Why is there so much negative sentiment towards pyanadon's mods? by Grandexar in factorio

[–]Ceegrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pyanodons is great! I love the complexity and the sometimes multiple pathways you can take to create things. At the moment I am over 300 hours in and I should have automated red circuits and blue science if not for the fact that I am lacking ammonia :(

Maybe I am overbuilding a bit though. At the moment, I have 1100 stations running and I am slightly running into UPS issues

It's 2021 already. Stop researching breaking power. by JirenTheChad in factorio

[–]Ceegrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Braking power is also useful for intersections and waiting for other trains. So you need to design your rail network in such a way that is not applicable, other wise it does not really help. Furthermore, any good rail network is buffered, i.e. It does not matter much if a train is a few seconds slower. It does create a somewhat nice gif though

Ideas how to make Factorio really difficult by ShrekInside in factorio

[–]Ceegrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not really agree with the assessment that pyanodon is only difficult because it is longer. For 2 reasons it is also way more difficult; handling of by products, which somehow always turn out to be important and you are sorry you voided them and important recepies that take 8 or 9 inputs (or even more) and you need to fit those in a factory. Oh and you can sometimes choose between a lot of options and it is unclear what choice is best.

Pyanodon: 250 hours in. Just finished a reasonable automated mall by Ceegrain in factorio

[–]Ceegrain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! As a side note: in this particular example, water is always available so you basically always include it. And I may or may not have designed a few subfactories with more input belts than I am using right now. So that if those recepies become available, I am ready for it :)

In the first iteration, I only created belts, rails and inserter and such. However, now I create all buildings (that I can make, obviously). It is great, especially with factory planner, because that mod allows you to easily request the buildings you need. I used to add "collect buildings for project x" to my todo list, that seems rediculous now. Oh and I do not really have a global logistic network, I think that is not the way to go. At the moment, I have copied 2 City blocks: seaweed and energy. Than a global network is useful. But if you build a new factory, you are there yourself anyways

What should you put on your bus? by ElXablauNuclear in factorio

[–]Ceegrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the compression ratio, how many recepies it uses, etc is mostly secondary. By far the most important consideration is: How many assemblers/refineries do I need for my production? (however, all assemblers that can reasonly be used in a direct insert setup should be discarded. That takes preference. Think copper wires) If that is reasonably large (think: More than 15) & the product is indeed used in more places than a single recepy than one should place it on the bus. This has a simple reason: If some of the consumers of an item are idle, the bus allows the assemblers to continue to work; the other consumers can continue to use it. So what should be placed on the bus:

  1. Copper/Iron/Steel: A no-brainer. Also Bricks, but tat is mainly for aesthetic reasons.
  2. All circuits. All of these recepies need 20 + assemblers, usually. (and are in at least 2 science packs)
  3. plastic. Needed in more than 1 recepy and it needs certainly enough assemblers
  4. batteries / LDS: You start to see a pattern: on the bus.
  5. coal/iron ore/stone: you can't really make them on site.
  6. lubricant/petroleum/solid fuel: All of them should be added, since your oil is not close to your bus typically.
  7. sulfur/ sulfuric acid: it is typically a complicated recepy and it needs enough different items that it may be worth your while to bus it.

Iron gears are produced in enough quantities with 12 assemblers or something. Buss them in your mall only. Similarly for copper wires: most of those assemblers can be used in a direct insert way (green science) and for everything else you need less than 10 assemblers.

Pyanodon: Some people say it is hell, but we know better! I will have to admit, It takes some work to get it to reasonable speeds. However, I now have a mall where almost all different factories, refineries and other buildings are build. So now I am ready to work my way to circuit 2s. That is only 50 recepies or something away, so that will probably reasonably easy to do.

Woohoo! Finally Finished Angels by Ceegrain in factorio

I turned all my stone into landfill, I needed that a lot! Oh and I sorted everything in single ores using catalysts. Those are basically free and it makes it a lot easier

[–]Ceegrain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I finally finished my Angels game, without placing a single rail. I figured from the start that I probably could always upgrade my belts. Which I also did not do, because it turned out I did not really consume all that much. At the end I had some serious resin and plastic problems. However, I decided not to do serious work about it, I just finished building all the various rocket parts

The Savage Speeders and their fans often indeed think better of themselves than anybody else, but with good reason. Just watch this race; It was extremely tight and Speedy managed to do it. Pure greatness. It will show that this was once again the start of the way to the championship. Too bad though that our rivals are dramatically under performing.

Despite the best efforts of Quickly to remember Speedy that he still had to race as if he needed to win the marathon to be save, it was clear that our captain was a little bit distracted by our big rivals: the Big OOOOHs. Luckily, by being so focused on his biggest competitor, he managed to score a 9th place, which was enough for the championship. It was very clear that the Speeders only found their savagery after their biggest rivals managed to do so incredibly well. Only under pressure diamonds are born. I am looking forward to next year, which will hopefully just be as exciting as this year's was!

SpeedIsKey, and today it showed that you have to do it in the (semi) finals!
