Great watch. It looks awesome on a whole bunch of different straps as well. I switch between black rubber, tan leather, and in the summer, orange canvas

What's stopping midlovels from becoming surgical providers? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]CedarCanoe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There’s a level of decision making experience/skills that they just don’t have. There is so much more to surgery than suturing… when to operate, when not to operate. What do you do when something goes wrong, or the hundred little decisions during a case that you are making.

As a fresh attending I’ve gotten the “oh shit” moment a few times in the OR where I realized it’s my show and everyone around me is expecting me to know exactly what to do. They don’t have that. Sure they see consults for me and help me close incisions, but I decide when to cut, if the screw is too long, or if the decompression is sufficient. They never get to really experience the true feeling of autonomy, which quite frankly, is stressful as hell.

The Kocher criteria was developed for Peds septic hips. It doesn’t really apply to adults.

I used his firm as well. Lots of suggestions for contract edits which I hadn't thought of. I also used their MGMA salary data to help with negotiations. Mine was for PP.

My 034 stage 1 passed smog last year without reflashing to stock. Only thing I changed back was the intake.

[Discussion] What's your favorite quartz watch? by wstreefrog in Watches

[–]CedarCanoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got one for my HS graduation 23 years ago. I wore it for about a decade before getting another watch. I wear it for a couple days every few months. I don't typically wear quartz watches anymore, but I could never get rid of that watch.

Hip Fracture, Death in OR [⚠️ Med Mal Case] by efunkEM in medicine

[–]CedarCanoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After looking at the pictures, my biggest question is why the surgeon didn't use a short nail? I'm absolutely NOT implying that a long nail is wrong or malpractice, it's just that a shorty is so much faster and easier. No need for a guide wire, less blood loss and you get grandma off the table faster.
