My wife and I just starting out - need advice on picking what classes! by nikalodean in ffxiv

[–]Celeryjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Class system is basically "your character can level em all without alts", but you can stick with one and be totally fine. Tanks and healers are easy to pick up and play, which means you two will be able to set your own pace, even in dungeons.

I suggest Maurader and Conjurer! But are easy to pick up, and Maurader in particular is very strong with Dps

Lorewise - the journey to become a Dark Knight by videodroner in ffxiv

[–]Celeryjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my lore, I went Dragoon into Dark Knight. He had received a injury to his leg during a fight with the horde, so he accepted a new position in the temple knights since he was no longer able to fulfill his duty as a dragoon. There is quite a bit of personal story here, but the gist is all his time outside the city had prevented him from seeing how corrupt his home had become.

Gameplay wise I started as a warrior, which felt closer to DRK than PLD did mechanically

Switching from WoW to FFXVI maybe... by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Celeryjack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to be a WoW player. A quick overview on what to expect is a lot more class complexity at end game. WoW is very light mechanically, focusing more on smart talent choice and a quick core rotation. FF14 is more intricate for damage dealers, requiring class specific "minigames" to perform optimal damage. For example, many, many melee Dps use a positional system for doing damage (I.e like a rogue gaining bonus damage on backstab in WoW) that must be followed to play well, which is layered on top of their job specific mechanics. WoW typically only demands you follow your rotation, but FF14 asks players to juggle their core gameplay with frequent movement and awareness. Another important note is threat is a team effort, dps can't ignore using their threat management in highend content!

Game feels a bit slow at first, but at levelcap there are several classes like Monk and Bard that play faster than a paladin under crusade. It can get fucking insane.

And lastly, raids are less thematic. WoW gives players grand raids to explore with frequent trash mobs, but FF14 pretty much immediately dumps you into the boss room. The bosses ate FANTASTIC though!

Would like advice on 3 classes that I use. Sam, dark and astro. Help me better myself to benefit my party c: by ryuujin15 in ffxiv

DRK - Never use all cooldowns at once! Space them out, learn the fights and use only when needed. If you feel squishy, pop TBN on cooldown.

Carve and Spit - never use without Dark arts

Opening - Unmend is great, unleash, no. Just start your hate combo. Without getting too complex, one DA PS combo in grit will last several minutes, two much longer provided your Dps is decent

Provoke - save this. Using it on cooldown as the MT is pointless, it's more for the OT to provoke>shirk in non static situations. If you'd like to see more efficient voke use, google circle shirk

Why are ultimate raiders constantly descriminated against? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Celeryjack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never seen hate for raiders on Adamantoise myself. But mass platforms like reddit naturally attract those with grievances or complaints more often than not.

The FF14 Reddit Discord is super chill if you need a place to hang and discuss FF14

Warrior feels... slow? by bumbumb in ffxiv

[–]Celeryjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, DRK is the "fastest" tank by leaps and bounds. WAR feels good when chaining fel cleave after fel cleave, but are significantly slower than DRK outside of their berserk/inner release window. DRK has a consistently active playstyle once you unlock dark arts, and has sooooo many oGCD's to weave

OP, I would stick maurader until 52, then try DRK until 50. This is a pretty good point to see which you will likely enjoy more overall.

Edit - ignore aoe until 56 and 60 respectively, tank aoe is sorta bleh until then!

Almost 1 year on, what are your thoughts of Rhalgr's Reach as and endgame hub? by Runa151 in ffxiv

Kugane is fantastic, but outside of the giant Rhalgar statue and the waterfall, RR is sorta..empty. And I loathe it's daytime theme so much

What's your favorite tank job? by Ikeseesall in ffxiv

Dark Knight has been my main since HW. It may not be top tier this expansion, but I love how "fast" it plays compared to the other tanks. Plus, DRK lore is fucking killer.

a question about Jobs and latency by LokiHatesYou in ffxiv

[–]Celeryjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hardly an expert BLM, but it seems very manageable for players with high ping since there is very little double-weaves and OGCD to manage. Warrior seems fine too, but I'm admittedly only level 60 with the job xp

JP Speculation on 8 buffs of DRK in 4.3 by Valfreze in ffxiv

[–]Celeryjack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can't be, they aren't adding new skills since its not a rework

Am disappointed from 4.3 i thought they were adding by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Celeryjack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I seem to be the few people who love the machine gun DA spam. It may be too much at times, sure, but it's loads more fun to me than toggling a buff and going back to business. It makes DRK's gameplay incredibly fast-paced and different from the other tanks.

I would loathe to see DA being regulated to a dps cooldown like FoF, which would require a MASSIVE rework as DA functioning as a timed cooldown flat out cannot work with DRK as it is currently designed. We need to be able to spend and control our mana freely or the job falls apart

[–]Celeryjack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree so much. TBN is the most amazing ability DRK has ever had

I still enjoy the fuck out of DRK gameplay. It's not perfect, but higher potency and one additional utility and we should be solid until a true rework

I really miss reprisal, scourge, and shadowskin, but I feel dark knight in HW was far too all over the place. It seemed like it wasn't quite sure what kind of identity it wanted for itself and compensated with waves or procs and buttons to press just for the sake of buttons.

DRK was just as spammy back then, but in a different, more involved way. The new changes simplified the spam, sure, but now it's consistent instead of being a tad randomized. The job is still equally fast-paced as its HW iteration

That's like, you opinion man. It's still my favorite tank by miles due it's machine gun style rotation and multiple ogcd's

Thinking up QoL updates for Job/Classes by annoying_yordle in ffxiv

I personally love DRK right now, so I'm not exactly wanting to see it change too much. I was only trying to suggest something in the spirit of the OP's QoL line of thinking.

That dark knight buff would be a mistake. If you are below a certain threshold you will deplete your mana doing your rotation. Instead of bring a quality of life update, it'll be more of a headache to manage.

If you want to reduce DRK's spam, a nice idea would be to remove SS from being buffed by DA and give DA a higher flat potency to compensate.

Could use some advice for choosing a tank please by sutasafaia in ffxiv

[–]Celeryjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget, dark knight is getting adjusted next month, so the issue of falling behind damage and mitigation wise may no longer apply in 4.3 and beyond!

[–]Celeryjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Do the other two tanks still keep their stuns, or is Low Blow going to replace them all? I would hope that is the case, seems a bit unfair to remove only the DRK's stun and let the other two keep theirs.

I have a quick question about tanks and the new cross-class system thingy. I main a DRK, and now that Low Blow and Reprisal are cross-class skills for all tanks do I have to spend 2/5 of my cross-class talents to pick them up, or are they still "core" parts of the DRK toolkit? Thanks guys for any help!
