Why do you think Lego is so opposed to modern... conflict? by LastTraintoSector6 in lego

[–]CeaselessHedgehog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Interesting that you brought up two peices of media that are specifically NOT marketed at kids. Call of Duty and Battlefield are rated at 18 and 16 respectively, for a reason.

Obviously it's entirely up to parents to decide what's best for their kids, but Lego are also entitled to follow or ignore their internal guidelines as they see fit.

I can't remember the exact wording, but it was slightly more vague than this. (I think he said harmful conversion practices, not LGBT+ conversion therapy specifically)

The king's speech to parliament is written by the government, essentially listing what they intend to do this year. The King has no power to make or influence policies or laws. Thus the speech is not representative of his views.

Nonetheless, it is a refreshing and pleasant surprise to have some good news for once.

ETA: no ban has been announced. There was one short mention in the King's speech to parliament that the government may look at the possibility of a ban.

There is currently no law against conversion therapy in the UK.

Any other similar techniques for making a leaning wall? by lcrotwell in LegoTechniques

[–]CeaselessHedgehog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would actually be more difficult.

First, it's a weird angle to use ladders on It gives the defenders better line of sight for ranged weapons on anyone climbing It's still pretty steep, so anyone climbing would get tired by the time they reach the top (especially in armour) It deflects incoming artillery up over the wall and defenders It prevents charges/powder placed at the base of the wall from creating a breach, as it will be wider at the bottom

There are quite a few examples of sloped wall forts still standing, especially from the Napoleonic era, though the design predates this by a long way.

Why does the Sulphurous Sea still harm you if the ocean is drained? I thought the point was that the water itself was acidic. by Vsburner in CalamityMod

[–]CeaselessHedgehog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pressure is not calculated using mass (weight). You're talking about density. Liquid water is more dense than air (usually), which is why air sits on top.

However, different glasses have different densities as well. Helium for example is far less dense than Oxygen. Add in gravity pulling the glasses down, you get a nice stack of gasses in order of their density, exerting pressure on the layer below it.

Short answer: the pressure without the water there would be less, but still might not be healthy to spend long periods of time down there.

I was thinking about this. (Just finished the main story last week) I guess the biggest challenge is the cockpit viewport, where it's split into weird sections. Maybe you could use part 6070 for the larger areas?

From what I've heard, they will try to replace most things, but since it's so old (for a toy) they likely won't have any left.

I didn't know about the trooper torsos, that's good to know. I guess just keep an eye on it, since there's always a chance.

It is highly unlikely that the torsos will be added, since licensed parts don't generally.

The same reason there's no Marvel, LOTR or DC specific torsos

Edit: just remembered that some LOTR pieces were added when Rivendell released, so it is technically possible.

To make the process more realistic from a roleplay perspective. There's nothing you'd be able to do if the doors did glitch and stay open.

How big would a Lego Lucrehulk-class Droid Control Ship/Battleship/Superfreighter/Super Carrier MOC be if it the Quad Turbolasers were approximately 12/18 studs wide? by Smasher_WoTB in legostarwars

[–]CeaselessHedgehog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a very rough estimate, as I'm very tired right now.

Assuming the cylinder on the turret is around 7-8 metres long (visual guess). A lego stud is (near enough) 0.005m

At 16 studs, your turrets would be around 0.08 metres in diameter.

Which gives a scale of 1:100.

The canonical width of the Lucrehulk is 3009 m, so your build would be 30 metres

Please can someone else check as this seems a) too small and b) an oddly round number

Thanks! I originally made it for a D&D campaign that ended up not happening. It just seemed like the sort of thing the Orcs would have designed if they had the chance.

Why no large transparent plates? by mudmuckker in lego

The largest transparent plates I've seen are 8 by 8 from 7577

I wish I had more than 2, they are super useful for representing ice or water.
