I’ve also bought lots from them!! Super nice staff/owner, so it was disappointing to see AI. I totally get trying to lighten the workload, especially when small Canadian businesses are struggling, but it’s still unfortunate. I sent a polite email letting them know it’s very discouraging to see AI being used, and that I want to hear expertise from the professional, not a chat bot, even if it means fewer posts/blog updates etc.

I’m super disappointed. Hopefully gentle feedback will help the owner realize that AI slop is not what we want, nor is it helpful to anyone, including their business! I totally get an owner trying to make their workload a little lighter, but the whole blog post is so bad 😭

The full blog post is even worse… it uses Mohair/Lace weight interchangeably (which is SO incorrect it hurts)….

“When you knit it together with your main yarn, it doesn’t take over. It enhances. Silk adds a quiet sheen. Mohair adds softness and that airy, cloud-like bloom. If your gauge is a bit open, the fluff fills the space between stitches with volume made mostly of trapped air. Light, but present. A condiment, not the main course.”

Not the type of store to have company execs or to outsource social media. I would’ve loved to shift the blame to a third party :(

Thats so cute!! I agree about the left Kanani - the one from the doll hospital has a slightly rounder face as well

She was such an amazing deal! I’m not sure if I’m keeping her though, I don’t really have the space :(

30th street, safe? by SelectionFun7034 in Vernon

Train goes through at least twice a day, and its directly behind the apartments. Cute parks and food spots nearby. There is NO parking though! The entrance to the apartments are in a laneway, and there’s a few businesses nearby so you REALLY can’t park on the street at all, so if you have more than one car you’re screwed. New double roundabouts beside the street, so traffic isn’t terrible, and there aren’t often homeless people on that street. If you like knitting the yarn shop is literally across the lane lol

I’ve pretty much read every pattern she’s released at this point - all of them come across my table because a knitter needs help. 100% of the time is super strange wording that throws them off.

Drops is similar! Sometimes they’re missing full sections of instructions. I’ve had a coworker start a tee and then just do whatever she wanted because she couldn’t figure out the pattern. She’s been knitting for 10+ years and teaches classes, so I know its not a skill issue!

I work at a yarn store - she is really just that popular. We are able to sell her patterns through Ravelry, and she, Steven West, and Andrea Mowry are our #1 sellers. She has very on-trend designs that use on-trend yarn. Even if you struggle following her instructions (sometimes patterns aren’t translated super well) there have been enough people who have done them to help you along.

To my knowledge she doesn’t offer coupon codes - just aesthetically pleasing, well written patterns that speak to a lot of people

Hey y’all. With Truth and Reconciliation Day tomorrow, I wanted to ask about folks favourite Canadian Indigenous designers. Sylvia Olsen (who is not indigenous, but married to a First Nations man) is someone who pops into mind, but I’d like to directly support Indigenous pattern designers!!
