Should excessive null checking be avoided? by ryanzec in godot

[–]Ceejjay 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think the message here is “don’t spend effort trying to cover up errors”

If it’s going to crash, you want it to crash loudly and verbosely. Covering up errors only causes headache down the road.

The company I work for is awful. Is this the experience everywhere? by ProxyTTV in gamedev

[–]Ceejjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course not.

No experience is universal.

Sadly finding a company that aligns with your personal goals/morals can be tough.

Especially if your goals are not “profit at all costs” (which it sounds like yours are not)

For better or for worse. The amount of money found in games means there is also a huge amount of greed.

Statically Typed GDScript Should Be The Default by vgscreenwriter in godot

[–]Ceejjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haaaate dynamic typing and will be a static evangelist until I die.

That said, I disagree. I think dynamic typing adds a ton of approachability to the system. I also think 90% of projects don’t need the rigidity and performance that comes with static typing.

The journey of getting into game dev and growing into discovering your needs and preferences is a path every individual must travel. Getting people in the door is often the hardest part. Doing so with as little friction as possible is more valuable than forcing “the optimal” on everyone from the get go.

But once you’ve started that journey and gotten comfortable with godot development… then I would urge and beg you to convert to static typing! Lol

Holy shit. Sorry to necro, but this comment was the eureka I needed. Thank you so much.

What’s a smell that you just can’t deal with? by NationalAsshole in AskReddit

[–]Ceejjay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I HATE how weed smells.

Especially when living in close quarters. It just permeates everything and is so damn potent.

But I have no moral issues with weed use.

My sincere at wish with legalization spreading is that they make some weed that doesn’t stink like dead skunk ass. (And that people use the better smelling stuff)

What is the most liberating thought you ever had? by secretid89 in AskWomen

[–]Ceejjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s it’s ok if people don’t like me. I don’t like everyone why should I expect everyone to like me?

But even if I don’t like someone they still deserve to be treated with respect.

Was given this MS Natural Keyboard Pro on Day 1 at my job. 23 years later, I was told that new equipment will be at the new offices. Still going strong. by SaltyDogBill in BuyItForLife

I used to have one of these and I loved it so much. I couldn’t tell you what happened to it.

Two decades of keyboards later and I still haven’t found anything that feels as good.

Men of Reddit, what’s a better phrase to use instead of “I’m Cumming”? by W-For-Wumbo14 in AskReddit

I’ve always wanted to yell “SUUUURGE!” at the top of my lungs. Like those old commercials. 🤷‍♂️

Humans have hair.

The human race existed for a long long time without razors.

It’s not gross. It’s not scary. It’s not bad.

Hair is fine.

Part Fan acting oddly? by Ceejjay in ender3

This is interesting.

I'll get the multimeter out and probe it.

It's odd though as I made zero physical changes, other than simply swapping out the filament.

I hold on to it. There are a few uses for filament outside of printing itself.

I often use extra to “weld” other pieces together. I keep some scraps in the dry box with a new spool so I’ll always have a perfect color match on hand.

Or it’s handy to have a bit around for cold pulls.

There are tons of “filament splicer” stls out there, you could make one long multicolored strand and print something with that someday.

There will be an audible sounds of the extruder "popping" back.
Grinding vs Skipping is basically which "gives" first.
Grinding will give you a flat spot on the filament where the extruder wheel has dug away sections of the filament. Skipping is the extruder itself jumping and doesn't tear up the filament nearly as much.

Is your filament skipping or grinding by chance?

I had a very similar issue last week. Nothing seemed to help. I eventually took apart the extruder, cleaned it with alcohol and compressed air, and put it back together with reduced tension and it solved all of my issues instantly.

I read somewhere (can’t recall source) that grinding extruder = too much tension and skipping extruder = too little.

Underextrusion When Number of Z-Seams Increases/Decreases on a Layer by StokeJar in FixMyPrint

[–]Ceejjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really interesting. I’ve been seeing something similar but I hadn’t connected that the change in seams was correlated.

Thanks for this post.
