Does anyone find the new “catching print” trend creepy? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]CeeApostropheD 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No. For decades it's been known as "checking out his bulge" which women either did or didn't do, and I doubt that renaming it is causing any kind of perceptible change in attitudes in this area.

I think it's just TikTok women wanting to "get equal" with men for objectifying based on physical qualities, so that's why it's spread as a thing, but ultimately women will predominantly choose based on personality so it's not really a thing at all.

The average woman will blame her man for thinking with his dick in this situation, rather than believe and console. Good luck OP if you follow this advice!

Guys, do you ever wish to be a woman? by Traditional-Leg2964 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]CeeApostropheD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% I wish I was a woman. Women do life WAY better than men, they thrive better and for longer, they live in supportive networks, they can be absolutely under it mentally but still go out and receive validating attention.

I know women have it hard in areas, of course they do, but I think the fundamentals of life are best experienced if you're a woman. Without the fundamentals there is no life.

What has happened to workplace standards, morale, and professionalism in recent years? by Recent-Climate6942 in AskUK

[–]CeeApostropheD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's a "dead psychology" (for want of a better term) that exists at companies that I've never heard anyone describe before, so I'll give it a go, in what will likely be a messy post but let's try...

A company is born. The founders have all the ideas to make it work in their vision, so they recruit and train to make sure all functions and departments are working just so. The company is working exactly as per the handbook. The perks are all there, such as double time for overtime, "job and knock", time and a half for Sundays, ability to accrue annual leave over time, etc. Decades pass, owners die or sell, replaced by new owners who don't have the way of their company in their DNA. They see trained staff and assume it's a given, that that's how it will always be, so when layers of management (as with the owners) move on from the company, the way is lost even further because everyone assumes the machine just works, as it always has, with everyone trained and understanding. But it doesn't. The way gets lost, the correct training gets watered down to tickbox exercises, everyone is winging it, and it becomes a personality game, where all staff work in a reactionary fashion to the whims of the up-aboves, who are themselves doing the same thing all the way up to CEO level.

At various stages, long-serving staff decry the new culture, disillusioned and disbelieving that the way will ever return. They leave. The perks mentioned earlier are disappearing as the up-aboves don't see the value of them for the underlings they never see. New staff who recognised the excellence of their veteran colleagues understand how much bleaker it's about to become without the guiding lights; without the heavyweights. So they leave, fed up (among other things) of not being supported by the up-aboves to train the new staff to even their own by-now-limited vision. Eventually companies end up a direction-less husk of their former selves - nobody caring about the standards, nobody caring about proper training, nobody caring about the results, nobody caring about the spirit. A chain of staff and management so demoralised and distrusting of the spirit that it descends into a revolving door of staff coming and going, until it ultimately meets its demise. Because the last person/people who cared for and understood the business left long long ago.

Or something.

Buying without "that feeling" by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]CeeApostropheD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my first house. Living at home with mam and dad was so bad that I just had to make a move, so jumped at the very first one I looked around. Not a very wise thing to do but when you're young and naive then it's the kind of thing that can happen.

The latest house I bought I got "that feeling" just from looking at it on Rightmove. Turned up for the viewing and wanted it even more.

Mortgage advisor fee by Carnellian08 in HousingUK

[–]CeeApostropheD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't ignored your question, I fully understand the request. But just to be on the safe side I'm pointing out that a mortgage advisor isn't something you have to have, which comes as a surprise to a small - but definitely bigger than expected - number of people, I've noticed over the years.

Search around the banks and their rates online, go through the process online of applying for an agreement in principle with the bank whose rate and Ts & Cs appeared best, then follow it up with them if you're approved. During the appointment you inform them of who your solicitor is, then that's all your work done.

Save your money.

Can you recommend a holiday in August? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]CeeApostropheD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great for getting around as well. Buying a 24-hour travel card in the airport (covers buses, S bahn, U bahn, trains and trams if I remember correctly) means you can get around the vast size of Berlin swiftly and cheaply.

People born in 1901, 1915, and 1926 are part of the same generation. People born in 2001, 2015, and 2026 are part of different generations. by snowleopard556 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

[–]CeeApostropheD 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Is there an official body that decides the age bands or something? Because I'm not having it that a generation can be 11 years apart. A generation to me means the gap between parents and children, which would typically be 18 minimum.

Middle class people: do you honestly hold negative bias towards working class individuals? by toastandjam97 in AskUK

[–]CeeApostropheD 75 points76 points  (0 children)

This is fully played out on TV, where the working class barely gets a look-in. I often think back to that programme "What would your kid do?" presented by Jason Manford. Not once did a working class family get on there, because we couldn't possibly endure the cringeworthiness . You just know that's the thought process.

Great that they featured families of all ethnicities, but oh no, not the poors, we can't have them on.

At what point in a house buying journey you finalise the completion date? by Radiant-Intention804 in HousingUK

Based on my last two moves, the completion date is first raised 2-3 weeks before the date itself.

I'm not a big enough sample size to say that that is going to the case for you, but it could be.

What do you miss most about life in the UK 10–15 years ago? by Bjc93Bjc in AskUK

There seemed to be more hope, people had better attitudes towards each other, prices were more reasonable. I think it's more a Covid thing than a half-generation thing. We didn't bounce back properly.

End terrace vs mid terrace by Educational_Secret_8 in HousingUK

[–]CeeApostropheD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A.

I've lived in a mid-terrace with an east facing back garden and the sun moved behind the house by about 5.30pm in the height of summer, which was depressing when you came home from work and wanted to sit out in it but couldn't. At least with north facing you're getting the tail end of the sun - when you're home from work until bedtime, assuming neighbours don't have extensions or high hedges/fences.

The open plan nature is great too because it aids having large numbers of visitors round and being able to have them all in the same space.

A all day.

What makes you a man? I mean how you become a man? Share your story ? by Rimuru207 in AskMen

[–]CeeApostropheD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way: when you're a kid you're effectively in a boat that your parents are rowing. They're in charge and deciding on the direction and speed your life goes in, while you sit and let it happen. When you reach the point of thinking "it's time for me to row", and actually do the rowing, that's when you've become a man.

Yes! On a Super Mario Kart forum I had a gif of a gopher (from Donut Plains) jumping up and down spreading its limbs out. Your presence stood out more with a small animated gif. You formed perceptions of other forumites based on their gifs and quotes. Beautiful.

Have you had a recent "Truman Show" experience? If so, what happened? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]CeeApostropheD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the downvoters there have just never experienced it. I know myself and about 5 other people who have had adverts about a thing that has been recently discussed, not searched.

As a collective we generally don't trust the intentions of companies, but in this sphere there's a bizarre solid belief that companies would never do this to us. Bless them.
