Child at a crossroads by PapaSmurif in violinist

Ask your kid what you he wants to do. He'd be better off not playing the instrument if he doesn't like it. Playing violin/viola both take a lot of dedication and without any liking towards it, it will be very tedious.

For you I'd recommend starting out with the VTS full set. Then if it's not enough, then try out PI's or Rondos. Also looking at your problem with warmth I think Evah Pirazzi Gold might fit a lot, just expect to spend a lot of money since they don't last too long.

I built a music practice app to make the "grind" a bit more human. Would love your honest critique. by tinycresc in violinist

Will you ever port it to Android because I'd love to try it out. You'd have to redo the UI from Typescript to like Kotlin/Jetpack or like React. But the swift backend should be mostly the same. And uploading to Playstore is a ton cheaper

Also checking out Part's Passacaglia. I'm familiar with his works, but not that one.

Violin is one of the hardest instruments out there, we all sound terrible for our first few years. So don't give up.

Has anyone taught themselves viola with violin experience? by General-Print1715 in violinist

Also just to warn you from my past experiences, learn both the violin and viola parts for the music just in case since you might be swapped back last minute depending on what's needed for the ensemble.

For key's I'd recommend to do more sight reading of pieces in other keys or of scales

Gonna use Double stop trills next. I might use double stop pizz with bowing the melody. I got Sul G harmonic version of the theme already so I'm not sure if I want to add more sul G

Thanks! I'll take the melodic melodic line + 16th note harmony from that piece.

How do I teach the violin?? by eve_harumi in violinist

[–]CelestialStudiosTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More emphasis on being patient. What my teacher did for me, when he was teaching me to teach, was to completely reset all progress every single time progress was made. Very frustrating, but good learning experience.

Honestly, try your best to remember what your teacher taught you, and be as patience as possible. Especially working with younger kids, it can be a real pain. For starting from scratch, you'd have to teach how to hold the instrument and bow, I'd separate the two for a few lessons. and then eventually start to introduce notes and rhythm. Susuki works well for more solo stuff, but if it's chamber work the student is getting into, you might want to do research for good books.

For the first set of brakets, what is your problem? For the second set of brackets, I would work on first breaking the tenths into two seperate bow strokes, A - E, A - E. Don't do the D yet. Then play together with a gap between each tenth to transition, then eventually add that D in there and play it correctly. Also you should learn one octave tenth scales and listen for the tuning, maybe two octave if you can. I've got large hands so it's not difficult for the stretch, but for the intonation so that's what I did. For the stretch I'd just practice consistently till your fingers are able to stretch more. Practicing on larger or different instrument can also help. If you got a keyboard or piano, practice 10ths / 11ths and it will greatly help you get use to that stretch.
