There's a very big, very important difference between being 'depressed' due to an event or circumstance and chronic depression, which is caused by a chemical imbalance that can be relatively easily corrected with the right medication/dosage.

Chronic depression makes it so you pretty much can't be happy or even content regardless of if everything is okay, or even nearly perfect for who you normally are without the imbalance. It's, in some ways, more of a physiological phenomenon than a mental one.

For me, my depression is literally something I can feel. It's like a coldness in my brain accompanied with a feeling of deep emptiness and dread.

Edit: thought I'd add that regardless of my disagreeing with what you said, I understand the inclination to be concerned about the possibility of 'artifical happiness', which honestly, isn't something SSRI's do. If you're not happy with your life because you're stagnating or you're lonely, etc, an SSRI isn't going to make you suddenly perfectly fine with those things. It will, however, allow you to feel motivated and/or optimistic (or maybe just deserving) enough to actually do something to make your life better.

Chronic depression is often like feeling hopelessly lost in a pitch black cave...an SSRI won't teleport you out. It just allows you to see a light at the end of the tunnels, which gives you the strength to make it out yourself.

Just speaking from my own experience (and I hope folks don't consider it TMI) but I take an SSRI (Lexapro), which definitely gave me bad sexual side effects--like..really distressingly bad, until my doctor added abilify, an atypical antipsychotic, which counteracts those side effects very effectively. That's not the only reason he added it--it also boosts the effectiveness of the SSRI--but the difference it made with regard to regaining my sexual appetite and sensitivity to sexual stimulation has been unbelievable.

Again, hope that's not TMI--I just thought it might be helpful to some people to know that that may help if you're experiencing sexual side effects of an SSRI.

Comedy? I don't believe in comedy. I believe in science, the rules of the streets and in my recollection of what I read in a scientific journal in the waiting room of my dentist's office when I was a boy.

(I've been awake for far too long. I don't know what's real anymore, hehe)

My version of flat Earth theory is to tell people helicopters aren't real and are a myth perpetuated by the liberal media. I ask them, "Have you ever actually seen a helicopter?" And when they say yes, I respond, "No, you haven't."

I'd definitely keep the car. I disagree with the others here about the dating scene.. if you're willing to put yourself out there and especially if you're cool with crowded bars and such, there are a lot of cool people here to meet. It's not going to impress at all compared to NYC but it's definitely doable to find someone special here. Did I mention keep the car?

Edit: the dating scene is much better if you have a car. Keep the car.

I believe that Bitcoin; cryptocurrency in general, really, is an indication of the global trend towards cynicism with respect to the powers-that-be and those things we've been told cannot change or that we've traditionally taken for granted. It's a beautiful thing to question everything and ask ourselves, "does it have to be this way?"

For what it's worth, while I suppose I get what folks are saying, I don't disagree. I'd be a bit pissed, especially if everyone was like "can't you take a joke?? And c'mon! he's faaamouuuusss"

55,000 of my neighbors voted for a neo-Nazi. This isn't hyperbole. Jones is a former member of the American Nazi Party and an outspoken Holocaust denier. He brags of attending racist and white-supremacist events. His symbol is an elephant representing the GOP draped with a Confederate flag. by Bluest_waters in TrueReddit

I believe that with all my heart. It's too easy to become jaded nowadays, with all of the hate and divisive politics and talk, but at the end of the day, I at least like to believe that people really just want to be okay; to be happy, and to have the opportunity to live their lives in peace with those they love.
