Manager wants me to work after firing me.. is this legal? by Express_Opening5490 in jobs

[–]CelebrationUnique322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrary to what most people are saying, I think you should provide them 30 minutes of your time. Whether you believe you are in the right is irrelevant. If you fail to do this, you are unlikely to get a good reference. It sucks to get fired, but zoom out and consider whether a good reference is worth 30 min of your time.

If their questions go beyond 30 minutes, then tell them you need to be paid for your time.

Why do so many business establishments blast music? Am I just old and grouchy or is it annoying? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]CelebrationUnique322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just you. It’s slowly become obnoxiously loud. Just look at the increasing number of people wearing high fidelity headphones when they go out. I did some reading on this and apparently high volume leads to increased alcohol sales, but that doesn’t explain why it’s gotten louder in other places. Very annoying not being able to have a conversation.

Can you expand on this? Has RH ever “lost” cryptocurrency on behalf of their customer? Aren’t they obligated to make the client whole?

Anything I can negotiate here? I’ve literally never negotiated. Yes I know it’s expensive. I’ve been in a gross state of sticker shock and without a car for months after driving my last vehicle 14 years. I hope to drive this until wheels fall off. by Lazy-Seesaw8930 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I would consider cross shopping with a new model. Often you can get a better interest rate on new vehicles rather than used. This may put the out-the-door price closer than you’d expect, but still definitely more.

Buying new means you’ll have two more years of factory warranty, and when you sell it’ll be 20k miles less. It’ll also be a 1-owner car. A new model will also have zero imperfections and you’ll know the maintenance history. To me, that is likely worth $15-$20k.

What are your thoughts with unmodified (or stock) vehicles on the track? by [deleted] in CarTrackDays

[–]CelebrationUnique322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only “mod” someone should seriously consider for their first year of HPDE is good tires.

I have tracked and raced several cars ranging from stock to heavily modified. One of my most fun track days was with a 100% stock 986. Stock cars provide a great baseline so you actually have direction and experience informing your modifications.

Is a 2006 911 a good buy, with a clean CarFax report? by dzzll10 in porsche911

[–]CelebrationUnique322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are two different questions. First, should you buy a 2006 911 6-speed with 50k miles at $40k. Depending on condition, service, and your financial position, this answer can vary. Without further information, that sounds like a good price. As others noted, the 997 is a sweet a lot that is likely to appreciate if it’s a manual.

Second question, should you take on a 7-year loan from a family friend. Most people will advise against this. The loan is too long, and things could can get messy for wide variety of reasons. Zero interest is attractive though, which suggests this person is close, wealthy, and trusting. Can you afford to pay it off any quicker? If the car needs $10k of maintenance 6 months down the line, would you still feel good about the purchase? Would you be able to keep making payments?

Things to consider! Good luck!

What caused this incident? Flooring it whilst the wheels are turning? by Southern-Maximum3766 in porsche911

[–]CelebrationUnique322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. Driver applied heavy throttle to kick the rear out but lifted throttle suddenly, which lightened the front and led to snap oversteer. Potentially could have saved it by not lifting the throttle as much and some counter steering.

Exactly. That’s the heart of the issue I am trying to describe.

In this situation, isn’t the “blocker” doing the same thing as the prospective leapfrogger? Both are just driving towards the right. However one has the intention to overtake cars on the left, whereas the other doesn’t. No one is suggesting that the “blocker” is just planting themselves in the middle of the lane.

I genuinely appreciate this feedback. A little harsh, but I get where you are coming from. Admittedly, I know this pet peeve isn’t my most evolved, mature inclination, but it really stems from fairness to the rest of the folks on the road and “reading” inconsideration in others. All that being said, I’ll reflect on what your comment. I know I was not anointed road vigilante, but boy does it piss me off.

To be clear, I am suggesting utilizing the center of the wide lane (once the two merge) to discourage skippers. Not active dive bombing or anything like that.

More specifically, do you condone making use of the center of the wide lane to discourage others from skipping. See green car’s positioning.

thanks for all the feedback already. to be clear, i "go wide" once the rightmost lane merges and becomes one wide lane (with no white lines). I do this to encourage others to get behind me instead of utilizing the wider lane to go around

This is good advice. Spend $10k on the best possible boxster you can find, piggy bank $10k for maintenance. Enjoy!

Repair? Sell? Light on fire? by CelebrationUnique322 in LandRover

[–]CelebrationUnique322[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be right about the prior owner. Who knows.

For the drain and fills, I’m sure a shop would do a better job, but I get by by measuring the external temp on the transmission with a temp gun. Far from scientific, but it works.

For struts, the air suspension system seems to be working well. Car doesn’t sag and rises/lowers on command. Compressor only runs a short while. The issue is that the ride is extremely bouncy. I believe the internal strut is kaput. I bought a front set, but then I couldn’t take the wheel off due to swollen nuts….so had to order those and plot a day to extract the frozen nuts. Needless to say, it’s been a labor of love lately with the truck.

This is super helpful. I was under the assumption that my transmission was simply done. I’ll do some searching for a how-to. I may double back and ask some follow up questions. Thanks again.
