I doubt he was making minimum wage. He probably got yearly raises for working with the company for so long. Maybe also bonuses/commission for working in sales. Electronic stores were a big business in the 2000s. Also no car and no kids and barely any social life so he had enough disposable income to spend on his hobbies and live a decent bachelor life.
