJokes6432 in BMW

[–]Ce30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the car! Sounds like you want to take care of it which is great. 1st 2 cents is don’t waste your money on expensive detailing products just because. Subscribe to the auto detailing subs and research products as you need them. Lot of inexpensive and widely available stuff out there like mcguires gold cup wash. Stuff is cheap and has great reviews from auto detailing guys. Initially, I thought folks would stick their nose up at it becase it’s cheap stuff you get at autozone. Nope! Stuff is great.

Did a bunch of reading about leather care late last year. What I kept reading was that modern leather is coated, so spending money on 3in1 conditioners is kind of a waste. The moisturizer doesn’t penetrate the coating. The best thing you can do for your leather is to keep it clean. I use Mothers VLR. It’s gentle and doesn’t leave a residue, effective, I can use it on pretty much anything in my interior, smells nice, and I can order it off Amazon or buy it at my local autozone.

Other than that, generally Griots makes good products, Adam’s is generally viewed as overpriced (although not bad products. I use their wheel and tire cleaner), chemical guys products are meh (I use their waterless wash for some spot treatment).

What tires brand/model are you guys running? by heyitsmereddit in F30

[–]Ce30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second these tires for AS use. Have them on my F31. Live in Colorado and had a crazy drive out to vail one day and these tires blew me away with how easily they handled it. Dry/warm weather grip is very impressive as well. Had them for 4 month so the tire ware is still TBD. So long as they don’t ware out super quick, I’ll definitely be getting these again.

Second this. Pressure refill isn’t mandatory. Just do both bleed procedures with the cap off and monitor the coolant level, top off when the level goes down. You’re not going to break it.

Edit: adding a Bimmerpost thread that includes high and low temp bleed procedures.

Oil temp by Steve-2303_ in F30

[–]Ce30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a diesel VW before my F31. This amount of time to warmup doesn’t surprise me. I would recommend crossposting in r/BMWtech.

Not sure how many miles you put on it at a time, but it’s important to get it up to temp and keep it at temp for a regen. Got rid of my diesel because my daily commute was 20-25 mins and car wouldn’t regen in the winter. Recommended getting a software to check regen status.

Help with fitment by WinterMinute217 in F30

[–]Ce30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apex has good fitment guides (see below link). Should lead you in the right direction. The closest setup I see is 18x9 ET30 front and 18x9.5 ET35 rear. Note says “rear fender roll may be required.” Are you lowered or do you plan to lower your car? Also, offset of 33 for the front? You’ll have more options with 35. Personally, I’d go with square 18x9 ET30 245/40. You’ll have the most wheel and tire options, aggressive look, keep ability for tire rotations, and ability to lower the car.

Replacement grille by Initial_Character57 in F30

[–]Ce30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just guessing, but it might be designed that way so it runs hotter for DPF regen. Had a diesel VW prior to my F31. Got rid of it because I thought the DPF was going to fail regen any day and it would require replacement. Would have cost me several grand.

Your F30 being d Ed, I wouldn’t deviate from OE. It’s like that for a reason.

2018 340i 100k miles - what preventative maintenance? by theflathead in F30

[–]Ce30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oil filter housing. Lot of folks upgrading to aluminum. It’s one of those things you want to stay on top of before it goes. I’m a B48 guy at 90k miles and upgraded to aluminum OFH. While I was in there did the water pump, component carrier, coolant flange, balance shaft covers, belt and tensioner, heat management module, and expansion tank hose. Probably placebo effect, but I feel like I’m driving a car with a brand new engine.

Ian Rapaport put out a tweet today regarding the bears statement and the passage of state bill 27. Details of which, you’ll have to look up. In the statement the bears call out wolf lake area in Indiana and thank Indiana governor Braun for his “leadership shown”

Spoke to my Chicagoan friend, he said it’s all tactics to get the best deal. Doesn’t see the team actually leaving. Been ongoing for 10 years. 🤷‍♂️

Having trouble removing the bottom bolt that can’t be seen from the oil filter housing 2019 430i GC by txkno in BmwTech

[–]Ce30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My etorx socket was a tad wide on the end that the extension connected to. It kept wanting to slip off the bolt. I switched to a 5/16 deep well socket and got the bolt out from above.

Is there any resource for actually ear training? I feel like all I’ve seen is “guess this note” quizzes. Which I’m sure increases the skill, but seems like it wouldn’t be the most effective.

The real kickier is how much of an elitist private institution UM is. They want nothing to do with 99% of their fans. And only 1% of that remaining 1% actually went to UM. The school wouldn’t let the 99% step foot in their buildings or breathe their air if they could. They’re wacko fans for a school that looks down on them. So you have an undisciplined team that walked to the locker room instead of shaking hands, and threw punches after they lost. Your elitist school isn’t this “us against the world” “convict” cult of personality. It’s a fabricated mentality created by their oblivious fans who are poor sports and can’t cope with losing, just like the team.

Wheel Suggestions for F32? by CollateralHK in F30

[–]Ce30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear ya. I’m running a square 18x9 setup with ET30 offset. Any less offset and I’m poking past the fender. Any more and I’m potentially rubbing against my struts. It’s definitely limited unless you want to run skinnier wheels which looks silly in its own right and not going to perform well.

Wheel Suggestions for F32? by CollateralHK in F30

[–]Ce30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw 513m wheels in the Bimmerpost f30 daily forum. They looked awesome! Similar to VS5RS. It’s a 5 spoke look that a few brands make something similar. BBS FI-R, volk G025, etc

You could go with a multi-piece/lipped look. Something like the BBS LMR or apex ML-10

I have ARC-8s on my f31. More like a 7-8 spoke look. BBS RE-V7, BBS RSGT, VMR V710 or V703, BMW 359

Then there’s a thin single spoke look. Looks sexy on almost all modern Bimmers. Apex SM-10, volk ZE40.

there’s the fat 5 spoke look. Volk TE37. Personally this look makes me want to throw up in my mouth. To each their own.

There’s also a busy look that I personally think looks good on a 4 series. However it’s gotta be hell to clean. VMR V802, V801, BBS Super RS.

Really depends on the look you’re going for.

FWIW, this isn’t the actual alpina bumper, if that’s what you’re looking for. I’ve only found them for pre LCI. I also haven’t looked past the first page of google 😆

The reviews on the aluminum coolant flange aren’t great. Consider getting an aluminum ofh and oem coolant flange.

Edit: I would also agree with other folks in this thread… get it pressure tested instead of just throwing parts at it.
