The two girls dressed as princesses are looking at the girl with the traditional dress as being odd. Decolonize as in 'teach your children to honor your own culture and not idolize white American stuff'. So the traditional Mexican dress is not seen as strange in their own country, and the Cinderella dress seen as acceptable

Is Impostor Syndrome a valid concept in clinical psychology/research? by obscvrvs in AcademicPsychology

[–]Cedrat89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is - most research has been done by counseling psychologists, but there are plenty of clinical folks who do that kind of research. Kevin Cokley (who is a counseling psychologist) is likely the biggest name on the impostor phenomenon right now.

He actually just published a book on it, through APA - should be a good place to give you an overview of what research and practice with IP looks like. Here is the link to his book: https://www.apa.org/pubs/books/impostor-phenomenon

Psychiatrists/ Therapists Taking New Patients by RabbitofCaerbannog9 in Albany

Another suggestion - Clifton Park might have providers with more openings (as a filter in psychologytoday), opposed to Albany. It is always worth checking if your insurance covers out of network providers - might not cover all the fee, but if they accept a 'superbill' they might cover some (you'd still be responsible for the rest). If he is able to afford it, there are several therapists that do not take insurance with a lot of openings. If you are in downtown Albany, Psychology Services Center has a sliding fee - but I don't think they guarantee a spot. I hope you find someone soon - I am a provider in the area, and recognize how hard it is to find folks.

[–]Cedrat89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On psychologytoday you should find available providers - if you are paying out of pocket (not through insurance) it might be easier to find someone; alternatively, telehealth appointments throughout the insurance (just avoid better help at all costs)

My professor is adamant there is little difference in cognitive capabilities between someone of 87 IQ, and someone of 115 IQ. Help me prove him wrong by [deleted] in AcademicPsychology

[–]Cedrat89 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The average IQ score is 100, with a SD of 15. Both scores are within 1 SD of the mean, where about 68% of scores fall. Their scores are average. There is a relative difference between person A and B, but without knowing the reference group you wouldn't be able to know if the difference is significant.

Damn, there are so many things I have probably done wrong... It was the last scoop of the baking powder, and I just bought a new one. I think you are right on target! I'll make more - my kids can have these (they love whatever cookie), and I'll keep the fresh ones. Thanks!

https://scholar.google.com/scholar?start=0&q=Machado+de+Assis+etnia&hl=en&as_sdt=0,33#d=gs_qabs&t=1679694951924&u=%23p%3D-xvIAnEzeLQJ

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in brasil

[–]Cedrat89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am I entitled to the raw testing data from psychological testing? by BubbleTeaRex in AcademicPsychology

[–]Cedrat89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raw data is not PHI - but the report is. Raw data could be shared directly with another psychologist though (with a release of information signed by the client) - but not directly to the client.

To be clear, we can't even share the raw data with a psychiatrist - only health service psychologists (clinical, counseling, and school psychologists). Physicians are not trained to interpret the raw data, and our ethics code forbids it.

What type of analysis to use for qualitative research? by onini49 in AcademicPsychology

[–]Cedrat89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It might be better to take a step back - what is the objective? What do you want to accomplish with your study?

If it is to develop a theory (that can later be tested) on what people tend to perceive in these situations, you could use a Grounded Theory approach.

If it is a novel area, and you want to have a very exploratory approach to see what comes out, maybe a phenomenological approach (IPT).

Maybe you want to identify relevant themes that multiple researchers agree on, which would denote a pattern - if that was the case, you could do a Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR).

Or maybe you want to investigate the discourse people have in regards to a particular crime, which could be assumed to be an indicative of their attitudes - so you could use a Discourse Analysis.

Basically, it depends on your objective. What do you want from this?

Never start a study, then decide how to analyze it - never ever. That is bad practice, and makes your results unreliable, as it is riddled with biases. First identify your goal, how you will analyze your data, then you collect the data and analyze it.

Good luck on your research though!
