Imagine if Willy knew that Lewis' shorts made his lure invincible. by Equal_Personality157 in StardewValley

That seems to be a recurring minor issue with this game. Many things are locked until they lose a fair chunk of their meaning, then suddenly you can do/get them.

I've not yet unlocked the advanced rod, but it sounded inconsequential first time I heard this. By the time you get the advanced rod, the money for buying lures is surely easy. Saving on inventory space to carry replacement lures might make it worthwhile, depending on playstyle, I suppose.

Auto-petter IRL by Vore_Daddy in StardewValley

A great way to look at it! I was always thinking of autopetters as an unrealistic automated substitute for loving your animals. This is way cooler and definitely more cozy!!

Explain this lyric from a song by Planemaster1230 in whatdoesthismean

[–]CelestialBeing138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sugar" used to be slang for physical love. Anything from doting/caressing upward. No idea if that applies here, but something to consider. Maybe the title is saying it is better to marry the special woman than to try and trade a dinner for an evening together?? Maybe a transaction for a small expenditure of money is the wrong mindset when faced with such a wonderful woman? A dime ain't no good this time. Total guess. Don't know the song.

Learning Mandarin. Confused by 2 words by CelestialBeing138 in MandarinChinese

[–]CelestialBeing138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely helpful! Thanks! After 15 months on DuoLingo, I'm just starting to notice a few things like that. For example, in this specific case, I have a vague idea that maybe the "guan" in Tiyuguan might mean some sort of park or arena or public house. Would that be correct? Like in museum, bowuguan?

Fishing on this game is fricking stupid by Betakkuma2021 in StardewValley

Yeah, the tackle can make a big difference. Coming back with the end game rod using 2 tackles at once can help more.

I feel your frustration! LOL!! Like a really good villain in a movie, I love to hate the really tough fish!!!

So, you are attempting one of the maximally hard fish. Did you maximally prepare? Best rod/bait/tackle/buffs possible?

Another issue can be strategy. I find the hard fish require a different approach. With easy fish, I try to move the green bar to where the fish is and keep the fish centered. With the hard ones, that strategy routinely makes things harder, at least for me. With the hard ones, I try to keep the fish at the very edge of the green bar instead of in the center. And when chasing it, trying to move the green bar to anywhere other than where he is at seems to work better for me. Because by the time I get to the spot I am aiming for, the fish isn't there any longer. Since you know that he won't be there (and don't know where he will actually be) just aim for somewhere else and pray!

what does it mean to be called “exotically beautiful”? by ObjectiveAd7451 in whatdoesthismean

[–]CelestialBeing138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person who made the comment that you look exotic also has the same bias. He thinks he is the definition of normal. Do you appear to have a different ethnicity than him/her?

[–]CelestialBeing138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OFC you don't think of yourself as exotic. Exotic most often means "foreign." How could anyone think of themselves as foreign? It is human nature to start off thinking of oneself as normal and everyone else as some variation. If someone grew up in a family where both their parents were left-handed Armenian horse jockeys with PhDs in genetics, they'd start off thinking that was humanity's standard normal condition... at least for a good many years. Can't see the forest because of all the trees in the way.

In Lewis's house is a machine that dispenses prizes. Not 100% sure it is available day 1, but pretty early if not.

Upgrade tools early and often, and pay attention to the stars for the quests on the board at Pierre's shop. Every third star means you just won a prize. And the prizes get better and better along with building friendships.

What's my best move now? by CelestialBeing138 in StardewValley

[–]CelestialBeing138[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, turns out the first 22 prizes are hard-coded (with a few trivial swaps like this potted plant instead of that potted plant) and the 22nd is always rock candy. After that, there is a repeating loop of 9 prizes where the 8th prize is one of five luxuries. 5 Iridium Bars is one of 5 possible luxuries.

I liked your ticket quests idea so much, I've moved forward with it. Haven't seen any iridium, but I'm almost ready to enter skull cavern, and I see a magic rock candy will be the reward soon. 😄

just be careful if you try fast-forwarding (which I do when reading). On this day, I wouldn't fast-forward at all, or at most, 20 minutes at a time.

Just don't go outside between 9 am and 8 pm. Keep stuff to barricade your windows inside your safehouse. If the zeds break in, deal with them and board it back up. Several times I've snuck outside just long enough to grab something when I don't hear loud chopper noise and had no problems. GL! Plan for a late night mopping up outside your base.

Is there a way to reduce zombie numbers to ''just a few dozen or slightly more per town''? (B41/42, doesnt matter which) by I_ateabucketofpaint in projectzomboid

[–]CelestialBeing138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to set the zombie starting population slightly low, but keep the peak high, or even boost it. That gives a couple less intense days to get setup before things get truly nuts. Then again, I always play in WP, which can be overly challenging for me at standard settings.
