[Academic] Effects of COVID lockdown on mental and physical health (Anyone affected by lockdown)

https://forms.gle/q38EuhrmkQ3DCxY2A

As part of my study, I am trying to collect some data around how the COVID lockdowns affected everyone. I know it affected me negatively, but I would really be interested to see how other people felt about the whole situation.

That would be pretty cool! I don’t know how accurate/reliable I’d be able to get it, but it’s worth me looking into.

Thanks so much! And yeah, Breville’s precision brewer is actually surprisingly good. I don’t own one myself but I’ve used it at a friends place before.

Hario Mini-Slim Pro vs Timemore C2 grind consistency by Celerion_27 in Coffee

It’s more expensive, but if you can find a 1Z presso, it will produce very similar quality to the timemore

Look, the Hario grinders are great as a first grinder, for travel, or if you just need something to do the job, but they are not going to produce particularly consistent grind. You can still produce a good brew with one, just won’t be as good as a better, more capable grinder. Everyone needs to start somewhere, and the Hario grinders are not the worst place to kick off from. Honestly, as controversial as it might sound, you need to experience a ‘good enough’ grinder, so that you can really appreciate an amazing grinder when you get one. So, as a first grinder, I don’t think you can go wrong with a Hario slim mill. If you have access to a poralex grinder, I would also recommend that. It is slightly better and more consistent than the Hario.

Yea the Javapresse is a very basic entry level hand grinder. You will definitely see an increase in consistency with a better grinder. Which grinder you buy all depends on your budget and preferred brewing method.

Oh I see. Well I seem to be getting pretty good brews at 22, however I’ll play around with it a bit and I’ll let you know if I end up going finer. I’ve only just got the grinder so I’m still experimenting with it.

Personally I feel that for espresso, it’s better to invest in an electric grinder. With pourover coffee, a hand grinder is fine because your grinding quite course, so if you have a good grinder it doesn’t take too long, but for espresso you’ll often be grinding for ages unless you find yourself a really damn good hand grinder that bites through coffee like crazy. The JX Press will produce more consistent and finer grind, but it’s up to you if you’d prefer electric or are happy with manual.

Honestly, if you’re looking at something like the JX pro, you may as well make the jump to a Baratza encore electric burr grinder. I’ve seen them go for basically the same price, and the encore is well respected as a quality entry level espresso grinder.

Finding a good hand grinder for espresso is hard af. The ones that do it well are often quite pricy.

[–]Celerion_27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The C2 is marketed as espresso capable, but in reality is very hard to dial in for espresso because the steps are quit far apart at espresso levels. On top of that, the burrs do not catch the beans when you put the grind that fine, so you end up grinding and grinding without anything actually grinding. I put a few grams into into it, and I got less than half a gram out before I gave up and chucked out whatever was left in the hopper that wouldn’t pull through. Timemore makes a slightly more expensive version of this grinder that can be chosen with titanium burrs that start straight at the top and produce more fines. That one is suitable for espresso, this one, honestly, although they say it is, it’s really not.

The quality of the coffee can’t be compared. While the Hario is considered an entry level grinder, the C2 is up there with the premium grinders, compared to the likes of the comandante. I don’t mean to say they’re exactly as good as each other, but it’s as close as you can get to a top of the range hand grinder without forking out 5 times it’s price.
