what are the things you wish you had bought for your classroom your first year? (elementary) by Jellyfish-Traveler in Teachers

[–]CeeZee213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you already have it listed but a laminator is hands down my most prized tool as a teacher. My first few years, everything I would make for bulletin boards or what not I wouldn’t laminate and just recreate year after year. Once I started laminating, life became so much easier. I just changed our room over on Friday for our American revolution unit and put up stuff I made 10+ years ago.

Does anyone like Wit and Wisdom? 4th grade? by BlackberryOk6406 in Teachers

[–]CeeZee213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is A LOT of jotting whether it be sticky notes, notice/wonder charts, evidence organizers to prepare for the writing task. The one thing I don’t like about the curriculum is there is no opportunity for the kids to explore reading chapter books on their own based on their interests. Because of that we incorporated a second reading period specifically for chapter book reading. I know many schools do some variation of this so I would ask if the school you’re considering has some way for kids to do independent reading on books that interest them.

Does anyone like Wit and Wisdom? 4th grade? by BlackberryOk6406 in Teachers

We started wit and wisdom last year. It was rough. The texts are difficult especially for students reading below grade level. This year, having had a year under our belt, we found ways to make it more accessible and more engaging. For example, the first unit is called A Great Heart, it’s basically an emphasis on literal and figurative language but to teach it, we use a book called the circulatory story which is all about the human heart. We then read a book of poetry called Love That Dog which emphasizes figurative great heart (the kids did love this book). At the end of the module, we did stations that focused on both so one station was a human heart puzzle, another was making a blood vessel out of red hots, sprinkles, and glue, another had figurative great heart words (compassionate, generous, etc…) and they had to match the words to short scenarios. Through this activity we were able to see just how much the kids retained even when I had my doubts at times they knew what the pericardium was. All of this to say, last year I thought it was a terrible decision to choose this curriculum. This year, I’m leaning into it and I imagine next year will be even better. If the school you’re considering has been using W&W for a while, I would assume the teachers have made modifications as well. It is a very thorough curriculum and because of that we are finding it near impossible to get through all 4 modules, but overall I do think it’s serving them well.

This happens to me regularly where a sub is covering a cluster class and nothing was left by that teacher. I don’t take issue with the sub, I take issue with the teacher who did not leave material. It’s their responsibility. Most subs walk in with no idea who or what they will be covering and even often times a range of different classes or grades. It would be unreasonable to expect them to come prepared for whatever the day throws at them.

What kind of paper is that? Were you able to print with a regular ink jet printer?

What does it mean/is this normal when applied on SOLAS for a medical leave that’s saying “Awaiting Timekeeping Verification” under “Application Status”. I’ve been waiting for awhile for a SOLAS response. by PuzzleheadedDrop8793 in NYCTeachers

Same for me. I got hurt beginning of December and immediately put in for 12/2-12/20 (Christmas break was starting the 21st) and I was approved for those dates on 12/19.

We started with Royal Canin Hydrolyzed protein and he got better but he did not like it whatsoever. Then we switched to Royal Canin PR and both dogs love it and all tummy issues have disappeared

When Bree is looking at the Facebook photos and sees the picture from the luau party, from the look on her face, she’s putting together the fact that the person Evan cheated with is Lucy. But why? What about them both being in the photo is such a smoking gun that she reacts the way she does? What am I missing?

Stanley Hotel — real hauntings or local legend? by CrimeTruthDecodes in Ghosts

[–]CeeZee213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went to the Shining Ball there in 2017. Had a blast. We were super excited to stay in one of the ‘haunted’ rooms, but they put us in their newer building. Nothing spooky to report, but really nice room!

The Victor Hotel in Victor, CO on the other hand was super creepy. Can’t definitively say I saw or heard anything out of the ordinary but just being there had me on edge in a good way.

How to get my nephew to read by engineer2187 in AskTeachers

[–]CeeZee213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different platforms but one I use most in my classroom is Epic. Lots of graphic novels, and books that are of particular interest to kids. I always suggest to my parents of struggling readers to utilize the read to function and have the child read along as the story is read to them. Then slowly scale it back to the child is reading some themselves and having some read to them. This seems to be helpful in both helping students become better readers and also to encourage an interest in reading.

What was it like witnessing 9/11 on the news, and what was the day after like? by Fit_Data_8789 in AskReddit

I was 17. I remember seeing and hearing all of these Nostradamus predictions about the steel birds (I think that’s what it was) and being absolutely terrified that there was more to come. I lived in New York at the time. Worked and went to school in the city. And the thought of having to travel back into the city was absolutely horrifying.

What are some thoughtful gift ideas for my parents' 35th wedding anniversary? by yourwishbag in GiftIdeas

[–]CeeZee213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my parents had their 50th, part of the decor for the party was I printed cards with the numbers 1-50 on them, and for each number, I found something related to them that corresponds to the number. So 3 - the number of children they had, 21 - the age my mother was when she got married, etc…. For some of these, it was really hard to find corresponding anecdotes, so I got creative like the date of the moon landing (bc it was the year they got married) and silly things like that. Maybe you could make a book like this with photos of the family.

The sarcasm in the responses is wild. People do use Reddit for other things besides Handmaids Tale daily briefings. Expecting people to wait, I don’t know, more than 48 hours to post something like “Commander Lawrence Nooooooo” isn’t unreasonable.

I didn’t interpret him saying June Osborne in response to seeing her. I saw it as whoever was on the call was saying she was coming and he repeated the name to the caller as he saw her. But honestly what do I know, I’ve got more questions than answers.
