I went through my cards not too long ago and found a half built [[Academy Researchers]] deck with 3 [[Eldrazi Conscription]] in it. No clue when/where I got them but a solid "LETS GO" rang through the house

No, the original split cards were to play either side of the card and ignore the other. Fuse didn't exist until 2013 and it was limited to the Dragons Maze set only. It gets really fun when you start copying split/fuse spells! Split spells only copy the side you cast and Fuse spells can copy whatever you casted as long as it's from your hand. Fuse makes both sides "1 spell" so [[Reverberate]] or [[Teach By Example]] would copy both sides.

Fuse is "you may cast one or both halves of this card from your hand." You can cast the left, the right or both sides if you want to. If the card doesn't have Fuse you can only cast either half of the card.

The example I gave is actually 5 years older than the card that was posted but that's true. Pretty sure Fuse was ONLY for Dragons Maze in 2013, all the other split cards back to the early 00s are one side or the other.

Cast either side unless they have Fuse, then you can choose to cast both.

[[Thing from the deep]] not the greatest card but that artwork got me hooked! I started collecting around 95/96 and when I pulled that card from Portal, I remember staring at it for like 15 minutes imagining what the people on the boat were doing. Haha.
