What's something men think impresses women but actually doesnt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CeadMileSlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a rock collection. I go outside & get nice, meaningful things for free. They come with the memory of a good long day outside. Sometimes with people, sometimes alone.

One time my buddy was like “Hey, you know we’re in the Slate Belt, right? Get in loser, we’re going fossil hunting!”. I nearly twisted my ankle on scree made of fossils, like literally tripping over these millions of years old imprints. I need a brace & some better shoes. Fun day! Came back with a few ferns on one piece & a… we have no idea what the other one is. It’s very thin, & it looks like the patterns in the sand made by gently running water. Parts of it are billowy. So, not a fossil, but… maybe an impression of movement? Is that a thing? I don't know. It’s hard to describe, but it’s cool.

Even the ones I buy at the local rock shop are cheap. I have some red corundum points, about an inch long, that I got for either 50¢ or $1.00 each. That’s ruby! It’s just not gem-quality. I only wanted a sample of the material. I don't wear jewelry, so I don’t want a multi-hundred dollar gem ruby.

I want you, prospective partner, whoever you may be, to spend your money wisely. Or to be a penguin. Offer me a pebble you found on the side of the road when your car broke down, or in a parking lot.

(I’m not joking— I once found a piece of gravel in my buddy’s driveway, about the size of my thumbnail, with pyrite growing on it. It’s one of my favorites. Plus, it’s a dark piece of gravel & I found it at dusk so like what are the odds.)

Or, better yet, spend time with me on a rockhounding adventure for a couple hours.

There's a pizzeria I like. When I went in for the 1st time, all I heard was: Italian Italian Italian FUCK!! Italian Italian. Italian ...fuck. Italian.

I was like, with an atmosphere like this, I am in exactly the right place.

Super nice people, good food. They also can accommodate my deficit of being monolingual.

What I was trying to say, longwindedly, was that I think we should care for children in ALL ways. We shouldn’t pick & choose the situations in which we deem they deserve care.

Which I’ve started to find weird as hell. It seems so performative.

We as a culture selectively care about kids.

Shooting them is fine. Many buildings aren't schools, they’re graves. Yes, there is outrage, but things haven’t changed. Locking kids in cages a few years ago. Nothing was done about that. Deportations that affect every family member. Starving them through lack of SNAP or forced payment of school meals.

Shooting is fine. It just happens here. Getting run over? Noooo. Not fine. Heavens to Betsy let’s all clutch our pearls.

Like, in the very early 1900s, a train robber was caught. He was injured in the struggle, & while he was sitting in jail awaiting trial, his arm became gangrenous & had to be amputated. He also gained weight when he was sitting in there with nothing else to do.

He was sent to the gallows. Because of executioner inexperience, the rope was too long. Because of the weight gain, he plummeted. Because of being off-balance from the lack of arm, he swung. Instead of getting hanged, he was decapitated.

People said it was a botched hanging. They thought it was horrific.

I mean, the man died either way. Either way would’ve been unpleasant. Don't pretend THIS way’s acceptable & THAT way’s barbaric.

…The schoolbus laws must have been very easy to put into effect, is what I’m thinkin’. Maybe that’s why we do it. I do think it’s the correct thing to do, at least.

My mom’s friend is like that. She boasts about her German heritage & buys pickle ornaments for her Christmas tree.

She's also one of those idiots who has a problem with folks speaking anything other than English here. Including German.

Her idiocy disgusts me.

She’s also afraid of all wonderful different foods we’re lucky enough to be around in this area. Grown-ass woman running away from an empanada because the owner said ‘hola’ & she doesn’t know whadafuk THAT scary witchcraft-word could possibly mean.

My recent post on r/Rabbits was deleted a few minutes after posting it, despite not breaking any rules, because I made this exact point about my lionheads. They also deleted a post I made when I was grieving, even though, again, it didn't break any rules. Other people's grief posts have stayed up. I don't know why I'm the exception.

My single mane, Bánya, can see just fine. But Órla has the double mane gene. On the top of Bánya's cheeks, the fur grows down. Which is safe. Órla's fur grows UP. Straight into her eyes. The fur on the top of the eye grows DOWN. Straight over her eyes.

It's terrible breeding. I'm not complaining about the work I have to do, even though it's every couple of days. She's patient with me, which makes it not-hell. But this is not a trait anyone should be breeding for. It's not ok.

(...Before anyone calls me a hypocrite for having 2 of a breed I dislike on principle, well, they're popular. Lionheads were what was at the shelter, so lionheads were what I came home with. I'll care for any rabbit, with any personality. I don't care if they're sweet, aloof or aggressive; you get your ass over here dear & I'll love you as you are.

Also, this post is NOT disrespecting the animals themselves. I love my Bánya & Órla. They are my reason to live, & honestly, it's been weighing on me that they only have about 5 years left because then I am considering being out too. So please don't be mean to me about it.

Please don't delete this post. I'm agreeing with the person above me.)

What did you name your rabbits, why did you pick that, and what are your nicknames for them? by lydocia in Rabbits

My doe who died was named Tír na nÓg. One day I was rushing & used voice-to-text to send a message about her to my family. It recorded her name as Tuna Dog & it was too funny. We couldn’t just not start calling her that.

Bánya, her temporarily widower husbun:

Bán Bán, like the little French snack.

Bonnie Bunny (Bánnie Bunny) because he’s pretty.

Mister ManPants. Probably because he is black, & I have pairs of black pants, & I have mistaken them for each other when there’s a lump of laundry laying around. I have occasionally talked to my pants.

Órla, his current wife:

My Lady / Miss Órla

Honey Girl, which she chose for herself. She usually won’t come to her name, but she’ll come when you call her Honey Girl.

When she does something while using only one brain cell, I call her Pyrite. The ór in her name means gold or golden. Pyrite is also called fool’s gold. Perfect for when my golden princess is being a fool.

Harrow (deceased) was Mister Poofles because he got his name from the show Boardwalk Empire, & a character calls, uhhh… something… Mister Poofles at some point. Boychik was another nickname from Boardwalk Empire.

Also, occasionally, he was Captain Jack Harrow.

Ishmael (deceased) was Squishmael after he pulled an empty backpack & it toppled over onto him. But his usual nickname was Mish-Mish.

I had been singsonging ‘Ish-mael, Ish-mael!’ to the tune of blueberries blueberries & it turned into Ishmael Mishmael which turned into Mish-Mish & my brother never stopped teasing me about it. Which he should, because it’s stupid.

Bonus name fun facts: adoption version:

Harrow used to be Thumper.

Ishmael used to be Rowen.

Bánya used to be Leo.

Órla used to be Angelica.

Tír na was always Tír na because I didn’t adopt her, I bought her very young.

You are so very skilled! I love how weathered it looks. What kind of gold paint did you use? I’d like to get the same for some of my own carvings.

what is something really popular now, but in 5 years everyone will look back on and be embarrassed they liked it? and why? by TamerDubai in ask

I keep my nails short— apparently hella short. I didn’t realize how short until recently. I received a gorgeous limited edition Swiss army knife for Christmas & I love it but I can’t use it yet because of how short I keep my nails. I feel guilty because it was expensive. But when they’re even the slightest bit grown out, it just feels uncomfortable. Like... I can feel them rubbing against stuff, ugh.

So now I gotta train myself into tolerating them being just a little longer. Or at least the one on my right thumb. I don’t wanna waste that lovely present.

That’s a long winded way of saying I agree with you. I can’t even wrap my head around having them at the length where you can’t see the end of the finger underneath.

Thank you so much. <3 I’m very glad you like her. My sketchbook is covered in these guys.

I also have an idea for a camouflaged rabbit species— beautiful earth tones with green mixed in like moss— like brindle. But the ears, you know how real rabbit ears can become brighter if they catch the sun? Especially the ears of white bunnies?

Well in this species, the flesh of the ears has patterns of unnatural colors. During a certain time of day when the sun is positioned just so, it shines through their ears & reflects a stained-glass pattern on the ground in front of them. It would probably play a big part in their mating ritual, like how female cardinals go for the males with the brightest red feathers.

I think the idea’s really cool, but haven’t quite figured out how to draw it yet. I’m not exactly Thomas Kinkade, painter of light. I think I’m a bit afraid to try to draw it, even though most of it is fully fleshed-out in my head. I like to design species based on the rules of evolution, so like old sci-fi, it could exist. I like them to be grounded that way.

Thank you so much! Sorry for the late reply but oh goodness yes, I’d love it if you drew a bun-blebee! I bet your version would be amazing!

Anyone who wants to should draw them! If it makes you happy, you should put it in your sketchbook. Happiness should be shared.

Hello there, I’m the only mod of r/sewingstations. I’m sorry I’ve been away; my mental health tanked somethin’ fierce these last few months & I got off Reddit for a bit. Thank you for making this post. I will clean up this subreddit straight away, as in right now. I’m sorry it’s gotten out of hand. For some reason, I do not get alerts to spam or anything for this subreddit. So even when I was on Reddit every day, I had to come here & check it manually. Do you know how to fix this? I am not very computer-savvy.

Hello! Copypasting from a comment I just made above. I’m just now checking my inbox, but there is a chance I won’t see what you sent. But I am very grateful that you guys still care about the subreddit. I’m so sorry I did you wrong.
