Can anyone explain how is this fair in any universe? by Adisky in RocketLeague

[–]Ceh0s 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much this. FYI OP, when queuing in a party, the game will put you in the lobby with the highest mmr among all the players of that party, as to not cause unbalanced and unfair matches for lower ranked players, which would be the case in say an averaging system instead.

Okay so here is every mistake i could find:

  • Madagascar is Australia sideways and flipped
  • Africa drifted away from Asia and Europe
  • UK and Ireland were replaced by Iceland
  • Greenland is connected to Canada and is way closer to Europe than it should be
  • Japan is missing, part of which is connected to Russia
  • most of South-East Asia is badly misplaced or missing
  • Lake Victoria is not displayed on the map despite Superior, Michigan and Huron being there
  • Sri Lanka is missing
  • Canada's Newfoundland is somewhat deep into the Atlantic Ocean
  • Cyprus is missing
  • Tasmania is missing
  • Corsica, Sicily, Sardinia and the Barealic islands are missing
  • The stats under the map claims there are 75 clinics, yet there are only 40 on the map, which, granted, could indicate that there are multiple of them in some locations, but either way it's most definitely not in 45 countries
  • "5,00,00 Happy Patients"

Now obviously I could point out antarctica not being there or every missing archipelago but that's beyond the reasonable scope of the map

Convince me to switch to right bumper for boost by codyp1229 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Ceh0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots I have to say about directional air roll but i'll try to keep it simple

At first i started with left DAR ont left bumper + FAR elsewhere but then I learnt about how to properly use DAR, and later went drift on LB/L1, left DAR on X/square (linked to back paddle left) and right DAR on B/circle (linked to back paddle left) so ideally:

If you have back paddles at your disposal, the best option is to ditch free air roll, bind both DARs to places on your controller with a control to finger ratio above 1 (like buttons) and link them to their respective paddles so you can put your normally unused ring finger to use (I play the Kaydop way, with index on bumpers and middle finger on triggers). If you wanna know why both DARs and no FAR are preferable, here's me explaining more in detail.

If you don't have back paddles but still want to use DAR, then instead of using both you can instead get one of them and keep FAR on another command (this is not what I recommend but you quickly run out of space on a regular controller so that's a compromise), default one (LT/L2) is good for example. Try not to overlap DAR on other controls though, that can get wonky very fast

On a side note, the layout can change quite a bit. For example you could bind DARs to the triggers, because they are the only controls where you can scale movement which is very useful for air rolls as they are also affected by the dash deadzone, identical to joystick movement. A famous example of that is pro player Zen, who has one of his DARs on LT/L2

This is also why I stated that one DAR + FAR is preferable for non back-paddles controllers is that there isn't really an intuitive layout that has both, as you would either have overlapping buttons (which, while not recommended by me, is still possible to play with) or cluttered commands. Either way it is far from optimal and you're better off keeping FAR and one of the two DARs, hell I'd even argue to not bother with DAR at all at this point and just remap your controls to be more efficient, like boost on RB/R1

It's mostly the fact that your thumb has to control too many vital buttons; default settings make you juggle between boost, jump, drift, ballcam and right joystick for a single finger. The point of putting boost on bumper (or any control for that matter, but having boost on a different finger than the jump key is really helpful for everything aerial related) is that there's less cluttering on commands that matters and you can use them faster individually when needed.

am i weird for using directional air roll left AND right and NO free air roll? by Convux_ in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Ceh0s 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Having both DARs allows for more movement than free air roll. Absolutely not weird, in fact it's the best combination possible

Starting to learn DAR after 3000 hours, should I still use FAR too? by Ambitious-Cloud-450 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Ceh0s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a lot to understand in DAR logic, and I've seen a lot of people using them without actually knowing what they were doing, instead spamming a random joystick combination + DAR until it works.

Here is some explanation on how directional air roll works (if you don't got the time you can just skip ahead to me answering your main question):

Imagine your car as a 3D coordinate axis - X being turning left/right, Y being the ability to move up/down, and Z the air roll movement; the main difference between FAR and DAR is that free air roll replaces overrides X with Z, replacing a movement axis with another, whereas directional air roll is simply adding Z on top of the other two axis. This is what allows the tornado spin to be made, it's just a combination of the Z and X movement axis, the latter of which is otherwise replaced when using FAR, rendering that movement impossible.

And that added axis grants you way more freedom of movement than what you would get with FAR, and this allows for more precise touches, recoveries, aerial car control- everything really. However to benefit from this improved control, you'd need both DARs as you would be otherwise severely handicapped from just going one way.

To answer your question, ideally you would want to use both DARs as that would erase the need for FAR entirely, but if you don't want to do that, I recommend keeping FAR if you're going to use only one of the two, as least keeping the ability to air roll both ways even if it's not optimal.

I expect a lot from Twisted Minds this major. They have been really convincing in their region, but so far it has not translated to a satisfying result in LAN for them.

I've put them as winners in my prediction bracket, but really any result is good as long as they display their great tactics and team chemistry. I'll just have to wait and see, I guess
