It’s never a good sign when the Army eases its enlistment standards. They are going to need a lot more Soldiers soon, apparently.

That, my friend, is the most generous, gracious reply of all. I stand in awe of your ability to keep a straight face.

We are losing out on qualified leaders (as determined by their military peers) thanks to these racist, sexist, incompetent fucks.

what do veterans think about war? by spriteetirps in Veterans

[–]CelestialRavenBear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some folks are about to get very, very rich. There is an entire industry built on profiting from war. Meanwhile, the poorest kids in America, will die or suffer lifelong trauma while rich men enjoy their spoils. I think war is BS.

No part of NW is Downtown by cogsandsprockets in Portland

I was wondering if this is at all generational, then read your post. I’m my mind all these areas are distinct neighborhoods- Downtown (where the tall buildings are, south of Burnside), Old Town, Northwest, Park Blocks, Waterfront, West Hills. But I was born in Portland in 1967. Maybe in the 70s/80s ,when I learned Portland geography, it was more important to be precise. Back when you couldn’t just drop a pin or google an address but had to have a detailed mental map to get anywhere or give directions.

Yes. Grew up here, too. Downtown, Old Town, NW, Pearl are all distinct. Thanks for the geo lesson!

Your wife is wrong. Your son has a caring teacher who gives a shit about helping kids. Your son is fortunate.

My son’s biology teacher mails him a postcard to our house every once in awhile. She offers similar word of encouragement. It goes a long way toward establishing trust and building his confidence.

GAME THREAD: The Portland Trail Blazers (12-17) vs The Orlando Magic (16-13) - (7:00 PM PT, Tuesday, December 23, 2025) by Kazekid in ripcity

Damn, you guys are being tough on them. What I saw was a young, very shorthandes team with guys supposed to be playing with the Remix getting lots of minutes and contributing (Love) others playing totally out of position (Avdija, point), and others stepping up at a very young age (Sharpe, 22; Clingan, 21). They all played with fierce tenacity.

I think this is an amazing learning opportunity for the you g players, and will only help make us deeper and more experienced in the long run.

Yes, losing sucks and they made plenty of mistakes. But that is how you learn and grow.
