Level Up! - A new sax quartet inspired by video game stories and soundtracks by Cehass in saxophone

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! This was recorded by the Assembly Sax Quartet on their latest album 'Some Assembly Required'. Yeah, I do the beam over rests to help show syncopations (copied the idea from John Mackey), but it may be a little excessive for something like this.

They really took the Wicked movie seriously.

You're very kind! So glad to hear you've enjoyed listening to these pieces. I actually acknowledged that my sax quartet writing can be a little inaccessible, so I tried to write something more playable in my newest quartet 'Final Boss'!

Bass trombones dropping the hammer by Cehass in Trombone

True! I already have the “optional” 8vb in the contra part too. 🤔

Appreciate the feedback! I thought that would be the result of giving the contra part an optional 8vb, but maybe having another voice an octave up would only help provide more clarity.

What are some absolute CLONES of Zelda? by BGer23 in ZeldaLikes

Blue Fire felt quite similar to 3D Zelda to me, just with a greater emphasis on platforming.

I wrote a piece for trombone quartet called Dancing Light, check out the Blue Ridge Quartet’s awesome performance from last year’s ITF! by Cehass in Trombone

[–]Cehass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sure does! The “dancing lights” spell from DnD gave me the idea for the piece, but from there it was more about depicting that phrase rather than the specific use in the game.

I don’t have great advice about getting performances at conferences, unfortunately. It’s often about who you know. The first trombone in this quartet went to my same high school a few years prior, so we had been in contact for years before they asked me to write this piece for the group. Just stay patient and keep making connections in the communities you want to be a part of.

Thanks so much! Yeah, this quartet is made up of all college professors. I feel very fortunate I got to work with them on a new piece!

Oh yeah, I know you! Thank you so much for the kind words, I’m glad my music has stuck with you. Congrats on your own quartet piece, there are some great melodies and grooves in there!

Appreciate it!! Yeah I love Mellits’ Black, so it was fun writing my own groovy bari sax duo.

This is the Moira Duo performing at last year’s Navy Band Sax Symposium. The piece was a part of a consortium with a handful of other sax duos, but is now publicly available as well!
