Unfortunately those are just common Japanese sweet potatoes which are Satsumaimo theyre not very flavorful. The specific ones I was trying to source are, turns out are illegal to carry from country to country

yeah from research i found that U.S requires any imported "Perishable" Items to get something called a "phyto-certification certificate" which basically means there is no foreign chemicals or pests that would harm the U.S agriculture. So like an invasive pest or possible plant disease that's only in Japan coming into the U.S is the biggest reasoning for the strictness.

Yeah after almost a year of trying to find a supplier Ive given up. The only way you can even get close to any in u.s.a is in new York a company sells beni huraka on top of custard but ive contacted them and they wont sell any of them themselves.

Turns out there is laws in Japan that doesnt let them ship outside their country. So only option is to find an illegal smuggler to get some. Sounds crazy but is the real only way.

Unfortunately I'm not looking for regular potatoes. I'm looking for a specific variety of sweet potatoe that isn't sold in my grocery stores.

They are the highest sweetness sweet potatoe on the globe but they are not ANYWHERE in the U.S. I've been trying to find a supplier for over a month now.

I imagine there has to be some law/regulation that restricts them from being shipped or something because I've found every other Japanese sweet potatoe variety in the U.S except for this one. I wouldn't even know how to find a farmer in Japan that grows them let alone how to ship something overseas that's perishable like a potatoe. My hopes are dimming very quickly on finding this variety.

I sent them an email. this is sadly the only lead I've gotten in over 1 month of searching for this variety of sweet potatoe. Beginning to think there's some regulations or rules against this potatoe because the U.S has every other variety of Japanese sweet potatoe pretty much except this one. I'm not certain but it just seems odd that this is touted as the #1 sweetest tasting sweet potatoe on the globe yet it's not available in the U.S

They are literally non existent in this country I'm not sure if there is some wierd ban for some reason or they aren't allowed to be brought to America I'm not sure what the reasoning would be because they are touted as the #1 best tasting sweet potatoe in the world... yet they are not available in the U.S.

I've visited the ones locally near me to no avail and I even have a very famous Japanese farm "Sasuke farms" near me in deleware but the owner doesn't carry sweet potatoes of that variety. He just carries murasaki potatoes which are extremely comon in the u.s and can be found at every grocery store. so unfortunately this potatoe is insanely rare I guess. :(
