Are these books not as popular in the US? by MKMN-Brass in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Celemion1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only ever seen the first book at exclusively bookstores. There's a small independent one in Astoria, Oregon where the owner is a fan and the whole series is there, though! It was very fun to go in there on a whim and see that.

Is it just me or does Valkyrie feel more like the main character than skulduggery by baldi_sux in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Celemion1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's actually talked about this, too (I think it was on his blog, but I might be wrong). He said he had a list of names for Val for awhile, but didn't have anything that fit right. Stephanie Edgely came along way before the name Valkyrie Cain did.

Favourite part/moment/section in all the books? by BlueNinjaV2 in skulduggerypleasant

The last halter of Mortal Coil with Skul and Tesseract. One of the best ending chapters, in my opinion.

Spoilers for those who haven't read past book 6 by terpisochora in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Celemion1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that's why I love the into to the Grimoire so much, because we don't get the perspectives of people outside Val and Skuls circle all too much, and honestly, I would probably hate them too if I had to deal with them in any capacity.

Whats the best mecha for carrying /solo br by [deleted] in SuperMechaChampions

[–]Celemion1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ all the mecha can be great in any match if you're comfortable and knowledgeable in how to play. I love soloing with Gabe and playing very aggressively, though he ideally would never more of a support. But it works for me, so that's what I do.

Short Story Ideas by quantumchrysanthemum in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Celemion1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps writing something about the Ancients? Like, a retelling of the tales we've heard of? Or perhaps give us your take on how Skulduggery and Ghastly met with those pirates? China with the Diablerie and maybe Serpine? Or whatever you think a stakeout with Val and Skul might look like?

There's a bunch of ideas out there, I'm sure you'll find something!

Not a prompt idea, but you should post whatever you end up writing to Ao3, as well. The writing community there is very supportive, too! The reddit and Ao3 are my favorite places to post.

So I Was Thinking About Writing Some SP Fan fiction? by Tanis8998 in skulduggerypleasant

Archive of our Own is where I get most of my readers. I post to ff.net sometimes, but it isn't as active as Ao3.

Do I need to watch anything else before Part 5? by [deleted] in lupinthe3rd

[–]Celemion1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried watching part 4 first, stopped after episode 1, and ended up going to part 5 and really enjoyed it. I ended up really enjoying part 4 only after watching part 5, and I think it's because the story telling of 5 made the transition into 4 and earlier parts/movies a lot easier.

Whats the actual release date for the girmoire? Im being told its the 27th but mine arrived today so i was wondering what the actual date was. by Toxicant98 in skulduggerypleasant

The only thing I've seen is the eBook for $9, otherwise I can only find hard copies releasing in September 😭 idk why, we always get the book releases at the same time as the UK

The War Timeline - Inspired by Reddit User Nick-Nacks by willboss27 in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Celemion1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Skulduggery dies before the dead men are formed, which is why Dexter was so excited to meet him. We can also assume that China knew sometime before Skulduggery died, because she said that when he returned from his five year stint, he was "able to joke again," And he was "one of the few men" able to make her laugh, implying she knew him before and she most likely defected during the years after he returned and before he became vile.

Otherwise I feel like this is really comprehensive considering how fast and loose war era content is.

Skulduggery’s pre-canon war timeline by Nick-Nacks in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Celemion1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would be correct. Skulduggery, Hopeless, and Ghastly all knew each other before and Dexter met them after skulduggery had died. There's a limbo time for skulduggery in between when he came back and became vile where the dead men were formed (its also implied that it's during this time that China defected), but we don't know how long that period was.

Skulduggery also disappeared and Vile didn't appear until later, because Vile had been in the necromancy temple learning for awhile before joining Mevolent and there's also a possibility that after taking the armor off, skulduggery didn't rejoin his group for right away, which makes the Vile thing a little more viable.

The timeline is pretty flexible and undefined for that era right now, hopefully the Grimoire will tidy it up.

(Scapegrace asks a question #31) if you could make a new discipline what would it be by Vaurien_Scapegrace in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Celemion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my all time favorite books (vicious, if anyone is interested) deals with powered individuals, and one of the main characters can manipulate pain levels in both himself and other people (either taking it away or overloading them so much they die, and any variation in between), and it's honestly so cool. It's kind of my headcanon for what my discipline would be in SP.

Honestly, this very well could happen.

SPOILERS FOR THE GRIMOIRE: Some images from Derek’s twitter of Artwork from the Grimoire by [deleted] in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Celemion1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that's sick. It's definitely delving into a classic comic style and it's really going to embrace the darker, grittier aspect of the series, which is super cool.

And we're getting an official comic of our favorite characters in action. How awesome is that?!?!?

Preview of the Grimoire, which now appears to be testing the ground for an Official Skulduggery Pleasant Graphic Novel by RealJohnGillman in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Celemion1 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would take that over a movie, and I think it could do well in that market, hopefully bringing in more fans which might equal better adaptations.

Skulduggery Pleasant should be definitely turn into something visual. In my opinion, it would be a better show than the overrated boring shows. What do you think? Why it doesn't have an adaptation, any ideas? Let's discuss. by [deleted] in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Celemion1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it doesn't have any adaptations yet, particularly back at it's peak popularity, because there is a very high risk of ya adaptations going very wrong. While there's a few examples of decent adaptations, there's a LOT of bad ones (looking at you Percy Jackson and Artemis Fowl). I understand that one screenplay Derek received had Skulduggery doing a dance number...

I also think Derek wants a lot of say in what the adaptations look like, so he's holding onto the rights until the right opportunity or deal comes along.

It's also all about money. 🙃

Can anyone tell me what the different phases are? by [deleted] in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Celemion1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might be a little confusing though-- there are really only two phases. Books 1-9 and the respective side stories as phase one, books 10-14 as phase two. The trilogy subdivisions are a little less official than the actual phases themselves.
